psw
For a quick and dirty method for free...download Audacity. This is a great program, simple but useful for all kinds of things (it will even slow tracks down for learning)...but a good basic all round free PC recorder. To plug into a sound card though, you need to run the guitar through some kind of preamp interface into the line in socket (not the mic generally as this may contain a power signal for condenser mics). An audio capture card is ideal but expensive (often comes with lite versions of things like sonar software or even protools)...I have an Edirol UA-25 for instance. However, the sound card will also have A/D converters good enough to start. Instead of a dedicated preamp, most effect boxes or amp line outs will often be enough. Digital effects units and even stomp boxes will also prevent the loading that kills the tone should you try and plug straight into the soundcard input. Anyway...there is some starter tips pete
Muzz
Two main ways, you can use the computer and software to 1)create the guitar tone and 2) record, the stealth plug gives you an interface and the software you need, http://www.ikmultimedia.com/stealthplug/features/ or get the tone generated on an outboard device like the pocket pod that can plug into the USB of your pooter, and use the bundled the software to record, http://www.turramusic.com.au/Pages/Catalog....aspx?CIID=1608 Be warned, it's addictive.
