jeremyp
After finishing my sg, i decided i wanted to build something else; I decided I wanted to build an electric mandolin. I'll be building pretty much everything from scratch. So far I've made a body template and started cutting out the body. It'll be neck through with probably an oak neck. For the body I'm going to do a pine top that will be painted and for the back portion of the body plywood. The plywood i'm just going to stain so that you can see the many layers and i think will look awesome.

jeremyp
lol. anyways as for the neck, will it be better to do the neck(scarf and shape) before or after gluing on the wings?
ihocky2
Before, it give you a lot more room work around. Once the body is on, it's tough getting at some of the areas.

jeremyp
I got some work done on it in the last couple days. I came up with a headstock design, did my first scarf joint in the neck and glued the wings on. I was considering not doing that yet but i think i'll just run the router on a guide to cut the top and just carve the back with a rasp. jeremyp
got some more work done on it, started routing for pups and control cavity, also a little bit of work on the neck which still has a bit to be taken off to get to the right thickness.
