-gjdk-
Supp dudes?! Here's a custom 5 string bass I'm building for someone. Will try to keep this one updated, I can only build on the weekends at the moment due to work commitments but here we go! Specs: Body: Bubinga Top wood: Master grade Curly Maple Neck: Neck-through - Maple\Wenge|Maple|Wenge/Maple Fretboard: Birdseye maple Hardware: Hipshot 34 inch Scale Design: Mock up: (ignore the control layout/bridge type etc). Build: Heres the maple, 3m of it Bubinga body wood rough cut to thickness. One of the wenge laminates, I really like this stuff until it tries to stab or poison me.. Medullary rays =) My dog wondering whats in the parcel, Sorry Archie, its not food its: This! Bit of progress, planed and glued the neck, cut the bubinga wings. Grain! verhoevenc
Dude! You are building my kind of bass! I love the choices! The only bass I've ever built was a maple topped, bubinga body 5-string with a wenge laminate neck-thru! And let me tell you... that thing POPPED. You will love how this is going to sound (*side note to round out the picture, I ended up with MEC active J-style pickups in it with an SD pre-amp). -gjdk-
verhoevenc: Yeah I love the wood choice on this one, thats quite a coincidence though! Never used or heard MEC pickups, but the website has some interesting info. We havnt decided which ones to go for yet so that could be an interesting option! Do you have any other suggestions that would suit this wood combo out of interest? Our Souls inc. Thanks a lot, really glad you like it! I am just waiting for parts to be sent through at the moment so I kind of have to futz about for now! More updates on the weekend however =)
verhoevenc
MEC's are SUPER expensive new from what I saw years ago. They're the pickups that come in Warwicks. You can get them cheap used on bass forums when people swap them out of Warwicks. Chris
Our Souls inc.
don't thank me, you're the one building the great looking 5 string. I have a few of them on the table right now. I'm not even a 5 string guy, but once I jumped in, i just jumped right on in. luckily for me its a hobby so no one is waiting on them.
