jeremyp
Building myself a 5 string bass (no intention to sell). Design isn't my own but that goes without saying. Body is hollowed out pine with a 1/4" oak top. Neck is from a lyon 5 string bass as well as the electronics hardware and bridge. not sure on color to paint/stain. Started it last thursday and trying to finish by this coming thursday. pics!
wisdom727
Looking good so far. You've got a nice edge bevel on the back and white binding on the front. Depending on what finishing gear and experience you have, I'd suggest a gloss black front with either white or pearloid pickguard in the traditional 400x style. jeremyp
Got the pickup cavities routed. I cut em big so if i want to replace the single coils later i can. not shown is the pickguard template that i finished up for it. Tomorrow i'm going to try get it ready for painting, and make a bridge pickup cover out. I decided on a transparent blue top with a stained brown back and a white pick guard. I'd go with a black top but i have black hardware and want some sort of contrast haha.
Our Souls inc.
I really like it. I'm doing up a pine guitar right now and some spruce ones. never tried a pine bass, but i bet it'll sound sweet .
jeremyp
Its light too which is nice. I was gigging with a jazz bass and that was killing my back after hours of practice. It also seems well balanced so thats good too. Anyone got any cool jazz bass wiring mods i can try out?
Our Souls inc.
not a wiring mod, but the "passive/active" module from carvin is amazing. pickup panning and 3 bands of cut/boost. makes for some pretty versatile tonal options. jeremyp
Can you find any videos of it in use? also what benefits do i get with active?
Our Souls inc.
I'd have to make one... I put one in this: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=44630&view=findpost&p=484879 the benefits of the active part is boost. you can "add" in mid, bass and treble frequencies right on board. Easy to dial the mids out and get a great acoustic tone real quick. They are not cheap though. http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/single.php?product=501B&cid=
