spindlebox
Is there anyone here doing it? If so, what have your results been? I'm just curious. Thank you!
henrim
On this one I used shellack on the top and headstock veneer. I filled the grain with shellack and did a French polish but matted the surface in the end. If I wanted It could be polished to gloss at any time. I prefer it matte though. Finish is not as hard as plastic clear coat but it has hold well in daily use for about year now. You just have to be careful not pour anything containing alcohol on it. Shellack is fairly forgiving though and it can be spot repaired with great results. Although the procedure can be somewhat tricky. Meaning that it can get messy if you are not familiar with the process. It’s easy to cause more harm, but with some practice that can be fixed too If compared to modern clear coats the process is time consuming and labor intensive. But it’s pretty easy to get hang of it. And finished surface is warm and has depth to it. Vulnerability is the main reason I may not use shellack to other tops.
spindlebox
Very nice my friend. I think I like the more natural feel to it, and for people that like relic'd guitars, hell, this could be a good way HAHA.
