ibreakemineedtobuildem
I have some cherry about 1 1/2 and some 1/4 inch Walnut .I wanted to sandwich the front and back with walnut and veneer the top.Is that wood combination a good one or are there forseen problems? For a guitar not a bass that is. Drak
If you sandwich front and back, you're looking at 2" total depth, and using Walnut and Cherry, both pretty heavy woods, it'll be a friggin' boat anchor weightwise. Besides that point, it should sound fine. Maybe a little top-endy, but nothing extreme.
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Cherry is actually quite light in my experience.
Drak
Guess we got ours from 2 different trees eh?
skibum5545
erm... why is this thread entitled cherry mahogany? Are you planning to veneer the top WITH the walnut, or OVER the walnut? If the latter, you could cut off some thickness (and thus weight) by just not having the top piece of walnut. A matter of taste, I suppose. Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Well, I have quilted and flamed cherru, and both are light. But I also deal with purpleheart, so everything seems light.
