cad blueprints, advanced supporter?

Recommended Posts

Well, today i found out that i can use the cad-operated milling machine at my school to build a guitar. Because the milling and all has to be done before the end of school, i need to get some pre-drawn cad blueprints. I have seen the ones on guitarbuild, and will probably get one from there, but i know about being able to access blueprints as an advanced supporter if i donate 10 dollars. I will do it eventually, but as of this moment most of my money is going toward wood for this. Can anyone tell me some of the body shapes that aren't on guitarbuild so i can determine if it's worth the money now? I will donate eventually, but i'm a little strapped now, so if you guys could tell me a few of the bodies that i can't get anywhere else, it would be great. Also, where could i get a cad blueprint of a neck? I'm talking about one with the radius of both the front and back of the neck. thanks, you guys have been an invaluable resource. Neal

also,

as far as i know, you cant just output a .cad file to a CNC machine. they require G-Code to read it properly.

also, most of the .cad guitar blueprints your going to get are just basic outlines and dimensions, nothing you couldnt trace and cut yourself on a bandsaw.

where the cnc shines is the ability to do stuff like a curved top on a les paul. instead of the need to drill many holes and bring it down in spots manually.

i may be wrong, but your going to have a little bit of work on your hands EVEN if you do decide to go the cnc route.

it would be kind of pointless i would think, to just cut the outline on a cnc, unless you cut the outline, neck pocket, and controls all at the same time

:D

jmho.
