i was in a pawn shop just this weekend, seein if there was any steal of a deal fix-r-up ers, and this old strat copy kind of caught my eye, it was, what looked like all ash just stained a honey colour, the grain didnt "pop" and with the gold hardware it really made it just, butt ugly.

Beside it, was an even older, more beat up strat copy, that was painted up kind of decently, a deep deep red with black pickgaurd and white pickups, someone had definetly customized it because there was a hum in the neck and a single in bridge and middle, ask me why, i dont know,

So, for me, I will grab a painted guitar over any stained or bursted guitar any day of the week

When you said rack, i thought a rack was made of a pre amp, a head, cab, and your effects, i didnt realize it wasnt that.

I think for the time being, i will just modify my guitar, because i am not quite sure what i want, a line 6 head with a 2x12 cab under neath would be cool to have, but just a regular 50 watt marshall combo amp would all i really need,

So, its a toss up, something i want and would be cool to have, opposed to the more practicle and logical thing, decisions decisons... lol

Well, as much as that would be sweet, but unfourtently, i wont be doing too much that i will need all that.

I am not even sure what to look for in building a rack, never really seen one in person or looked at them too hard, all my buddies play a marshall head with cab, or a randall head with marshall cab,

I got a Hamer (Slammer series) Explorer, its a semi cheap one, well, kinda sorta not really.

I have done this to it so far (and it helped alot)

Right now, it sounds pretty good, just this saturday, i was playing for a few people, and had a quite a few compliments on the tone (i was playing some classic rock, ACDC and Sabbath)

I want a more distinct metal tone, but i also want something that will still "jump ya back in time" to the days of AC DC and Sabbath, and Ozzy, as I play that alot for people and just for my own personal training.

I am also into alot of Metallica, a little bit of Slayer (i dont quite have the speed as K.K. does, but getting there)

So, in saying that, I need something that will also be flexible enough to get the punch you in the face and spit on you metal tone.

I was going to upgrade in amps, but, being as i live in town now, and not the country, my 80 watt peavey doesnt get turned up past 2 before i have my old fart of a neighbour banging on my bedroom window.

If i could trade my amp in at a local guitar store, for something smaller, what would you folks recomend?

I want to stay away from Active pickups, mainly because there is not alot of room under the pickgaurd or i the control cavity to have the battery.

First and For MOST,

Teach him how to properly tune the guitar, drill it into his head about the tuning process (tones and smie tones, cents, etc...)

Then, start teachin him stuff like Iron Man, Smoke on the Water, you get the idea.

I agree on getting him to play a simple rythm and you solo/improv over it, i used to do that when i jammed with my buddy, i would play a rythm, and he would solo over it, and just watchin him on how he played, and what he did and when he did it, really helped open my eyes how a "good" solo is composed over a rythm,

Its nice to see some people get new toys, i got a used Morley bad horsie II wah pedal, and it got stolen about 3 days later

and, i dont have enough money to budget for a new one, so it was not exactly a happy day for me....

So, right now i am still pimpin a BOSS HM-2 and a Digitech RP 50 (only really use it as a tuner, my chromatic broke)

Post some pics up of that board if you end up doing it up.

Also, just so you know, i got in contact with the seller of the first violin i was looking at, and after inspecting some close up pictures, i have noticed a few flaws, including a cracked chin rest and something funky with the scroll, so I have decided against that one, and have found another one,

For the Violin, case, bow, and Rosin will be pretty close to 75 dollars canadian shipped to my door, not too bad for a beginner if i do say so myself.

Well, i have been learning to play violin a little bit, probaly bout on and off for a month now, but it is very, very hard to learn the violin without my own, and the guy that has one that is teaching me a little bit does not want me borrowing it and he lives about 20 miles away from me, so it makes it hard to learn.

I have found an Ebay Special, 4/4 full size, with bow and case, no rosin, its pretty old, but the guy gaurentees it to be 100% fine and dandy.

So, a few questions first, since i dont really know alot about violins:

The make and model is: Antonius Stradivarius Cremonenfis Faciebat Anno 17

it also says that the bridge is a bit lower so it is more of a fiddle then a violin, is this a good or bad point on this insturment?

Specs of the insturment:

Spruce top

Maple (slight flame) sides and back and neck

purfling (painted)

Like i said, I am just beginning to learn this insturment, it is alot ALOT harder then guitar, so i do not want to spend a fortune, but i also do not want to have a peice of crap as a first violin/fiddle because it will not only be difficult and frustrating to learn on a peice of crap, it will also not be enjoyable and probaly sound bad.

So, maintanece on a violin/fiddle, same as a guitar? i just keep my guitar clean, in tune, always in a case or stand, depending on what i am doing, and i always have a reputable shop set it up after the winter (not that i cant do it myself, i would just rather have a proffesional do it for the 25 bucks)

I would assume that you would have to do something with the bow, i know you have to rosin it up, but i dont know when, all the time, every so often?

is it advisable to have a violin set in a stand, or just in its case all the time?

I have a 59 clean for a neck and a 59 dirty for the bridge in my explorer, i was going to yank out the bridge and update it to a duncan distortion and use the 59 for my bridge pup only guitar project, but if yoour interested in a trade, let me know via pm and we can work out a deal

Hmm, guess i must be a veteran, i remeber that guitar...

You can get as much distortion out of them as any other pedal, personally, i play alot of sabbath,metallica,some slayer and pantera riffs, plus my own which are pretty heavy - galloping, crunch stuff, and it works really well for it, i have actually turned the distortion on it down to about half, scooped out the mids a bit and added tons of low end and now i got awesome tone.

But, to each his own i guess.

Thats it, I have used this setup forever, and i have tinkered around with it, and i got a nice, fat metal crunch.

Mind you, I am also using SD Distortion bridge and SD Jazz neck in my Explorer

Centeinal College Ontario Canada - Motorcycle Mechanic

It is part of my apprenticeship, I already work as a motorcycle mechanic, but i dont have my liscense, so i cant certify bikes or anything that a mechanic really has to do, but i sign and fill out all the work orders i do, which is pretty cool i guess.

This summer though, holy crap, cant wait, BIG party after we are done highschool, and ladies, watch out, i am struttin my stuff in a yellow bannana hammock!

it was good, but like godin, i liked from 43 to 1.03 i think that was the best part, the other stuff, was a little repetitive, but you sir, have some mad chops, and i respect that a great deal.

Dont get me started on green day/good charlotte crap, i hear enough of them as well as simple plan through out the day that i am ready to rape and kill the next person that wants me to go to one of their concerts with them

I was doing work on a lathe at the old woodshop i worked at, i dropped the chisel onto the ground when i put it back on the tool board to change chisels, when i bent down to pick it up, i dont know what happened, but i came back up and the damn bowl was off the lathe!!!

I found it lodge into the ceiling between the one air duct and a plastic vacuum line (the big ones for exhaust fans)

by the way, how much does one of those bits run yea? more then a router bit?

its not that hard,

Take the 4 bolts out of the back of the neck (providing its a bolt on neck)

take the screws out of the pickgaurd

pull the knobs of the pots

unscrew the pots (little nut on top)

de-solder the solder joints

and, then most of it is just pickin away at the little stuff of getting it all apart
