  1. Nice stuff! I like the neck, the maple looks very nice and I can see the figure in the closeups. The headstock turned out very nice, I like the shape, might be a tad metal for the body, but that never bothers me. I don't think its that important for the headstock to match the body style wise, it can help, but not all that important in my book. How did you end up doing the scarf joint? It looks nice and clean. Did you build the body from scratch? I can't remember if it was bought or built. Either way its nice and if built its very clean and nice. Well keep the progress pics coming and keep up the good work. Jason

yup built it from scratch. here are some pics from the beginning.

i did the scarf joint the way Godin guitars do there headstocks. cut the angle, clamp the cut off piece, the flip the neck over and stick it under the clamped wood and glue it. if that makes sense.

  2. I got this done a month or so ago, but just added the chrome pickup rings. I thought they added a little something to the guitar instead of the original Wolf not having any.

Licensed Floyd Bridge resting against the body

  3. here is where im at so far. i had like a 2 week period where i could not get anything done because i was broke. but finally got the neck template and the neck wood(flame maple). it is almost impossible to even see the figure on the neck, but assure you its there! i have decided i am going to go with a cocobolo fretboard. it matches this mahogany well. please comment!

where'd you get it for 22 bucks from?

yup zakks version. i got it from ebay. from a seller called "tricked out guitar" i think they are being sold for 24 now. still a great deal. they have a ton of great pickups for cheap. but i just checked and they dont have them in stock right now. but check out the store

  5. what do i do? if i do a 24.75 scale the 18 inch truss rod is the same lenght as the fretboard.(22 frets) i know i should have figured this out before i bought the rod from stew mac, but the instructions said to get the 18" length for electric guitars. but even if it were a 25.5" scale with 22 frets, you would still only have about .5" inch clearence before you get to the end of the fretboard. and for a 24" scale length neck, which i was planning on doing, it makes it impossible. is there anyway i can modify the rod or something to make it work? PLEASE HELP!

  6. wal mart guitars really dont sound that bad with upgraded electronics. it has a alder body and 25.5 scale. sorry for the bad playing, sounds a little bit fuzzy, but not too bad. some of you will think it sounds horrible, but ok. here ya go please please please comment! to me this is a great pickup for 22 bucks. so let me know what you think!

  7. sorry. The wood is an ash. I was sanding the old fashioned way, by hand, and thought I had sanded properly. The body currently has a few layers of primer on it and a layer of black enamel paint on it (ok I know I'm being cheap). The problem lies in the fact that the paint is going into the grain marks and leaving it looking black with dips in the grain.

even if you dont use a grain filler, you should always use some kind of sealer. sealer prevents a finish from "soaking in" to the finish, what i am positive is happening to your body.

  8. Here's a friend's new Carvin V220CE... output jack on the outside of the lower "V" horn. Not precisely a "flying V" but it may give you an idea.

    3_v220back_1.jpg

the thing about that with the ouput jack in that location is you can easily step on the cord and pull it out. thats the only thing i dont like about it.

  9. I really like the looks of the string through....I will probably putting EMG's in it. This guitar will be for my rock guitar. I will be making the neck and body from scratch so I could possibly make it with a neck angle. What is the most common neck angle with a TOM? I am going to make it either a strat hardtail or the string-thru TOM. The neck will be a bolt on, so will this be a problem with the neck angle?

you could just try and build the neck. a 24 scale neck is the same as a 25.5 scale with the first fret cut off.

  10. by flatting i mean flatting the finish.

and the change in weather could have something to do with it i suppose, but if thats the case, why has my purple one not been affected at all? and thats been through very hot and very cold weather. it just seems strange that it only happened after i had polished up the mirror. i dont know, maybe there was a weak glue joint or something. it better not happen again is all i can say! or i'll grrrrrrr at it very menacingly

maybe i missed this in a previous post, but what did you use to glue the acrylic onto the body?

  11. why would you need to repaint the ibanez?! that already has a 400$ chameleon paint job! and how can yo not like the block inlays on a epi/gibson? i would go for the ibanez, pickups can always be changed, reverse inlays are awesome, and it was very comfortable to play for me. and anyone playing metal woul know you would never play it sitting down anyway.

  12. Not sure all the sizes available in the KK but you could paint several guitars with 2 oz of KK. To use the Kandy Koncentrate you need to buy SG-100 intercoat clear and reducer and mix in about 10% KK. The nice thing is that it sprays and dries just like a basecoat so if you want to do a burst or other work it can be done quickly. If you use the UK Kandy it needs catalyst and a full day to dry but has to be cleared when spraying the candy and will be much thicker.

If you want small amounts check www.coastairbrush.com, they have a full selection of HOK and can set you up.

    Great! thanks!
