  1. I was told that the less glue the better.
  2. Thanks Garth. Just to clarify: after making the steel rod, I attach one anchor. then slide the tubing on. then attach the second anchor. place it in the curved channel. what is the measurements between the two anchors? Is it 17"? And, What keeps the anchor at the "body" end from moving? AND.....after placing the rod in, do i just attach the fretboard? Sorry for the abundance of questions, I just want to make sure I have the facts straight. When I start my own I will try and do the best tut I can word for word, with pics.
  3. I gotta get me one of these. For clarification, one bit does the job?
  4. I want to start building a mass quantity of guitars and would like to fit them with my own truss rods. I've searched this site for a proper tutorial on building them but, more is needed. I'm not saying they are bad at all. But, it would be a great help for a step by step tut for building them. I came across a picture step by step, which was good, but I think the members of this forum can make a fuller one. To specify I would be eternally thankful to anyone willing to take up this task. p.s. a single action truss rod since, they are "better" Thank You
  5. A nice shape is ESP's take on the SG. It's the same, but offset....I think any natural/common shape looks a bit better when offset....
  6. I remember seeing this topic up before, but I can't find it. To clarify; I have a bolt-on neck, that I want to convert to a set neck.....is it possible? Is there a tutorial already? And a sub question, anyone near Toronto that knows where to get lacquer? Pease don't reply saying "...check out any hobby store..."; cuz the ones i've been to only have enamel. So please help me find some paint.
  7. i found a really good 10 minute video about bursting with dyes, and can no longer find it. can someone please help me find the link?
  8. I'm gluing my neck together and I was told by 2 different, reliable, people that only one is good for necks. But unfortunately their suggestions were opposite! So please, enlighten me!
  9. me buddy bought a takamine in the summer-and nearing the winter he started getting massive fret buzz....i think it has sumthing to do with the weather change----we live in canada....how would i go about fixing this problem? the buzin starts on the high e string around the eighth fret and starts smoothing out near the 13-15th fret....we need some help!
  10. thanks for the heads up----can i seal in the colour? is there any preventative measures i can take to stop that?
  11. i want to have a nice range of colours,so a purple burst-although it would be ok-would be too much. green and gold look superb but gren and purple im not too keen on......that's right i said keen

  13. i saw an ad in a magazine about an onboard guitar tuner that fits under the volume knob---anyone know what it is-any good-where their site is?
  14. the bridge should be 24 1/2 inches from your nut on your neck---you can only figure that out once you have your neck. the angle on the neck is tough, but there was a guy on here that sent me a file about how to do that-"verhoevenc"--i have it on my email so message me your mail and ill send it asap
  15. PLEASE HELPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!! what kind of burst should i do when all hardware is gold with black accents, maple top, and a purpleheart fretboard? i first thought a tobacco burst would fit, but now i'm thinking that it would be too "worn out", I am deffinately doing a burst with dyes, but i am in need of some advice. WHAT KIND OF BURST WOULD FIT?
  16. quick question: should i do some binding? (tobacco burst, gold nd black hardware) any suggestions?
  17. Alright it's been a spell; I haven't beenon lately---had a close call with death-so hence my "break" from building. Update: The neck hasn't been glued in yet. It's a 5 piece moh/maple/purple heart/maple/moh----with purple heart fretboard--I'll be using gold fret wire. The body has been cut out---moh back with a thin crotch maple top(bookmatched)---more pics of the build are coming very soon--I will be doing more buiding this week After I am satisfied with the body progress this week, I will be starting my pickup winder, so if anybody has any winder plans please post em. P.S.---I scored a 7 foot plank of purple heart for 20 bucks from this guy that didn't even know how valuable it was!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. I think that gigi's fretboard design was not only new, but as well as nicely done. that guitar got my vote. I keep seeing the same things over and over and although there are a lot of flying vs----none of them have a wonderfully detailed fretboard such as gigi's. erics came in a close second-with an original design as well-planned very well-i loved the theme. blackdog has a very nice guitar-but its something i've seen already-----very nicely crafted tho the acoustic is tied in second for me----beautiful design! nuff said!
  19. Out of curiousity, what exactly did you do to "tune" it? I'm building my first neck so this thread is also helping gain new knowledge...
  20. what was the e-book called? or are there any specific words i could do a search on?
  21. Can't find a set neck construction tutorial----please help----pot link if possible.
  22. Just a side note Porter cable has been bought out by craftsmen--so new routers that bear the name pc....are just craftsmen or might be mastercraft---either way they aren't pc anymore...if you can find one that is about 5 years old and running(well), grab it!
  23. since noone wanted to take a stab at it i've decided to bring the tennon to the end of the neck pickup---and the neck is now going to be moh/map/thick purpleheart/map/moh I cut enough for two neck also. the fretboard is also going to be purple heart I'll be making the fretboard myself---any suggestions on a mitre box with precut slots? I saw stewmacs and said eff it i'll make my own---but i will be getting their fret saw with the depth gauge as well. with gold hardware including the frets
