  1. I'm looking to build an esp viper-but i don't know the measurements of the body. please help
  2. I'm doinf business with gilmer woods, and I just got a curtiousy call from one of their reps. He told me about the pros of a 3 piece body in omparison to a two piece... the topic is: thoughts on 3 peiceV.S. 2 pieces.
  3. i did build one of those pointy guitars you speak of-its not as perfect as most guitars here, but i did post it for the gotm-the safia1. its got a hot bridge and paf neck-----those put together make a beautiful. and btw: i only play the blues. the numb fingertiped purple handed baaaluuuues.
  4. this was my first build, the safia1. mahogany back maple top-maple neck ebony fretbard-dimarzio pickups: bridge-evolution neck-PAF
  5. the good thing about mahogany is that not only is it easy to work with, but it sounds great too! I think that you have a great attitude to building a guitar, and that you should choose the one design that makes you truely happy. a teacher being there is going to be very usefull, so use it! this is your chance to build what dreams are made of! and make sure that you take step by step pictures.
  6. just post the ones who screwed you over.
  7. hey man, btw: i voted for you-your design was so much more original-not too mention not overdone-than the blue quilted lp. you asked about ideas for a fingerboard-you could go with rosewood or ebony....but, how about cocobolo: http://gilmerwood.com/boards_cocobolo_unique.htm ? Keep us up to date man.
  8. no business that sells a product-full price with a mistake on it never should be given a good reputation. people want to buy a good product. the guy you bought from shouldn't have sent you a mistake-he should have sent you what you paid for. these forums are used, especially for education. we should be educated as to who puts work into their product and who half-asses it. tell us the one who sold you a mistake, he should be made aware of. would you rather that someone else buys a body from him with a similar mistake? he deserves a reputation at par with his products.....flawed. sorry about the spelling, i just woke up.
  9. to me, that link really says nothing... Nowhere is the actual "tone" discussed" just how a couple of different guitars seem to resonate (with the strings dampened). Also, I'm not really shure what that test is supposed to prove...that an acoustic resonates differently from an electric? that two electrics of different materials resonate differently? The test is carried out on one guitar of each model, this is imo way to little to draw any conclusions, especially about the shape of the instrument, since they where built from different materials. what the hell does imo mean? im new so please explain that please.
  10. k, i saw it and i dont like it too much-did you see the post of a possibility of wood choice? goncalo alves top with a light tobacco burst-matching headstock, snakewood fretbopard, and gold hardware with a little bit of black.
  11. i cant use the order link on gilmerwoods-anybody know the email? plus-i'm looking for goncalo alves for a top and i cant find anywhere that sells it----please help! thats all.....for now! thank you guys soooo much, i would be more than lost if it wasnt for this site, when i get some money i am definately donating!
  12. i can't find it-can you post the link. but i dont know about the leopard print body idea....
  13. URETHRA!!!!!!!! how about a goncalo alves top with a tobacco burst, matching headstock and snakewood fretboard!? Any thoughts----still contemplating the body shape-but-viper is at the top of my list.
  14. Proprietary system is kind of ugly. i would go with the abm-but i would polish them when i got them, cuz that pic looks a little dull.
  15. GAXE: it is a cool thought, and i understand what you are talking about-but, i think a figured top would give the guitar a complicated look, she like leopard print AND simplistic design.....she confuses me everyday lol Ihocky2: i have been leaning towards a lacewood top, im still looking for the right one. i will take your advice about sycamore, and research it. and when you said: "If you are incorporating the guitar in your proposal you don't want her to look back and say "Look at the gorgeous ring he gave me, and oh yeah that guitar over there too". You want this guitar to be her favorite for the rest of her life." it was very well put, i have been thinking about that since i got the idea. Jmrentis: i was thinking the same thing! this thursday we are going downtown, so she can get some winter shoes, and i said "Perfect, now i can get some more picks!"
  16. i guess we'll never know and with that being we should stop trying...
  17. This was mentioned at least twice before, they're for basses, not guitars. they arent just for basses, when you click on faq-it says for 6 string guitars-but i just noticed that the prices are the same lol. or maybe not http://www.hipshotproducts.com/listfaqs.php?faqcatid=67
  18. It is so simple that noone even thought of it.....untill NOW! http://www.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=...p;search=single buy directly from hipshot!!!!!
  19. thats a cool thought i will definaely use the 2 leopards for the 12th fret tho! thank you!
  20. very true, and i have been asking about those things, but asking subtley-i cant lt her know about the guitar-its a huge secret do you have the gilmer email to order the wood? the link won't work for me
  21. hahaahhahaha nice way man to go and yes i will do as you have suggested...
  22. should the figure be tight or spaced out-like the last pic here http://fullservesite.com/mwcguitars/images/bass2/b2.jpg
  23. thank you to those who helped with designs-prostheta and joobsauce advice like that is what i was asking for prostheta-im not painting the body black, and as of now-since i haven't cut out the design-its an exact replica of a viper. what kind of top would you attach for a nice natural look? quilted or flamed maple might make the guitar look too complicated. i would like to put a nice burst on it-but what kind? joobsauce- thank you for enforcing my first thought, but i think i will have all gold with a bit of black and she isn't my wife yet-this guitar is something im giving to her for christmas-and im going to purposely forget to soder a wire-dso when she tries to plug in she wont hear anything-so i'll go and get a screwdriver-turn the guitar over on her lap, get on one knee-unscrew the backplate----and pull out the ring from inside the guitar.... and i know its corny and i cant get ahold of gilmerwood---what is the email? the link for ordering won't work for me.
  24. i know about the wood aspect, all i wanted was some designing help. like would it look better with a solid colour, solid burst, or natural, and if natural-what kind of wood. i wasn't looking for what woods go with what sounds-which is why i said already that i will be using mahogany. once again i am looking for designing help-what should i use to make it LOOK good for a woman.
  25. common guys-21 views and not a single opinion?
