  1. Hi On my neck blank, I have enough material to cut the entire neck plus the peghead as one piece, not attaching the peghead from a cut piece as outlined in the Melvin Hiscock book and several tutorials in this blog space. My question, do you think that the peghead will have enough strength as just one piece of an extension of the neck itself, or should i go about it Hiscock's way? Hopefully not too confusing.... rones
  2. It'll be more like a carved top PRS than a 335, but with chambers in it. 3/8" thick I am clamping in it flat now to avoid more bowing until I am ready to use it, so hopefully it will be okay. Thanks for the help, it is a really nice piece, so I hope it is in condition so I can use it... Mick
  3. Well, I got a nice piece of quilted bookmatched up and I find that it is beginning to bow a little (about 1/8 " or so on each. width wise on one, lengthwise on the other). This piece is intended to be the top laminate fo my archtopped semi hollow electric guitar. I have clamped the edges securely down to try to rectify the issue, but from all ya masters out there, want to know: A) Are these pieces unusable? Any way to rectify the issue? C) What can I do to avoid this in the future? It is unfortunate b/c these are real nice pieces... Any help, opinions or teachings much appreciated.... mick
  4. gonna use a bigsby trem unit, probably the b5, even though it is for straight solid bodies, i like how it looks in comparison to others. Don't believe i will do a string through, think the neck construction will offer enough sustain. any ideas on the fretboard width necessary for a bigsby? haven't gotten to the local shop for reckon yet! Thanks for your help mick
  5. Well i am an amatuer furniture maker delving into guitar creation! I am drafting up a neck thru semi hollow bodied guitar and wonder what all you veterans think about for the width of the shell (or rim) of the guitar. i have thought about making it an inch wide, but not sure if this is plausible. Wondering if ya'll think 3/4" thickness is adequate also, with laminated 3/8" top and bottom. Too Thin? Not thin enough? Also, i have quartersawn mahogany in the shop for the neck, but no surplus quartered planks for the rim, only full sawn. should I be wary of fullsawn even on the rim? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks mick
  6. Anyone have any ideas of the bridge height for the bridge that comes with a bigsby? I am looking to calculate the neck angel for my semi-hollow project. Thanks for the help! Mick
