  1. Finishing takes forever..... I'm going to start on the sanding soon. Ya
  2. We have it up here in Missouri... aka misery. You've got some nice lumber, wish I could be as lucky.
  3. I guess it's always better to use the correct tool for the job.
  4. Would a .020" kerf with some sanding inside the slot work if you did not have a .023" kerf saw?
  5. I just spray high gloss and build layers untill it's thick enough to sand with out sanding through. Then spray once more and sand with 800+ grit and buff. I don't know if it's right but it works.
  6. Well I was unabel to take new photos this weekend. I was able to get a few more layers of finish on the guitar and other wooden parts. Heres another picture with less glare.
  7. I did most of the carving with chisels, blocking out the shape and the depth. To get into the tight spots a dremel tool was used. It took forever to do that little carving. As for the lacquer finish over the carving... it's going to be a real pain in the ___ to do. I should be able to get some more pictures of it this weekend.... I only get to work saturdays on it at my dad's house.
  8. Hey GregP, ya.... pickup holes were done freehand. My wife wanted a more natural look to the finish to but I like the more dramatic, darker stains. That stain/ dye was blended with a brush and rag.
  9. Well, I guess can't please everybody.... I was going for a vintage burst. I will try and take some better pictures this weekend. The carving looks a little like old leather.
  10. Thanks for the kind words. I never get a chance to show my work off except to my family. Here's my secound guitar that I built. The only thing that I bought that was mainly done was a presloted finger board. Everything else was shaped by me.
  11. Here is the back view. The neck has a cocobolo strip in it.
  12. Hello, my name is guitart and I'm addicted to building guitars. I'm new to this forum and just wanted to show my progress.
  13. I guess I should give some info about it and myself. Body: maple top with mahogany back/ carved top wtih acanthus style carving Neck: mahogany and cocobolo with rosewood fret board, maple inlay and birds eye maple headstock I started my first guitar at the end of high school. That one took 6 years to build because I went to college to get a BFA in oil painting. Got married after college and the wife said to finish it. So as any good husband would do, I listend to my wife and finished it. And then I got addicted to building them. My secound guitar was a major improvment and now I'm on my third and getting better and better.
  14. Hello everyone, I'm currently building my third electric guitar. I would like to show some pictures of it but I'm having trouble attaching them from my computer. The images are jpgs and sized at 72 dpi. I did use the search tool to find a tutorial but came up with nothing. Thanks for any help.
