  1. Thanks all. Even though this guitar came out okay, I still made alot of little mistakes. Funny, the more guitars you build, the more you realize that you still have to learn so much.... I'll probably enter this guiitar in the GOTM contest. ErikBojerik: Yes, I used the superglue method. That works really great
  2. that's not true. They do not function the same and many builders claim there's a difference in sound between the conventional (read: fender) and "hotrod" trussrods.
  3. I just made a bender out of washers and it works like a charm....
  4. I'm used waterbased dyes and I just found out that the dye can't just be wiped off on white binding. I always though dye wouldn't get on plastic....wrong I guess...
  5. I can't never ever find anything on that site. It's so hard to navigate. disregard my post... I found it...
  6. Thanks Setch, Right now I'm refinishing that black flame tele. The finish was after all not to my liking and I'll put on an all maple neck. That'll keep me busy. Still dreaming on building a "perfect strat"... then it's LP and archtop time I guess...
  7. Well, those are Brits. not exactly Europe.. Anyway, I understand now, but that would never happen in Holland, unless you sent me some fresh cut Brazilian rosewood and even then I doubt those morons would notice. I have 90% of my stuff shipped with USPS and never ever had a problem.
  8. I get almost all my wood out of the US and never had a problem. What do you mean you'll have a problem if wood gets "stuck" in customs? It's been paid for already, right? Don't misunderstanfd me, I'm not bashing you at all, just wondering why some people aren't willing to ship overseas.
  9. I never understood why people restrict their market to one continent only. Shipping intercontinental is really no big deal nowadys. Damnit.. I love that zebra wood top set you're selling on the bay.
  10. you know, I'm retarded... did you just make a joke?
  11. do you? Even though I don't think that guitar looks "gay-ish", I understand what he's trying to say. "Wimpy" might be a better word for his description.
  12. stained... serious now... you mean stained with a clear coat? pretty much like that one. The grain will be visible quite well.
  13. That's a bug crusher. Do you think gays play bug crushers?
  14. I dunno what melanine is... the stuff I'm talking about is water based. doesn't smell at all and is rather easy to apply. I used it for my mary kaye strat (applied nitro for a clear coat) and a tele relic I'm working on
  15. I think it's fairly easy to do. Just make sure you have a nice piece of ash.
  16. yes, it looks awesome. It won't work well with alder. Alder doesn't have the beautiful grain ash has. Thanks for posting this BLS, this got me thinking. There's this product in the Netherlands they call stain, but it really isn't. It dries pretty hard and I'm planning to use that on an ash body in the near future to get that effect.
  17. I forgot to try to answer your question... No, it won't change the sound of your guitar (that is if you use the same value's... 250K for single coil pups and 500K for humbuckers). The A and B difference is the taper. Let's say you have a 500K pot. if you turn it one way to the end the resitance is appr. 500K, turn it the other way (also to the stop on the pot), it's 0K. A linear pot would measure 250K if you have the shaft of the pot in the middle, the taper is linear. On a log. pot the value would be very different (400K or 80K..just an example to explain) if you turn it exactly halfway. The pic explains: The line marked with R0 would be a linear pot, the line with R1K would be a log. pot.
  18. looks to me like it's a two-piece ash body that has been painted black WITHOUT any grain filling.
  19. Perry is not right and neither am I. Take a look at this (PDF file) Apparently there's a difference between US-, far East- and European-made pot codes. I also found out that the A and B code has been swapped a while ago. Funny how people can make something easy so confusing...
  20. I have a few of American pots that are linear with an "A" marking. It's also my understanding that the "B" is the audio taper (logarithmic). Correct me if I'm wrong please...
  21. not really, mine already got a few really cute sisters Looks like you'll have some problems with the binding. I can see the router took of quite a bit too much on the armrest area.
