  1. OHH btw , great work ! Looks very nice to be the first !
  2. I am working on the same kind of mohogany ...here in Italy they call it SIPO. I tryed finishing a little scrap piece, on the grain and cros the grain. I did not seal it with porefiller, I used alchool stain (mohogany bordeau) and shellac over that, looks great. But my guitar will be all rounded on the sides, so I must find a way to get uniform color , (in the crossgrain it's much darker, anyway no big deal since the stain is already very dark red)
  3. That would be great daveq ! please....I kind have been thinking of a way to fit it, and will give it a try as soon as i get some 1 mm or 0.5 mm optic wire. I will share the pics, if things work out
  4. Helloww Anyone have some links to sites were I can buy optic fiber wire, for light decorations ( plain with no dark rubber shielding tube ) , I tried ebay and all , but did not find anything ....... thanx
  5. BANGKIRAI ! That is what they told me this morning at the wood shop. It is used mostly for outdoor, like fences
  6. Looks great , that binging on the fingerboard is unique!
  7. Ok , I have a bit of a moral problem here : I made only 2 guitars for now. But (with my pleasure !) had 2 requests already, for a custom handmade guitar , from 2 different friends of mine ! Ok I am dealing with one of them........ His budged is a bit low : 600 Euros ( 730 $ averagely ). My problem is that I want to make a great guitar for him, so I'll be setting up good Tuners, a nice TOM bridge ( thank god it's not floyd rose ) , but I would like to put 2 EMG HZ 3 passive hums.....just to make it sound good enough. The woods are not so expensive Mohogany body about 30 $, maple (one piece) neck and indian rosewood fingerboard. But I was checking the order bill and only for all the hardware and woods I'll be spending 450 $ + glues + stain dyes + shellac + Taxes from the Italian customs ( 80 $ at least ) + 30 $ shipping + TIME !!!!!!! That would leave me with about 150 $ maybe of work money........well I was going to do it anyway , because I like to build guitars. Should I save some money on the pickups? Tell him I need more money ? Or just do it, with no profit ? your opinion is important hehehehe
  8. Yes , in case it's dried, you will need to resaw along the glueline, I made mine with the small planner and a sanding block , one piece ontop of the other. After sanding for a wile they should fit perfecty
  9. Ok , I want to stain a rounded edge shape guitar trying to make the color all unifor even in the cross grain sections. Can I apply some nitro base pore filler ( 1 or 2 coats ) , sand , and stain it ? Will that work?
  10. The thin dark , is a mohogany sipo veneer I have , but the larger ones, I don't thinkit's pine wood, because it's not soft at all , I tried bending the single piece , and will not move in , feels like rock maple........ Dunno anyway I'll give it a try, and when I 'll go to cut it at the woodstore, I'll ask the guys, and let you know
  11. I gatherd some wood from the local supply store . It's a very hard wood with beautifull grain ,and a funky odor when sanding and planning. Dunno what wood it is SEE PIC HERE(Pic in the middle) I am making a laminated neck with it. Anyone know what wood this is?
  12. I bought a rosewood pre fretted and radiused fingerboard from stewmac, was accurate, and saved me loads of time and fears (was my first guitar ) , I would reccomend it
  13. I am using Epoxy resin with universal waterbase concetrated pigments, the resul is great , dunno about poliester resin, never tried it, I need some strong porefiller for the sides , shellac does not seem to do it properly...
  14. Pics I did another test, this time no chalk in the blend, I filled a bit the pores with shellac before pouring the resin, but still a bit of pigment bleeding...... And did not put enough resin on the inlay, as u can see and probably my desk table is not flat straight
  15. I confirm, but for my experience, wait untill you have your tuner in hand, and mesure them properly, i had to sand down my veneer for a wile, cause somehow the tuner I bought (gotoh minis) were slightly shorter than , the ones I mesured on a Takamine guitar I own
  16. Oh well! Nice things don't last long (kidding) I undestand, I have been on this forum a bunch of hours lately, so I know what u mean
  17. YEAH MAN !!!!!!! I just posted a wish that u started a new project, and here we are ! Cool
  18. Very nice ! I am craving to play a 7 string, I have a bass to do now , but next absolutely I'll try a 7 string....what brand and model pickups did u set up ?
  19. So I am confused a bit....: is a PASSIVE Pickup with a pre amp installed, the same as an ACTIVE pickup ? Or are they 2 different things ?
  20. Ok I sanded down the excess resin, down to wood level, I took a Picture of it , the color was bright red, untill I added the catalizer , it darkend a lot (almost purple) . I think I'll need to fill a bit the grain before pouring the dyed resin, because the pigment filtered a bit around the edges of the routed cavity. The inlay is real smooth , I think I'll practice a little more, and probably soon try to inlay a guitar body. Does anyone know what finish will apply well on the resin?
  21. HERE is the set of passives Bartolini , I think will do the job on my project for 110 $ , Can I pre amp them in future? How does that work? The One you are looking for John , may be HERE , same site
  22. In my case , I am filling the cavity only with the resin, and no shell or solid material, I colored it dark red, and will try sanding it down, I'll post a pic or a link if I get a decent result
  23. it's drying up now, tomorow I'll sand it and let you know
