I have found a few mahogany body blanks I can pick up that measure 20"X12"X1.5". Is this enough wood to build a bolt on body? I'm not sure exactly what body shape I would be interested in, I was more interested in stocking up on wood. I figured I could always cap them to get them up to 1.75" thick. Im more worried about the 12" width. I suppose I could have a go at a neckthrough. What does everyone think?

That was an awesome read! Thanks for the link! I dont think I really like his designs but I'm sure they sound good. Cool read though

why does the first one have 2 imput jacks? whats the point?

Whats the scale length on the LP with that new neck? It looks like it was meant for a shorter pocket. You might want to make sure that it is still 24.75" like it should be. I have a feeling it might be off.

Well I routed my airline body out today and had a few areas of tearout occur. I also have a small area where the router lifted from the surface so there is a small dig inside the body outline. I plan on doing a solid color finish so I'm wondering if I could use some Bondo to build up these areas and then sand them back to shape. I debated the sawdust/glue method also but I figured that bondo would be easier to spread and work with. Any ideas?

Jory, you've been here a while. Do a search, I think you should be able to come up with something. I was thinking of trying a semi-hollow but decided against it as my talents have not reached a level where I would feel comfortable investing the time and money. I thought you were gonna try a solidbody?

Jehle, thats good advice. I have been planning on doing the same thing, trying to find someone to do some planeing and such for me. I supose now that I have a good pile of stuff to be worked on now is the time. Did your guy give you a price?

David actually said that he gets his from some kite place at about $4 a piece so it is definately cheaper than the Stew-mac rods at $10 a piece. His are actually tubular and I think he covers them with a cove cut strip. I would like to see what that neck looked like in production.

I found this over on Harmony-central. It opens up in acrobat so you don't need any cad type software. Looks pretty accurate to me. Anyone care to comment on this? Anyway, just though it was kind of cool as all of us dont have access to cad programs.

Hey Myka, is the LMI rod square or is there something covering it in the slot? I know you said they have square ends but it looks like a long silver square in the pic. Am I seeing things?

Yeah I was thinking since the bloodwood was quartersawn I would just use it on its own for a neck. I do think I will do a laminate with the flatsawn maple pieces and the paduak piece. The big piece of quartersawn maple (72") will need some work. Im gonna rough cut as many blanks out as I can (probably 4) and then have them planed to 3/4" and jointed. I think I will have enough scrap that I can glue on some ears for larger headstocks. As far as the figuring on the maple it looks to be very minimal but I was planning on doing a solid color finish for my two projects that need necks at this point anyway so no big deal. One question for anyone who may know. I generally understand how to laminate a neck but how should I cut the paduak/maple boards up. Do I rip them into 1" sections or what?
ps, only $12 shipping on the 3 flat blanks and the 72" quartersawn one from Ohio! That was a nice suprise!
