  1. Sweet man! I am getting ready to grain fill my mahogany tele body soon and I was thinking about going the epoxy rout. I never thought of the foam brush method. A couple of questions, how much epoxy did you end up using (how many tubes)? Also, how much does it need to be thinned?

  2. He has yet to define what he owns in terms of what the Vero Program authorizes.

Thats exactly it! He doesnt own anything. The seller I referred to was selling templates of all sorts, Jazz bass, tele, strat, LP, Jag, all sorts. I actually made him a handfull of paper templates of various bodies myself. Now they dont sell anything as this guy just pulls them as soon as they go up. So in actuality his claim would be that he owns the right to body templates in general, like they are some sort of new invention. As I said, he's just stron arming people. You will notice that some people still list templates. The guy from guitarbuildingtemplates.com has some up from time to time. I imagine that since that's his business he didnt just roll over like the rest of the ocasional sellers (if in fact he had auctions cancled in the past). I would email him (GBT) and ask if he has any experience. Im gonna see if I have any temlates hanging aroung that I can post just to see what happens.

  3. I had an auction for a tele template pulled by that guy a while back. There is also a seller on ebay I have dealt with many times who stopped selling body templates for the same reason, Ron Kirn. He kept pulling there stuff too. The VERO program sucks because all you have to do is register and then you can complain about anything. Ebay asks no questions whatsoever. I could register and pull anything I wanted, easy as that. You don't need to have any proof of anything. From what I found out, this a$$hole sells tele templates and has taken it upon himself to make sure no one else can sell them on ebay. He has absolutely no right to do this obviously but the way the VERO program is set up there is no way to stop him through Ebay. He is essentially claiming ownership of the telecaster shape and the concept of template routing a body. ***? If my auction hadnt been pulled AFTER it ended :D, I would have definately sent him a nasty/threatening email. He's just strongarming people. I would send him an email and tell him you arent going to put up with his crap.

  4. Jay5, this is a good start to a tutorial.

Ha, maybe :D I am planning two PRS copies in the very near future. I HOPE to be able to chronicle the builds here for everyone. I havent posted much about my tele as It has been like a 10 month affair aquiring tools and materials and what not. Hopefully I will have everything for the PRS's in a month or so so I can just build them and not have to wait for a new router bit or a fret caul or whatever. Those necks should be very similar and I will actually be milling the neck from rough stock so I can show the whole process. Well see! BTW, I still have that Airline build in the wings, cant wait to attack that one too :D

  5. Like David said, it all depends on the thickness of the top, the thickness of your fingerboard, fret size, and bridge type. If you have built other guitars before you know how important it is to have all your hardware and dimensions established ahead of time. With that said, if you know all the factors I listed you can easily determine what neck angle you need. Search around in the tutorial section for rhodes' neck angle tutorial. It doesnt make any sense to just use the same neck angle from a LP if you arent building an exact copy.

  6. Make sure you understand that 4/4 surfaced wood is different than 4/4 rough stock. Same goes for all other measurements. 4/4 rough is 1" but 4/4 surfaced is 13/16". 8/4 rough is 2" while 8/4 surfaced is 1 3/4". Board feet (bf) is a measurement of the amount of wood you are getting. The easiest way (for me) to calculate bf is to multiply the length times the width times the thickness (all in inches) and then divide by 144. That will give you the bf measurement. Simple as that.
