  1. Yeah, I think I'll return to good old ebony. I laid it in alcohol for a night, and most of the resin came out, but now the wood is not shining anymore and it is pretty dull Heh, where did I get the idea in the first place, I don't know. Also, it is not SO heavy, a few grams more than ebony as a fingerboard. Good idea johnsilver, I'll probably go with the knobs
  2. Yes it is hard, heavy and resin filled, but there has to be a way to get that resin out, since it is obviously not going to work as a fingerboard with so much of it in it. Alcohol seems to work, but what is the proper process of it, anybody?
  3. I've laid my hands on a piece of lignum vitae and it is the most amazing wood I've ever seen. It is pretty weird, because it was blue when it was raw, when I planed it, it became goldish yellow. The next day, it started to become green again. The color goes away as I wipe it with alcohol and it turns to it's yellow color again, only to start greening again in a few hours. Also the substance on the wood is sticky to an evil degree. What is the proper way to get the resin/wax or whatever out of the wood for good?
  4. Did some research... He was born in Helsinki in 1952. He formed the well known Finnish band Tasavallan Presidentti (The President of the Republic) which consists of saxophonist and flutist Juhani Aaltonen, bassist Måns Groundstroem, vocalist Frank Robson and himself. He is Finland national guitar hero. He recorded in many styles, such as rock, blues and fusion jazz.
  5. That is a Finnish name, I know because I am Finnish. I don't live in Finland though and he didn't hit my time, so I haven't heard of the guy. Go for the ebony neck I would say. It will probably play great. You won't finish it with anything apart from oil I hope?
  6. Nice woods! I especially like the purpleheart. The color is amazing. I would use it as a fretboard!
  7. Nah, I'm not good with American measures, I just made a calculation mistake probably.
  8. I have learn't a lot since I started this thread, and now I know what to do. I will somehow draw a computer desing with a CAD program and then use this machine which works just the opposite way of a CNC, not cutting away, but building layers on top of each other. This way I will have a epoxy mould in my hands which I can then manufacture with. Of course this is an expensive process and I don't know If I wan't to do in for the sake of a few bridges. If I could get help from you guys, some new ideas, and if it turned out well, I would sell them to the forum for very cheap. Any ideas for the desing? Just anything. Then I will tell my idea when I have more time.
  9. The City of Sultans... Istanbul. I live on the European side but right now I'm writing from the Asian side. Hey people come to Istanbul! It's the tourists heaven! Don't miss the oppurtunity...While I am still here.
  10. Finally somebody at my age that I can compete with I love that guitar! It is simple and gorgeous. Bravo!
  11. AAARGH! Can't look at that fingerboard! Did you finish it or something? It shines....
  12. You haven't put padouk, so I voted for other. It has become rather populer am I wrong?
  13. I've heard that Lignum Vitae isn't suitable for fingerboards because it has too much resin. Please prove me wrong, I wan't to use it badly too. BTW, cool desing. Also very nice guitars at the site toddler68 sent!
  14. Hmm that gave me an idea. You could buy a second hand RG, take off the floyd, replace it with something else and sell it for a decent money?
  15. Yeah do the pickguard frosted! But how will you do it? I think you should make it something like the prs raspberry finish. Purple is always the best. Awesome workmanship. Was ia as hard as they say it is because I want to do a hollowbody sometime this year or the next. What are some tips you can give me?
  16. I have a plum tree in my garden and I am planning to cut it but it isn't thick enough for anything, not even patchwork, whatever it is. Is plum quilted?
  17. And about the weight question, they don't add nothing to the weight of the neck, they are lighter than wood, so you'll probably end ut with a lighter neck.
  18. I had the same problem a while ago but I came over it by routing below the bridge and placing the brigde a little inside the body, so instead of lifting the neck, I lowered the bridge.
  19. Haven't decided on the spape yet but it will be a singlecut. A thin hollowbody. Padauk top and back. Possibly mahogany sides. Mahogany-wenge-padauk laminate neck, ebony fingerboard. Tribal soundholes. Piezo, midi, HSS setup. Oil finnish on the whole thing.
  20. Do you sell your guitars? If so, you should be making very handsome profits with that quality workmanship.
  21. How could they know if a person (like me) from the other side of the world made a fanned fret guitar? Do you guys think they could sew me if they found out?
  22. I have two electrics guitars completely playable. One electric which can be played, but with some difficulty due to the high action. One electric in pieces. One electric which is going to be firewood this winter. One classical/flamenco guitar really playable. And a spare fingerboard which is also playable if you have a good imagination.
  23. I had an extra piece of ebony between the headstock and the nut, like fender style but longer. I inlaid a piece of Turqoise stone in it but there is no way you can sand it level. It's a shame I had to tear it off because it hit the strings. It was looking incredible.
  24. It's everybody's fantasy to make a perfect looking guitar but don't be too obsessed in it and forget the real purpose: intonation, tone and playability.
