  2. purpleheart is wicked dense. what kind of tools are you using? its been known to set table saws ablaze. cocobolo would look real nice, but look out for the dust as it acts like posion ivy, and if you inhale it its no fun at all. probably just a rosewood though. good luck!
  3. question on stewmac's bushings: how far are you suposed to hammer the bushing part down into the wood? all the way till its flush?
  4. its a little bit darker in real life than these pics, oh well ill update pics when i get my fretboard on (yes, cocobolo, but i have a resperator)
  5. i just kinda skimmed through this, so i dont know if someones already mentioned it, but cocobolo is very dangerous- the dust is like poison ivy, and if you inhale it, its bye bye luthier not to mention that its pretty heavy too, but it is very beautiful i made my first neck out of honduran mahogony, i love the color and feel of it, its also very light let me look for some pics...
  6. hey now, lets not turn this into a fight thanks for the info on the depth, but why do you make yours 1/16" deeper?
  7. the depth wouldnt vary due to that, bridge height is adjusted with the posts thanks, though!
  8. one more thing - do i need the FR locking nut or will a regular nut work?
  9. thanks alot daveq i am working on my explorer, which had a standard strat style tremelo on it, i have filled the screw holes and am now working on getting the FR in. i have already bought the floyd bridge from a friend, and just need the posts, which i will get from stewmac. my friend gave me a body that used to have a FR2 in it, like mine, so im gonna mimmick those routes onto my explorer.
  10. looks like a SG mixed with a Firebird very nice

  14. nevermind, found some on stewmac, but do i need the posts or the pivot screws or both? and do i have to use a FR locking nut?
  15. speaking of floyd roses... anyone know where i can get posts for my FR2 in black or chrome? ebay has none but gold. thakns
  16. just pick a position you like, maybe get some ideas off other bodies and drill away
  17. what holds the floyd rose in place? seems like if there wasnt the perfect amount of string tension, the springs would rip it right off the posts, and visa versa to the strings. do the posts have more grip than meets the eye, or is is screwed down somewhere? thanks
