  1. They are definately still in business. ALWAYS out of stock of the trems you need, and real hard to get a reply from, but they are still in business...
  2. Started filming a very special build today. This one will be at the Vegas meetup, but we might not be able to do the LA meet until it's been delivered to it's new owner. You'll want to see this one.
  3. And because it tastes like crap, no one ever steals any, right??
  4. Yeah, but who hasnt been made a moderator... I mean, I was. And then there was the guy from the UK, who got banned from the forum, so he HACKED IN and started changing colours and posting as Brian. Remember? What was his punishment?? MAKE HIM A MODERATOR. Not to forget our current Mod From Hell, Kevan, who has not even logged in to this forum for MORE THAN TWO YEARS http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showuser=21 Ahh, the fun we've had on here...
  5. he was a guy that tried to build guitars in the most difficult way, using woods that were substandard, and techniques that werent proven. Everything he did, he stuffed up. He tried to save money, even though he didnt need to (food dyes costed him more than wood dyes). He had weird and wonderful ideas like wrapping a guitar in saran wrap, rather than use clamps to glue the top down. Even when everything went pear shaped, he'd still try and SELL his guitars to kids. He managed to somehow get in touch with the Donna's, and offered them free guitars. He actually started these, but I dont know if he finished them. He ripped off at least one guy, by taking money for a neck that was never built. He went as far as posting naked photos of his wife on here, which led to his divorce. He was quite simply, a clown. he couldnt afford to buy nice maple tops big enough for guitars, so he'd get pieces only big enough for a pickguard, and inlay that (as a square shape) into the front of the guitar. He invented the "through neck with set on sides" which was a through neck centre laminate, with stuck on sides, to make the neck. These through neck laminates wouldnt even line up with the bridge, so the strings would quite often hang over the edge of the fretboard. The biggest complement I could give him, would be to say he was a character. I actually kinda want to believe he was really an actor honing his skills in here by pretending to be a hack butcher guitar maker.
  6. hahaha im literally sitting here rocking on my chair, pissing myself laughing! That V was KILLER. God damn I need to see that one again.
  7. If i recall, the running joke was that they would not become collestor's items, but molestered items
  8. God... i redescovered his website... """Both guitars will become collestor's items. Not only because of the low number, but because I will not be using imbuia again. It is on the endandered species list. I now use other woods."""
  9. OMG, Litch has spread to google, its like a VIRUS My favourite: Favourite quote: I can do any color you want. I am slightly colorblind, but my lovely wife isn't. She lets me know if a color looks right, and if not what to do.
  10. Research all finishing techniques before you decide on using non UV resistant food colouring, which is designed for eating, and temporarily colouring food, rather than the cheaper option of wood and lacquer specific dyes which are designed for woodworker projects and have an extremely long lifespan. 11. The guy flew from Sweden to Australia to have it done. The least I could do was refinish it Actually, i might have charged him $100 before:
  12. My clients provide me the lifestyle i lead, and give me the opportunity to have a career i'd gladly paid someone to let me do. Why wouldnt you look after them?
  13. I do 20% up front, and then they have to wait a year or more before I can start. Non refundable. I reckon Ive had six guys cancel their orders to date. Some of them I refunded their money if the guitar was something I was comfortable continuing to build (eg: easy to sell, nothing over the top) but mostly its not returned. You/He has no idea what is going to happen in 3-12 months time. Work accident, loss of interest, loss of income, marriage breakup, etc etc etc. All unfortunate, but why should you be made to suffer? The deposit covers scheduling, planning, and inlay work. Then, once work starts I run a payment plan. Its easier to afford, and I get more regular (smaller) payments. It's all worked out beforehand, so everything is clear. I dont let people pay extra payments in advance usually, but I often keep working without asking them for their 'stage 3 payment' etc. We run a deal where if you are short on cash, you simply pay when you can afford to. We put the guitar to the side and work on something else until they pay. Obviously it helps to have a bunch of guitars 'in progress'. Aftercare: Full lifetime warranty - Including free fret levelling when frets are worn Manufacturers warranty on the hardware (but we usually have spares anyway...) Lifetime warranty on passive electronics (how do you charge for a $3 pot, when the guy has spent $3000?) If the guitar has to be posted back, we usually pay for the return postage. Lifetime free setups (one full "Platinum" setup per year, plus unlimited truss rod adjustments) Free upgrades/swaps to different pickups if they are our own handwounds Free accident damage (we refinished an entire guitar once, and changed the colour on request, because of a chip in the lacquer when the client dropped it) Free t-shirts and discounted merchandise inc jumpers, owners jackets, etc Discount on servicing and repairs/mods to non Ormsby branded guitars Free entry to our events/shows Free use of our collection of amps/pedals/guitars when recording Priority scheduling when ordering a second/third guitar (existing clients can jump the queue a little bit) We encourage our clients to interact with each other, which forms a kind of "family", and encourage owners to come down to each other's gigs to show support. Its really great for a guy to get his new guitar, he is buzzing, and there are three guys walking around with Ormsby jackets, and another few with one of our shirts. Family Actually, it's usually me who is the only one NOT wearing my own merch
  14. I decided today to bring one of my employees. He handles all the pickups we do, and the "Platinum" grade setups. This guy can setup a guitar better than I can, and winds about 20 pickups a week... Im bored after winding half a humbucker... he loves it! Return date has been extended by a day also...
  15. Hey guys, just booked flights for my third US trip. Im going to be in LA/Vegas again, from June 30th - July 11th. What Ive done in the past, is organise for a select group of guys/gals who are looking to make a future in guitar making, or, just want some expert tips on how to improve their personal builds. We go out to dinner for the night, discuss ideas and methods, show off our creations, and then proceed to hit the town. Dinner is usually a few hours, then we go all night until we fall over. Last time, we did it during the day. Maybe that would work too. Either way, thats cool. There is a cost for this, but its very very reasonable, and includes a meal (asian, thai, something like that). Seats are limited, cause we need for everyone to get a really good chance to have their say, ask questions, etc. Its also a fantastic opportunity to network and meet like minded people in the same area. We can do one in Vegas, and one in LA. I like seeing the new generation of guitar makers coming through, and I like the one on one help I can give them. This is a really great career, but at the same time its really hard to get a foot in the door. Ive helped numerous guys now get started, which is a great feeling. I'm going to be a little more organised this time around, and you'll get some goodies to take home, including all the articles Ive written for Australian Guitar Magazine (3 years worth now I think) bound in a folder, T-shirt, etc. I'll also have an ultra special instrument with me, which will need to be seen to be believed. This is the most important instrument I will ever make. I could take an order from Eddie Van Halen tomorrow, and that would pale in insignificance compared to this one. Im heading over to hang out with a musician that helped change my life when I was a teenager. In fact, his band and bandmates even inspired me to take up guitar making in the first place. Its a very special project, that you will all know about very soon. The film crew starts filming on Monday I might not be allowed to post details of this one on the forum until the magazines have had their go Sooo.... If anyone is interested in joining us for a clinic style get together, please PM me. I dont expect there to be many takers in Vegas, but lets try. LA is virtually a certainty unless something drastic happens. I'll try to have a couple spare guitars for everyone to check out and play as well, including a Multiscale.
  16. Mikro for the win with some Purpleheart (looks STUNNING) and Allied Lutherie for the Macassar Ebony. Always looking for more though....
  17. Thanks guys, I know when I can talk someone into or out of certain colours, inlays, tops, woods, etc etc. Mac Eb and Purpleheart were both recommended by me, to my clients, and Im certainly not going to ring them and try and explain why I want them to modify the specs. Thanks for trying though HOWEVER, Im always looking for new tops to add to the existing stock I have. Email pics.
  18. If it's for an Aussie guitarist, why not use an Aussie tonewood? cause he is paying for something else, thats why! :D
  19. Thanks Wez, but those M.Eb tops wont make the grade for me I want really really nice stuff, this is for a well known touring Aussie muso so it's going to be seen a lot.
  20. Looking for a supplier of: Purpleheart drop tops. Macassar Ebony drop tops. You know... 1/4" thick... bookmatched... or 1/2" unbookmatched (i can do that myself) Anyone??
  21. I just cleared out all my dimarzios for under $100 each. Too bad you didnt search within Australia first...
  22. Hahaha now that's proof of natural talent. How many have you sold now you reckon? Not enough really...
