  4. Yes, I just cut the lines and filled them with maple strips.I had to wet the maple to fit it in, because the lines are not straight .Then I watered down some glue ,rubed it on and wiped it off.More pics ta come .
  5. here are some neck pics: The inlay in the fretboard is maple....I drew lines from fret marker position to the end of the neck..then cut out lines and fielded them in with maple.I plan to use bone for fret side markers.I am also in the process of rounding the fret ends ,instead of just file and 35% angle.I will take more pictures soon.I am still shaping the back, too.
  6. I have made some more progress on the neck and back.I will post pics soon.Well ,back to work.haha
  7. Looking good Wes ,working thru the problems and finding solutions is big in guitar building.I will be watching this one.
  8. The popular bends ok, have to be carefull with it. My other archtop had a smaller taper.I like a thin top end .
  9. A little more progress : o I got the end and tail blocks glued in and shaped the body . The body is 1 1/2 inches to 3 inches ,taper.I like a bigger bottom,
  10. Man, it's like a wood smorgasbord! By my count you'll have 6 different types of wood in this build, not counting stuff like linings. You'll surely have some major tone voodoo going on So what are you going to use those saws for? You can always use a small saw.I was buying some tools and seen the saw for acoustic bridge holes, I just thought ,I can make that.
  11. Here are some more progress pics : I have bent the sides ...popular was used. and started carving the back, I plan to use cyder for the top.You will notice my ,state issued bench top...and my shop ( one third of the car space ) with refreshment center and open fan unit.Nothing but the best money can not buy.
  12. hahahah True, Thanks Scottttta....I bet your tools are looking good ,too.
  13. I will be using Indian rose wood....for the fret board,,and some for the bridge.I got the sides bent today, using popular and did some shaping on the back.
  14. I should be putting a fret board on in a couple of days, thanks for stopping by.
  15. A lot of building guitars ,is learning how to fix your mistakes. Some can be fixed and some can not.But you will not learn if you don't try.I spent over a year on my last build. Before each stage I would read about it, then look on you tube on how to do it, then read some more, then do it.I still had to do things over.I built at least three fret boards, and three fret jobs.Just take your time.
  16. I would cut a wood plug ,and glue in .Then recut the cavity.
  17. Stew Mac ,is really starting to piss me off.I think if you spend more then one hundred dollars ,you should get a break in shipping.Their stuff is good ,but it is priced at very good.I can deal with that, I just hate when you buy something that will fit in a small envelop and it is over two dollars to ship.Ok ,gripe over....honey could you get me a beer.
  18. Not sure about your question, but the purple heart goes all the way through.I have a very thin lam over the truss rod.Not sure what fret board I will be using yet.The neck is maple, purple heart, maple, with purple heart wings and neck extension .Where the neck connects to the body ,I have a small bit of lam on each side.Hope that answers your question. If not , try me again.hahaha thanks.
  19. Hey, I just thought , we have at least three of us archtop builders...we should get a club name.hahaha.
  20. Jung, I like what you have done.I just started another archtop ,too.I have the same plane you have ,that thing is priceless.A scrapper works really good on the spruce,if you have a stubborn place.Looking good.
  21. I made some tools ,saw blades and wood. These should come in handy.
  22. Your eye to detail is beautiful .I am looking to see how much detail is lost when you put on the hardware.Just part of the deal .
  23. The wood is purpleheart, maple, and hon Maghonany. Here are some pics of the neck Still have aways to go.
  24. Some of the wood : This wood is for the neck and back
