IS tiger maple just another name for flame maple? because i was watching The New Yankee Workshop and he was making a headboard for a bed out of "tiger Maple" but it looks like flame maple...

about MDF being to softy; my first guitar was a Encore guitar, the body is VERy VERY soft way much more softer than MDF i can dent it easilty with my finger nail, but that never feel apart, i done all the demolition on that

thanks for your feedback, i dont think it would really matter about the durability really as its only a cheap guitar for me to practise making and for him to practice playing...

Mdf well before i unlesh my self on a nice bit of mahogany for my LP DC, i thought id try my hand at routing/cutting on a cheap piece of wood, also my friend has been playing guitar for a couple of months but cant afford to buy one, so i have a cheap neck at home and thought i would have a go and if comes out playable i would give it to him... so my question is this: what does mdf sound like.....? is it that terrible?

i got the Saga Tele, after reading all the reviews on it i thought the pickups would have been total crap but i was plesantly suprised, but i will eventualy upgrade them.

WEll the main thing i love about the Les paul is its sustain so it would be great if i could make that even better, but my neck mahogany is only 30" so thats not long enough right? i measured my Epip LP and from the bottom of the body to the nut is 33"

i was thinking about through neck but i heard that it will lose sustain , so i thought id go for a regualer set neck or a Deep Set Neck Tenon:
