  1. Neck carved. Next step, install heelcap.
  2. More body work - wet with mineral spirits Arm bevel Looks like a coastal road - slippery when wet.
  3. well that is definitely the trick. pore-filling has to be perfect before u start laying on the thin coats of tru-oil. other than that, it went pretty smooth... i have some pin holes here and there, but nothing too bad. thanks!
  4. Gluing the roosewood. body woods = 1-1/2" mahogany, 1/8" rosewood, 1/8" figured maple
  5. alrighty then....the book-matched set it is. thanks guys!
  6. LOL! no worries. just a dry fit for pics. no glue yet.
  7. i do have another one that is book-matched, but with less figure. (see pic)
  8. Scored a figured maple drop-top. 1/8" thick, not book-matched, but i love the figure.
  9. I got together with an inlay artist and decided to build something flashy and then (hopefully) sell it. I'm gonna post pics throughout the build...so here we go.
  10. I forgot to post this pic. Thought u guys would get a kick out of my clamping method. Take a guess what that white thing is in the middle? LOL!!!!
  11. The fret slots were not beveled, the frets are. Also used a small amount of white glue. Maybe the radius of the fingerboard wasn't a constant 12" across the board. Still think I should tear them out? As I pointed out earlier, and IPA has mentioned, you need to bend the frets to a tighter radius. At the moment, your frets are straighter than the fretboard radius, which means they will not sit down, so you need to bend them more. To do that, they will have to come out. Will do. Thank u. U guys r the best!!!! Ever in eastern Pennsylvania, look me up. I owe u a beer! :-)

  13. Exactly. So should I tear them out and redo it? I did not bevel the fret slots. Totally forgot. Ugh!
  14. That might be tricky, the guitar is fully assembled.
  15. I used jumbo fretwire for the first time on my current build. It was already bent for a 16" radius. I've never had a problem with normal wire, but when I hammer it into the slots, the edges don't want to seat on my 12" radiused board. I can get a .005" feeler gauge under the ends. So should I tear them out and purchase a fret bender or a 12" radius caul for my drill press? Or just let it go? What SHOULD I have done? What do u guys do? Purchase frets flat and bend them?? How?? Oh, I should mention I do fretting last, after the neck and body are glued together and the board has been leveled I was thinking of buying that stew Mac fret bender (can opener thingy) I did see the tutorial page and checked out the homemade wood bender. Not to keen on that. Thanks guys!! Build On!
  16. very very cool!!!! i love guitars that are different from the every day fender / les paul.
  17. well i got the oily rosewood problem resolved, so now i'm waiting for the finish to cure before polishing. Fingerboard leveled and sanded to a shine.
  18. actually ihocky2, i live near u. Lehigh Valley, PA, USA where do u go?
  19. so i've been looking through ALL the wood suppliers on the Project Guitar home page....some look nice, but really expensive. anyway, i want to buy 1/8" figured maple for a drop top on a solid body i am making. where do u guys get your exotic, cool wood? thanks!!!! build on!
  20. You are probably going to have to peel it off with a solvent of some type...sand it out and start over. Usually the gummy happens when the first coat is too thick or doesn't have proper time to dry. Also if you are going to try Tru-Oil over an oily wood you might try hitting it with acetone before the first application. I have had this issue a few times with several rosewood variates.... Good Read i am following the LMII finishing instructions. I just used a different pore filler. Will denatured alcohol work like acetone??? I have plenty of DA. Thanks!!!
