  2. Today i put the last coat of yellow in the can. Now I'm going to do a 3-day cure process, just to be safe, then sand with 400 - 600 grit and put my coats of lacquer on. a couple of questions: what grit sand paper do i use in between lacquer coats, do i use any? or do i just put a coat on, let cure, put another coat on, let cure, and another till about 8 coats? then sand after with 600 1200 1600 2000?
  3. thats amazing, good work. and good luck!
  4. I read that enamel paint doesnt mix well with lacquer clearcoat, and that it will "bubble" up. The krylon says "Clean hands with Lacquer or paint thinner" so im not even sure if its enamel or not. I tried it on a test scrap of cardboard and didnt see any bubbles. i dont have a test scrap of wood to test it on...
  5. very nice. how does it sound, and how come theres no binding or f-holes its your guitar, do what you wish
  6. I am painting a guitar and picked up some finesse-it. its a compound that makes it shiny. will this work good with a lacquer clearcoat?
  7. i know this doesnt really have anything to do with this, but i have a protools mbox and its sweet. Im taking a course in school for about 300 that gets me certified. The course itself is probably $2000 but me and my fellow classmates only have to pay for the books. pretty sweet eh. btw the mbox is around 400 i think but i got a discount on it because my school is a certified protools training facility and we buy them in bulk for training and stuff. I would totally reccomend the mbox if you have the money, for protools is what the big companies use.

  9. you gotta get them quickly before fender closes the auction, cause it is illegal to put a decal on a non-fender neck. you could also make some. let me find the link to the various decals over the years
  10. mmk. IM just saying, the guitar was like a practice scrap, a preface to my actual guitar im going to build later on. I will treat it with great care though, it will probably be the guitar I travel with or play live with. The one im building i will cherish though and probably only use as a studio guitar
  11. another question: do i sand the guitar smooth for the paint, or should it be rough? the 400 grit sandpaper made it smooth, i dont see how the paint could stick.. but once again, im new to this
  12. right! wow. okay so ill sand it with 200 then 400 then 600. i put alot of primer on. OOPS. yeah whatever, its a project, not a showcase, ill learn from my lessons and hopefully this wont turn out bad
  13. I'm new to this whole finishing thing, and am not good with cans. I went to go put primer on the other day and it started dripping, so without any thinking i went to go get a paper towel and wipe it. This caused unevenness and it doesnt look purdy. I got some 400 grit sandpaper and tried sanding it, it still looks semi-bad, should i get some 200 grit and try? or should i just leave it how it is and just continue with painting and finishing? Help?!?
  14. wow. i went to put another coat on this morning, not looking at the sky for clouds. 15 minutes later, its pouring rain, and my guitar is hanging from the clothes line i quickly brought it in and dried it off, some of the primer was still wet. GAHHH
  15. I read multiple places to wet sand a primer coat with 600 grit. Unfortunately, i only have 400 right now, and the only time ill be able to get it would be tommorrow night, which would ruin my weekend project of painting my guitar. Can i use 400 or would it be too rough? I could possibly do it lightly
  16. g&l calls them z-coil pickups, but i dont think thats the generic name for them, cause a search on google only shows stuff affiliated with G&L
  17. I want to know where i can find split single coil pickups like the ones pictured in this. anyone have any idea?
  18. Sorry about not updating in a while, havent got time to do because of school and work. I sanded the guitar to the bare wood and put a primer coat on today after school. I couldnt do this the past week because it was so humid outside from the rain (stupid hurricane). but now its not so humid (41%) so i did it. I'll be posting pictures soon
  19. wow guys thanks for the fast replies. I'm really thinking about buying this and saving it for a restoration project at a later date. I'm currently painting this fernandez guitar i got for $50
  20. I was looking around on the internet and saw a teisco for sale for fairly cheap. Its quite beat up but not that bad, just needs a new pickguard and pickups as far as i know. Are these guitars rare? It's a teisco spectrum
  21. i ended up doing houses of the holy by zeppelin, pretty easy, even though i didnt learn the solo

  23. Help, tommorrow is performance day at school and i have nothing to play. I was planning on playing greensleeves but i do not know the whole song yet. Give me something to learn thats easy and sounds good and I will praise you.
