  1. is is possible to file the blades on a floyd rose? the one on the high e side of my trem is slightly damaged, but not too bad, yet i wouldnt mind filing it as while i have the bridge off the guitar. anyone got any tutorials on this? will i have to file both to keep them balanced? will i need a special file??
  2. i got my hands on a large block of nylon to block off my schaller tremolo. im wondering though, will a big piece of nylon have a bad effect on the tone , sustain and general sound of the guitar?? was i better to look for a bit of teak or other hard wood?i thought nylon would be easier to work with as it can be filed into the perfect shape and size which is a little more difficult with wood.
  3. im in the west, county Roscommon. no music shops for miles around. have to go across the country to get a good music shop.
  4. if im fitting something from the bridge to the other end of the cavity, do i have to earth the bridge still? as the springs will be removed.?
  5. on my schaller floyd rose there is a spring plate, which pushes on the fine tuners and allows them to work( i think) . i bent one of the pieces of this spring plate under the fine tuner for the high E string . i have bent it back ( kind of) and im wondering if it will affect the performance of my bridge? i cant find anywhere to supply the spare part on the web so replacing it could be tricky. any help would be great
  6. i have an ibanez rgt42. i replaced the stupid low TRSII trem with a nice schaller floyd rose. the schaller fitted perfectly except for i had to cut a little bit off the block as it was sticking out the back of the guitar and i couldnt put the cover back on. anyway ive decided im not a trem man and want to block it. how do i measure the size of the blocks that i put into it? are there any complications i should be aware of ? once its blocked, it will be as simple to tune as a fixed bridge? should i use wood thats the same as the body( or the neck as its a thru neck guitar) , or will decent ply wood or should i use teak? anyone know of a tutorial with photos on the web? thanks all
  7. o im not putting any guitars down. i just wanted to know a bit more on the story that i heard and about these early japaneese squire strats that confirm to top spec. thanks. il have a look around the web for more info
  8. i have heard that the first versions of fenders squire series were made in japan and are fantastic, made to top standards, but this was pulled as they were too good, so they shipped the manufacturing of them to mexico and lowered the quality. is this true? as i know a guy here who is an absolute legend on guitar. not well known but is as good as any guitarist i ever saw. his name is Sheamie O Dowd, from sligo, ireland. he plays in a band called dervish. he does rory gallaghar and thin lizzy tributes and is unbelievable, if anyone ever heard of him. a guy of his ability should have an unbelieveable guitar, but it was strange to see him play a squire strat. he told me the story above, and one of his mates has the same type of squire. can anyone elabourate on this for me?
  9. Hi all.havnt been around in about a year as im trying to finish college and had to forget about guitar for a while. i want to get back to playing. i have an ibanez with a floyd style floating trem. i remember here a year or so ago some guy invented the "Tremolno", that could block a floating trem without any mods to the guitar. i really want to get one of theese, as if i dont il have to sell my ibanez for a fixed bridge guitar. is it still around, can it be purchaced , if so where, and how much is it? it seemed like a great invention and it cant have just dissappeared..
  10. ya know tom morellos style of playing with the toggle switch to make cool solos, well can you but o button that will kill off the sound when its pressed , to make playing toms solos a little easier? i cant find one on stew mac. also , i was just about to buy an intonation setting tool on stew mac but they dont have them anymore. what a jip
  11. cant view the pics dude. all i get is a yahoo page saying the files are inaccessible.
  12. sory to bother you kevan, as im sure your very busy but any news on when your fantastic invention will be up for grabs?i havnt played guitar for the last 5 months ( was away due to work) and i want to get into alternate tunings when i get back, but theyre impossible with a floyd rose. sorry for bothering you again
  13. when designing a new guitar, do you guys : 1) use set squares, t squares, compases, dividers etc to make a geometrically correct shape ( hope that sounds ok) 2)just draw the pickup bridge and neck positions onto a piece of wood(accurately obviously) and then just doodle around them until you like the shape 3)any other methods you care to mention of
  14. im sure you get this post a LOT but im gona post it anyway. about 3 years ago i attempted to make a les paul, but it failed miserably. im not fantastic at woodwork. i have most of the hand tools that i need. is it worth my while( and cost) to try again. id love to make a custom guitar of my own. nothing wild. just an explorer shape or flying v with stop end tail piece, 2 dimarzios or emg's.in a nice wood finish ( or deep metallic red)what ya all think?
  15. forget bout mr jivin.its all cool in d gang.i kno didly squat aswell, just throw in my few cents now and again.
  16. so i found out the rgt42 neck is made of walnut and maple which looks lovely.i have an rgt42 and the neck is painted green ( perl grey is what they call it i think). if i wanted to show off the wood of the neck , but leave the body as is, how would i do that ( like in the ibanez rgt 3120 prestige)
  17. sorry , i mean the schaller version of the floyd rose. jes, no need to pick at every mistake everyone makes on the forum. i think all FR are now made by schaller so im not entirely wrong in saying OFR by schaller!
  18. PUT IN A SCHALLER...PUT IN A SCHALLER! anyone who knows me is sick of hearing me say that. but i had a terrible trem in by ibanez (low TRS2 trem) which went out of tune with a sneeze.i got a OFR by schaller off stew mac, which meand no routing or mods whatsoever. now it literally never goes out of tune. its unbelieveable. i hear people on about ibanez edge trems, but i dont know how they could be better than this as it is perfection. its dear enouth ( $175 i think when i got mine a year and a half ago) but its sooooooooo worth it. you couldnt do a better upgrade.
  19. o i dont think id put another bridge into my guitar. that would mean replacing my schaller...the best bridge ever.thanks for your help
  20. i have an rgt42 for 2 years now. i had to change the low trs2 bridge as a guitar is no good if when you play a chord it goes out of tune. i now have a schaller in it and it is the most stable thing ever, even more so than my epiophone LP. now i see there is a enw bridge replacing the low trs2. i think its the edge pro2. are theese any good, or just a varation of the Low TRS2? also, what kind of wood is in the neck of the rgt42? i cant find it on the website.
  21. hi all. i know there are loads of tutorials on the web, but im a bit lazy and busy, so rather than do loads of research, i was hopin someone could tell me the name of a good blues teaching book. not for beginers, maby intermediate would be good.thanks all (i know this is the wrong forum but other more topic related forums gave no help at all)
  22. from browsing theese forums it seems clear that you class basswood as an inferior wood. why??i have an ibanez made from basswood and i wouldnt change it for anything. its tough, it sounds good, it isnt too heave. the only problem i see is there is very little grain pattern, but if your painting your axe, then that makes no difference. maby you preferr other woods for your own reasons, but dont put down basswood, just cause YOU dont like it. anyone got anythin to add?
  23. i want one...no i neeeeeed one. all messin aside, i really need one . how do i get my dirty little hands on one? what is in the backage exactly? a new grip to hok the springs onto , and then 2 solid bars that can be locked into position? what i cant understand, is on my guitar, the metal plate that holds the springs to the body is actually a good bit from the body, so if i locked this int place , it could still move the length of the screws holding the bridge to the body. hope you understand what im saying.
  24. hi all . havnt been here for a while. to tell you the truth , ive been so busy with colege, i havent done very much guitar at all and yes i am ashamed. i am now back with new vigor though!! i used to be into metal(still am ) and bought an ibanez rgt42 a few years ago. now im into blues a bit more and i wana block the trem, to make alternate tunings a bit easier.make sence? i hope so. now i replaced my crappy old ibanez LowTRS2 trem with a slick schaller floyd rose which is fantastic ( holds tuning better that my fixed bridge epiphone). but anyway, i cant find a tutorial that tells me how to PROPERLY block my tremolo, to make my ibanez as close to a fixed bridge as i can.anyone help? thanks all
