  1. Let's see what happens... Thanks for the encouragement.
  2. First three bodies are CamelBacks. Pics are in pairs of front and back. The first is padauk top and chambered Alder middle and back. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cam...lBackBody2s.JPG Next is padauk top and back and chambered Cuban mahogany middle. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cam...lBackBody3s.JPG http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cam...lBackBody4s.JPG Finally, this is poplar top an chambered middle and laminate birch back. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cam...lBackBody5s.JPG http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cam...lBackBody6s.JPG Now, the Mantis bodies... First two bodies are both poplar top and chambered middle with laminate birch backs. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...antisBody1s.JPG http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...antisBody2s.JPG http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...antisBody3s.JPG http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...antisBody4s.JPG Finally, the last one is a koa top and back with chambered poplar middle. These three are true lightweights! You should be able to play these for hours without fatigue... http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...antisBody5s.JPG http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...antisBody6s.JPG This is typically how far I take them until I would get customer requirements for neck, pickups and electronics configurations etc... The extensions and holes in them are for jigging for secondary operations. I'm still working on developing the bass and the 12-string CamelBack for customers as well. This stuff is what I do in my "spare time..." I still make my living at Xerox full time. I think it goes without saying that I've GOT to get out more!
  3. I very much appreciate it! The difficult thing about a picture is that it is not in your hands. People tend to like them better "in person" than by photograph. Some cars are that way too. The body is chambered so it is VERY light but doesn't neck dive and it is insanely comfortable. The cutout on the bottom of all of my guitars serves many purposes. It is functional. The strap can be moved to the other leg for laying slide horizontally. Also, you can set the guitar on its base and lean it against a wall or sofa without worrying about damaging the bottom or falling over. When playing in a classical seating position, that cutout fits around the players leg and just holds it in a very natural position. If you use a right-angle plug on the cable, the cable just flows naturally along the line of the guitar and is unobtrusive and will not come out if stepped on. With a straight cable, it is aimed up towards the strap for looping through it. Also, it is easy to find the output jack on a dark stage. There is method to my madness! By the way, the sign is made from Kelela and I used that type of wood sandwiched between bookmatched padauk top and back on my only solid body guitar... a Mantis... which is about 1.25" narrower than the Cicada but similar in shape and despite its diminutive size and weight (only 6.3 pounds for a solid body), everyone who has plugged it in has compared it to a Gibson ES335 for tone! You look at it and you think either your eyes or your ears are playing tricks on you because a guitar that small cannot possibly sound like that, and yet it does... fat, huge, and warm!
  4. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cic...er_Cicada2s.jpg Got a repair going out tomorrow as well... Pretty productive weekend!
  5. Cool. What kind of top is on the guitar with white humbuckers? It's really pretty. That's a Mantis with koa top and back with chambered Cuban mahogany midsection and each top has a1/32nd" layer of maple between the koa and Cuban for contrast... It also has my proprietory electronics which allow for the selection of any individual or combination of coils which yields about 24 different combinations. Thanks!
  6. It only happens twice a year... It'll happen again in Spring. I'll be sure to post when. When it does, it's at the Hearthstone Manor on Dick Road near Walden...
  7. One of the advantages of these bolts is that you can put whatever neck you want on it. You will note that some have Strat headstocks and others have, well, different ones. It is the choice of the buyer what they want to have on it. Also, the necks are angled back 1.5 degrees.
  8. My booth just at the end of setting up. These are all, but not all of guitars I have built: Here are 6 chambered bodies of various wood combinations I prepped for the show: http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/ima...th_Oct07_2s.jpg This is the view out from my booth: http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/ima...th_Oct07_3s.jpg Here's my buddy TJ in his booth directly across from me before opening showing variety at the market: http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/ima...th_Oct07_4s.jpg I've been busy... Cheers! Boggs
  9. I have my recording setup partially taken down as I need some of the gear for a guitar show I will be displaying guitars at tomorrow. I will get to it, but it will probably be towards the end of the week.
  10. The Concalo Alves/Cuban mahogany chambered body RockBeach Cicada is finally completed... This thing has some serious mojo!! Outrageous chime and punch in this... Everybody in the group played over their heads because in part this guitar sounded so good through my Deluxe 85 in the combined channel that it just inspired all of us!!! No clips, unfortunately, but here are a couple of quick snapshots, one with flash and one not... http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cic...icadaDone2s.jpg
  11. Thanks! I do need to move the bridge pickup a bit closer to the strings to get a bit more bite out of it. I tend to have pups at a greater gap from the strings than is recommended because I prefer harmonic structure to power... I think I still need to creep in though on that one to get the best out of it yet...
  12. I made a promise to myself that due to posting restrictions here that I would not post anything until it was done and I would only provide one pic displayed. Here is my one post on this guitar. The build process is so long that it has been impossible to avoid multiple posts... Here's the clip of the padauk and kelela Mantis you can listen to while looking at the pics. Starts with both pups, switches to neck pup and then bridge pup. Both GFS mini-PAF humbuckers with Gibson style controls, 24.75" scale conversion neck which allows the same guitar to be used with a 25.5" scale Strat neck as well if one wished... Les Paul controls wide open with full treble. Stock V-Amp2 patch directly into PC... http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Cyb...tis_Sample1.mp3 Here are the pics: http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...ntis_Done2w.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Man...ntis_Done3w.jpg Enjoy...
  13. I will have a booth at the Musician's Flea Market this coming Sunday, May 7th at the Hearthstone Manor on 333 Dick Road, Depew, NY (east side of Buffalo). If anyone wants to take the time to drop in and say "Hi" or check out my guitars and amps, or everyone else's for that matter, it is a $5.00 general admission from 10:00am to 5:00pm. I will be in Booth 67 at the back wall only 3 booths away from the main kitchen... I will be under the name "RockBeach Guitars". Hope to meet SOMEBODY there! Boggs
  14. Quite! -Your post was in the announcements section which is "strictly for Forum News and New members to test and get experience using the forum control". Your post in no way falls into this category, and clearly doesn't belong here. -You exceeded the number of images permitted per post and two of your images are *massively oversize*. -Lastly, you have been asked before not to post multiple topics on the same instrument. Do it again, and you'll find yourself on a 2 week suspension. Your post has been deleted, should you wish to repost it, do it in the appropriate thread, in the appropriate area, and in accordance with the image posting rules. Thank you.
  15. For those of you that don't know or remember, I make small 9v battery-powered "2-channel" amps that I choose to mount in cigar boxes (hence the name). I finally, courtesy of my website designer Jose Kercado, have put a clip of Jose playing his tele into his J-Station with controls at 5 and a bit of reverb on a clean patch and then into the CigarBox amp first on low gain and then switched to high gain. He goes from bridge to middle to neck on low gain and from neck to middle to bridge then on high gain. It'll give you an idea of the character of this little monster... It is at www.rockbeachguitars.com . The page describing and picturing them is the CigarBox Amp link on the side menu, and the sound clip is on the "Listen to them" link a bit higher up in the side menu. Have fun! Boggs
  16. The 24.75" scale with 3+3 headstock is my intent. I used this 25.5" scale neck for the prototype because I had it and I wanted to compare tone directly to its bigger brother to see the effect of body size and shape. They are quite different. I think a big difference is maple neck vs. mahogany neck. I also have enough room to extend the scale to make it into a bass... I got my koa at Paradise Hardwoods in Hawaii when I was there 2 years ago. He does have a website which you can google to find it.
  17. HA HA HA HA! That neck was one I had in the shop that was an "unshaped" 6-inline headstock. I shaped it based on what I had to work with. I figured for the prototype, it would be okay. Plays great, so no issues there and it, as the photo shows, is still well balanced. My intent for that model is to go to a 3+3 arrangement, so please don't judge it as the final iteration headstock design!
  18. I was building a bloodwood version for three P90ish custom blade pickups.. When I sell a guitar, I will have enough money to be able to do a proper neck for it... Very glad to hear you guys like my wood choice for the small-body guitar. That, as I said, was the worst two pieces I have. I have enough for two more guitars. I wanted to submit it for the April Build of the Month, but is was locked out... Would it be okay to submit it for May? Boggs
  19. The top and back are koa that I bought when I was in Hawaii 2 years ago and the chambered midsection is Cuban mahogany and there is a layer of maple veneer between the koa and the mahogany. I did the bookmatching also. The demo went unbelievably well! I brought that guitar and two others and the guy's parting words were (paraphrased), "If you go out and play a thousand guitars and one... maybe two of them just feel perfect in your hands, like they were meant to be there, you're doing really well. I felt three of them tonight!" The machineist just called me and told me he has a sample already down at my other test area at work... He is really psyched!!!
  20. No clips yet... The tone pot has a problem causing 60Hz to bleed through when the strings aren't touched, but the tone was UNFRIGGINBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!! Each coil is wildly unique when tapped and it seems like this configuration makes the coil and pickup differences even bigger further enhancing the versatility of this incredibly comfortable guitar... The first picture shows how well balanced it is. The rest are simply camera wankage! http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Gui...ackPacker8s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Gui...ckPacker10s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Gui...ckPacker11s.jpg Additionally, I have an appointment tomorrow evening to demo my guitars for a potential customer and also for the guy who is interested in buying a CNC mill for making bodies for me! 21. I'm not sure really which it falls undder because I am documenting the problem but also welcome to suggestions. I have long felt that having a title accurate to the subject matter is of value to those who wish to decide whether or not to open the thread in the first place. This is about a specific problem that others may have experienced so I felt a thread on that subject was indeed appropriate. I have posted about this here in this forum and also at another site (Luthiers' forum) and I have received interestingly enough conflicting opinions on router speed. I think the separate thread is of merit on its own. Builders in progress may be very interested in discovering this before they tackle a router job. If it was buried in the other thread, most would not even bother anymore to go back and read that thread and would miss good information or at least a heads up for a potential issue for their builds.
  22. Here's the before and after shots showing the burning of the routed rounded edges... First pic posted but next two pics posted as links for bandwidth reduction. I need to sharpen the router bit and take the material off in more passes. It took me 3 hours by hand to sand off the burn and retain the radius. Complicating the routing process is the fact that there are 2 glue layers each where the maple veneer is in between the Cuban mahogany sides and the koa top and back. That is where the thin white contrast strip is on the sides. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Gui...ackPacker3s.jpg This shows sort of what the basic body will look like (still no finish sanding or finish on the wood at all)... http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/Gui...ackPacker1s.jpg Mixed up the epoxy/wood filler so I am working on filling all of the defects in the wood. When that sets up completely, I will be able to work towards finish sanding. I have put this in a new post because the router issue is really a different subject than the chiseling the neck pocket. Once I do the finish sandingand stuff, I will post the pics in this thread. Boggs
  23. I'm pretty partial to the tone of a good chambered body guitar. It's all I will likely ever build...
