  1. Hot rods, the way fender does it just seems overly complicated to me.
  2. Well for example if you were gluing neck lams together a 5 peice that was say maple/black veneer/maple/black veneer/maple e.g this http://www.ormsbyguitars.com/galleries/sha...es/IMG_2614.jpg Then you could glue a veneer to one side of each of the out side lams, facing in, and a veneer on both sides of the middle lam, and then glue it up like a 3 peice, only each peice will have a veneer on it, and the veneer will double up. I'm just worried about keeping it black and without glue lines...
  3. If I wanted a black contrasting pinstrip between a back and top, and only had 0.6mm thick peices, could I glue two together to get a thicker line? Would it still be black or will you notice the glue line? Cheers Neil
  4. Looks awesome, love the body and carve, not digging the headstock though
  5. The body would have been routed than the top glued on and routed and carved, I imagine you can just about get to the wiring through the pick up cavities.
  6. Hey I was wondering if any one had a picture of a guitar fitting this description Imagine how a top and body are glued to gether, and how some people put in contrasting lines *see this link* But does any one have a picture of a guitar that is exactly half and half with a contrasting like right in the middle? Preferable a super strat shape Thanks
  7. Its not strictly one peice I dont think any one has ever/will ever make a guitar from one peice of wood INCLUDING the fretboard, inserting the truss rod would be quite an experience.
  8. OT The upper fret access on your guitar looks like it needs revising
  9. The node is always going to lie over the 24th fret, its impossible to have a 24th fret and a neck pup under the node (unless you built a fret into the pup... now theres an idea!) but node placement and pickup sweet spots is all tone voodoo as said any way, it only affects anything you do in open strings, as soon as you fret a note ALL the nodes move.
  10. Hey is the fretwire from allparts any good? Does any one know how many 2 foot lengths you get in a bulk pack? 1lb of 2 foot lengths = how much? lol http://www.allparts.com/store/frets-lt-0482-B00,Product.asp - Cheers Neil (P.S after some crude calulations I got 1lb of fret wire to be about 18 2 foot lengths, does that sound about right?)
  11. Its stained quilted or flamed maple, although I'm not sure of the shade of blue or PRS's staining technique.
  12. Hey I just read that if you leave plastic in contact with nitro lacquer for more than a few hours they will both start to go soft and stick to each other, and so why are we using plastic for our truss rod covers, cavity covers, pup covers, pup rings etc etc arnt they damaging the finish on our made and bought nitro guitars? Cheers Neil
  13. Ferrule placement is entirely your choice. You need to be careful that the angle of the string is not so sharp that the string binds on the edge of the bridge, other than that do what you want
  14. Kinda on subject... Whats the minimum surface area of a neck tenon?
  15. Ebony binding http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bindings,_trim...d_Bindings.html
  16. I think I voted the same as Wev, the one I voted for is in the lead. It was more obvious in the clean than the distortion I think.
  17. Hey I thought I had done the relevant research about finishing but I've now confused my self thinking about it lol so just wanner ask and check a few things. I sanded the neck up to 180 and have started to apply sealer to fill the wenge pores, I am then going to sand back with 180 Do I leave a coat of sealer to put clear coats on top of, or do I sand back to the wood and then put clear straight on to the bare but sealed wood? When I have sanded back the sealer on the surface should I then take the wood up to 320 before going for the clear coat? Any one know how long acrylic lacquer takes to cure? Is it not like nitro I can basically just leave it as long as it says on the tin and then start sanding it up to 2000 or w.e? (Is 2000 a good grit to sand cured clear coat to?) Thanks Neil
  18. Did you paint the inside black just so the f holes show up as black?
  19. Well dressing is generally making the frets playable, like leveling and re crowning which cant be done with steel wool, but polishing can be done with steel wool.
  20. Jesus that sucks could you have not salvaged the body? coverted to a bolt on or something?
