  1. whats wrong with a duct tape finish? i have a guitar with a duct tape finish and its a really fun guitar. the reason i finished it with duct tape was because the guitar was sitting in my closet because there was no finish on it, and its not a good enough guitar to waste 60 dollars on painting it. so i duct taped it, and it sounds, plays, and looks great, except for a crooked neck pocket that was my fault and thats why i didnt finish it for real.
  2. if you use it in the right spots, its not mush, the main time i use the gain all the way up on both is when im doing the slow palm muting, then the choppy chords that fill in the spaces with feedback (if youve heard the chariot you know what i mean). and unless you've actually tried using that setting the way i described it, you wont know how it sounds. Its not the typical "way too high distortion" setting that slipknot uses. It has definition that just sounds more chopped up, rather than definitionless humm with some guitar in the background. and godin, i didnt ask for "good tones" i asked for "your favorite tones." (frick, i feel like im in politics getting my words twisted around to mean what you want them to mean.) the tone that i have looked for (my favorite bands are norma jean and the chariot) in the amp, i have already found, but personally i prefer the amp distortion almost all the way up, plus the pedal about half way up, its a nice sound for hardcore. BUT, i think hunter might have a point, ive only tried this solitary. i imagine that it could potentially hurt the sound if i were to turn it up to high with bass and other guitars in the mix. i misunderstood you godin, my bad, i thought you were saying that a tube amp wouldnt be good for hardcore. your right about what you meant.
  3. dude, did you just argue the difference between emo core and screamo? no one should identify themselves with a genre, and be disgraced if someone not exactly like them called themselves the same genre. i was just going by what underoath put on their myspace, www.myspace.com/underoath , right above their profile pic it says "screamo/rock/alternative" im pretty sure they are wahtever they want to call themselves. have u ever heard "i don't feel very receptive today" or "the impact of reason" or "best of me" by underoath? is that not spazzy emotional music with screaming? you shouldnt take offense to someone saying that underoath is screamo.
  4. so i got a new amp yestarday, a fender blues jr, and its really good. ive heard of switching out the stock driver with a celestian vintage 30, does anyone have any experience witht these amps to tell me if its worth it? also, ive read somewhere that changing the stock tubes helps a bunch too. electronically i know nothing about tube amps. could someone point me in the direction of basic tube amp electronic descriptions etc? but thats not really why i posted this, i wanted to know if any of you ahd experience with these amps, and what some of your favorite settings on them are, nothing specific i just want to get a feel for it. ttyl.
  5. if you want to sound like the chariots guitar player, get any decent amp (i use a fender blues junior) that has its own distortion circuit, then run a guitar through another distortion circuit, into the amp, both distortion circuits with the gain maxed out. If you want to sound like norma jean, turn one of the drive knobs on half. Who says tube amps cant handle hardcore godin? plenty of hardcore bands use tube amps.
  6. ok, new news on this subject. underoath is making a new album which will be released some itme in june. the vocals in this new album are said to be more like lead singer, spencer chaimberlain's old band, this runs through. to catch a glimpse of what the new album will sound like, there is a studio video journal at their website, www.underoath777.com, and you can short cut to it, by going to http://www.underoath777.com/newsite/media/...eo/02-20-06.flv , ive checked it out, and its pretty sweet.
  7. yeah, the chariots lead singer used to be the lead singer from norma jean. right before norma jean released their first signed album (bless the martyr kiss the child), the lead singer, joshua scogin, left norma jean to start the chariot with a bunch of high schoolers. i have the chariots album everything is a live everything is breathing, nothing is dead and nothing is bleeding album, and that and norma jean's bless the martyr kiss the child to me are the 2 best christian core albums ive ever heard. crazy riffs that to me define hardcore. if u havent listened to either one, you should check them out. and btw calling any music garbage whether it conflicts with your "beliefs" or not, isnt cool. i cant stand rap, or country, or 80's romance pop, but its all music, and its someones favorite genre, but just cuz its not yours doesnt mean you have to trash talk it.
  8. yeah, theyre an openly christian band same with norma jean, the chariot, and as cities burn. its cool to find such fun music with such good values at the same time eh?
  9. "We do not have the authorization to disclose that information at this time. We are working hard to get to a point in time where we can fully inform you on that subject. Thank you for your cooperation." "This is an ongoing investigation, therefore we can not disclose any information at this point in time, we apologize." Now watch this putt!
  10. ive been thinking about it, and ive sort of realized, if you dont listen to it a lot, and loud, then you wont like it. you sort of have to listen to it very in depth, and most importantly loud, to like it. also, they are really good live, ive seen a ton of videos and i really like it.
  11. you should probably seek some counceling for that man.
  12. im gonna go with godin even tho its a little bit too sophisticated to be a cigar bo, i dig it.
  13. im assuming ur in the US, how did u do that (for credits), im a sophomore also. did the school system fund any of it, how does that work?
  14. if i get some extra tmie i'll try to be creative, but im not expecting anything of quality
  15. how can a word as simple as "guitaring" actually piss you off enough to dedicate a whole post to it? lol.
  16. i guess im doing a 6 one way half dozen the other way here, but to me it seems easier to run 27 volts with the LEDs in series and a single resistor. That way you would only need 5-20mA total. Then all you would need is a single 1.5ishk ohm (1350 ohm at least) or more resistor, and the channel in the fingerboard would be easier to route. you would need 3 9v in series to do that, but they would die VERY slowly.
  17. this is on a cheap Ibanez Gio guitar, its just the stock trem, it says ibanez on it. next time a string breaks i'll check the saddles to see if they have burrs. i'll also check to see exacly where the strings start unwinding. at first i thought it was because i was using picks that were too thick, (dunlop lil stubbie 3mm thick) so i changed down to the normal "heavy" thickness.
  18. Ok, I have this guitar that had a trem that the springs gave out on. I decided the best thing to do since i never use the trem is to just put a block in the back behind the bridge so it wouldnt bend flat anymore. like so: for some reason now, any time i play drop d chords (fifth barr chords) the bass strings break really easy. They come unwound right at the saddle. could this have anything to do with what i did with the bridge? does anyone have any suggestions. BTW they are ernie ball strings so its doubtful its because of the strings. thanks for any and all input.
  19. with the up and coming MAJOR popularity of screamo and hardcore punk, i thought i'd ask. One of their most popular singles: http://www.chiles.leon.k12.fl.us/real_chil...g_Your_Exit.mp3 live video of one of my favorite songs by them: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3...312&q=underoath look at the guitarist on the left side (their right) at 1:18 into the video.
  20. thats not the same person whos singing and screaming, the lead singer screams/yells, and the drummer sings. and btw its rewritten now, and we will rerecord sometime durring our winter recess from school. the guitar part matches the genre, and we're gonna record drums (hopefully) and we will probably use a compressor.
  21. it might be a simple problem... did you leave the input plugged in between last thursday and today? because htat will eat up the battery, and you might have a dead battery.
  22. "Unleash hellish rock death upon your foes at the touch of the whammy bar." the funny thing is that that is the caption to a picture of a person playing an SG that has a TOM bridge... lol.
  23. i would love an amp section, but my predictions say it wouldnt be active, maybe an amp tutorial section but not an amp discussion session.
  24. thats the most *insert any politcally uncorrect term for stupid* thing i've heard all year. as dave said i can understand ilegalizing copied tabs, but someones own work that they figured out on their own. what beginner guitarist doesnt use the internet to learn songs?
