  1. i did say nitrocellulose lacquer, i dont know why he gave me this stuff
  2. your right, but i still wanted it to have a proffessional looking finish, and make it look like a genuinely good guitar
  3. well, i went to the paint store today to buy the nitrocellulose you guys suggested, and i asked for it, and the guy gave me a can of "Min-wax Fast-Drying Polyurethane" he didnt say it was any different than nitrocellulose he just said "here it is" it doesnt say anything about nitro on it, is it the same stuff or did he give me the wrong thing, if it isnt the right stuff, wouls it work on the guitar anyway? aslo, is minwax a good brand?
  4. i personally think it would look terrible and i would call the whole thing stupid... just kidding no hard feelings or nothing, i think that would look really cool, especially on an LP, it really wouldnt look very good on anything but those vintage hollow body types, i think it would be really cool
  5. ahhh... words of encouragement dont get any better than this, thanks for your input man, i love you compliments, its like even if the finish sucks, your giving compliments its great man!, but, on a serious note, i think maybe its just the style i was looking for, its a completely different style than you would look for in a guitar.
  6. soon i will be applying the lacquer, but first i have to buy it, any suggestions on what brand to use?
  7. i know it was only two days ago, but it seems longer because i keep checking back for updates
  8. tommorrow was like a week ago man! im anxious to see wha it will look like
  9. wow dude, thats so cool lookin, i love the grane with the black hardware!
  10. hey, i put the cross on today, now all that's left is the clear coat, I'll most likely start on that tommorrow... link BIG TIP!: WHEN UNMASKING AN AREA, PEAL TAPE, DO NOT YANK TAPE!! I LEARNED THE HARD WAY well, it wasnt too bad, just next to a pickup cavity, and on the back, small rips, no bigger than 2 sq cm.
  11. thanks for ur imput guys, i dont mean to cast you completely out of my decision, but i think im going to go ahead and make the cross like in the picture, but thanks!
  12. hey, im refinishing my neck, today so far, i've sanded it, washed it, primed it, and sanded it again, tommorrow i'll begin painting if i get time, the site isnt up yet, but its on its way
  13. today i changed the design for the new finish, this is the last time im changing it, becasue im starting on it tommorrow, i should really make up my mind! refinishing page
  14. i think what would make it look really cool would be to use the metallic inlay thats in the main site, that would look extremely cool, but depending on the look of your guitar, im not positive, though the alternate wood look even cooler! ive never really thought about that, its a cool idea
  15. i just think i tried to rush my burst, i didnt have a very clear open space to work in (which i could have made easily by moving the guitar a little bit) and i didnt look around the guitar evenly like i should have, i think to make your burst the best looking (im not sure if you should actually listen to me, remember, i messed mine up ) take your time as much as possible and make sure you do a thourough(sp) job, and which i should have done, practice on a scrap piece before you do yor guitar, it'll make a difference!
  16. i think what he means is rout the cavities for the inlays at different depths so the clear material on top of it will be different distances from the actual "picture," giving it a wavy effect
  17. I'm not sure i like relics and such, because if ur guitar looks real rough and rusted, etc., people that don't know anything abot guitars think it's a bad guitar, and you dont get taken seriously, but i do like seeing them just not having them
  18. i love the designs except for the first one on the left, i forget what its called, but everything else is AWESOME!
  19. say i messed up on painting a guitar, and i masked part of it before the original paint was ready to be masked, and some of it tore off when i took the tape off, do i need to completely remove all of the paint, or can i just smooth it out and then paint over it?
  20. I just added the picture of my new idea for the finish, its going to be red and black with the "trapazoidal stripe" if you guys like it, let me know -jack
  21. ok, heres the deal, i "changed my mind on how i'm going to complete my refinishing project" it's in quotes because i didn't realize i wanted it different until i messed up on my first attempt. well, i guess it's not too bad because it's still going to be a great guitar, my burst was not a success. It was blotchy, and there were marks from whre the push pins were (should've taken your "holding the template" advice, Brian.)<--other than that, i dont know what i did wrong, so im going to take this as a sign that it wasnt the best way to go, im not going to just paint it black or anything, im probably going to make a red trapazoidal (sp?) stripe down the middle, and maybe something else, im not sure, but I'll make it something that ill be sure to do correctly
  22. thanks Brian, it's not too late, it's amazing how long i can stare at the computer waiting for replies (just kidding, im not just sitting here, lol)
