  1. I think you have a chance here to make a nice guitar. LP-tele-strat. ;-) Have you thought of filling the pickup cavities, and rerouting them again (would work if you're going for a solid color on top) Here is great article about the 22 fret vs 24 fret discussion. http://www.edromanguitars.com/tech/22vs24.htm It's all you wanna get out of your guitar. Do you wanna built a Les Paul copy, or do you tweek the design a little. Les Paul eventually broke up with Gibson cause he thought there weren't innovative enough. Enough reasons to improve a les Paul. Go for it. For $20 there is nothing lost.
  2. I also bought that Dremel copy at ALDI. I thought it was a good deal, until using it. It overheats and just gives up after 25 min. of use. My advise. Buy Dremel. Not this cheap China copy crap!!!
  3. I mostly store my wood inside my guitars. ;-)
  4. I'm also thinking putting a AANJ in. ;-) Les Paul seemed to have bitched all the times that Gibson wasn't innovative enough. I think he would have loved the AANJ.
  5. I'm not much of a tool junky. If a cheap tools does the trick, I'm fine with it. Although sometimes you get what you pay for. I have seen the expensive Auriou's at work, and gosh....is that a sweet file. Smooth as a babies bottoms. Really nice. Just the price is killing me. Good to hear you guys are having great results with the Hardware type files.
  6. Hey, maiden??? Why fry the guy like you did. He is just airing his opinion. He tried both guitars and likes the EPI better. The way he words it, it sounds like a very reasonable choice.
  7. With all these great JSssss popping up on this site, I guess more and more people get inspired. So for people wanting to build their own copy here is link to original plans: Radius plans There have been some people asking what dimension are on the bottom of the drawing where it says 1'0 9/16". They were trying to figure out what size wood blank to buy. For us Europeans all these inches and feet can be pretty confusing. The 1'0 9/16" stands for 1' foot and 9/16" inches. With 1' foot being 12" inches. So the width of the body would come to 12 9/16". And with 1" inch being 25.4mm this would come down to about 319mm. I think the total length of the body is not mentioned on the plans, but sould come close to 18". Buying a 13"x18" wood blank would be the absolute min needed. I got mine out of a 15"x19" limba blank. Thickness needed is 1 3/4" or about 45mm. Good luck!!
  8. Giga, what tools did you use to carve that body???? It looks better then some factory prototypes I have seen.
  9. I see different wood rasps available. Some very cheap, some very expensive. Anyone having good experiences with any of these, or any other recommendations. Choices: Hardware store wood rasps/files - $12 Lmii's Handmade Hungarian rasps ~ $20-30 Nichelson rasp #50 ~ $50 Auriou's handmade rasps ~ $100 Thanks!!! I know, .... I hear you say belt sander......but I would rather do it the old fashion way.
  10. Why don't you order copy of that same book, then???
  11. This is exactly what I did when visiting Hong Kong. Spend hours in Tommy Lee Music store and tested everything out there. Some guitars felt right, some didn't. Best is to form your own opinion by trying things out.
  12. I like the feel of Rosewood, I like the look of Ebony. The dark wood of Ebony can really bring out the look a the guitar. I'm using chrome hardware and a Candy apple top coat, so I went for Ebony. You mentioned keeping the body without any top coat, so I think Rosewood will look better. Darn, seeing all those JSsssss is so exciting. ;-)
  13. What's up with all these JSsssssss suddenly appearing out of the woodworks???? Very cool. I must say this one looks great Gigabyte, I also like the way you handled the back of the AANJ on this one. I was thinking doing something similar on mine. On JS/Radius plans this swirl comes from lower horn and ends at top of neckplate. With AANJ this solution wouldn't work (as there is no neckplate), so JEM style swirl works magic. I like it.
  14. LOL!!! What length and what width? There are multiple on a Radius you know!! Why don't you just print the plans on 1:1 scale and make MDF template out of it. (or piece of paper for that matter). And why can't you understand the measurements, they are all on the plans. (1 inch = 25.4mm). Or are jpg's or dwg files not clear enough??? Here is link to original plans: http://www.speakeasy.org/~sven/site/radius.html
  15. hyunsu, why butcher the body and not build a new one from scratch??? You build most your other guitars from scratch. Someone might have been interested in that body??
  16. I think so too. Saw couple examples online and then Marcel's cool 7 string. Later I found out that the K7's have a laminated neck too. My neck currently is waiting for her date with a bandsaw. I hope they get along. Not for sale! Too much fun! What is it, an Extra 300??? Looking at the wing profile. Good luck with your neck. It's gonna have the regular 22 frets????
  17. Hyunsu, slow down my friend. You're cloggin up my T1 line with all those pics. The 56k people must hate you by now. ;-) And I do think you should pick up custom work. Plenty of people wanting a neck or body with the quality of work you do.
  18. Hey, hyunsu, We know it's hard to quite smoking........but why does the guitar has to do all the suffering??? ;-)~
  19. What about these? http://www.angelfire.com/ca/HONEYCOMBHIDEO...ges/HMbook2.gif http://www.angelfire.com/ca/HONEYCOMBHIDEOUT/collection.html (bottom of page) http://www.vintageguitar.com/classifieds/i...sp?ItemID=87996
  20. I'm still waiting for my router bits to arrive from the US. Should be here any minute. Can't wait to dig in. You can understand that with a more than normal interest I have read your thread. ;-) This is also the first time I've seen a JS body done on this site. There are a couple of refinish projects available online but hardly any scratch projects. I like the work you have done so far. Sometimes I wish I could move along some faster, but I guess this will be one of those 2 year projects. (like first build done in 2 years, second one in 4 months, third one in 3 weeks.......) Keep us posted how things move along, how far along are you with the neck, or are you gonna give a secondhand JS neck a re-run??? Oh!.....and natural finish with gold hardware looks very classy, if you're after that kinda look. Black looks the business too. PS. How much for that model airplane??? ;-)
  21. Looking very good. My compliments.
  22. What do you think yourself??? You're giving all arguments that make it very well suitable. Sand it down smooth. You safe yourself work by not sanding to bare wood. It's an Acrylic clear......I guess and acrylic rattlecan paint will just work out fine. 2 months. Most answers to these questions could have been found doing a search on this site.
  23. I get it. What you the wave, I called the skirt.
  24. Here are some great example of some nice relic guitars: http://www.rhsdesign.com/fender51/59strat/59stratintro.htm http://www.rhsdesign.com/fender51/srv1intro.htm http://www.roryon.com/harrystrat208.html
