Do i need a venier top for this effect?

http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/veneer.htm is that only for flat guitars? will that process not work for curved les pauls? and http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/3d.htm tells me how to get the look, but can you buy this "quilted maple" stuff i've heard from standard DIY stores or where? thanks -

i researched and its a quilted maple top for a standard guitar body that i would like. but i guess the same things applies......my LP is curved and there's no point sanding it down (it'll take ages anyway) i dont have the right equipment, im just doing this project with home stuff. so i guess that beautiful wood stain idea is out the window thanks anyway ( i appreciate the quick responses) -
http://www.mykaguitars.com/instruments/009/009_front.jpg this guy, and another site, got the nice swirl grain effect from what seems like sticking a piece of venier onto the front of their guitar i havent seen the grain of mine, but mines a contoured les paul shape with alder grain.....if i did the same process, would i not get the nice swirl depths? and i guess it would be awkward to add a venier

ok this guitar is actually metal, but i think you can get chrome paint effects to get a look like this. http://www.mansons.co.uk/images/feature_images/bomber%2Ejpg my guitar currently has had the laquer sanded from it. its now matt black paint all over the body. can i spray a crome paint onto the guitar as it is, or do i have to totally strip the guitar and start the paint work from scratch? thanks

if you could post them up on here that would be helpful for me and other people for sure how hard is it to tape around a nice edge? also im guessing you have to use sprays, coz i was considering dyes

litchfield, how did you get that maple to look like that? http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/Misc%20pics/stuff%20004.jpg i would like that in red.....im trying to find out how to do that, u know....not monotone, it has darker parts symmetrically in them kinda... thanks

Ive read from that reranch site a brief idea of taping around the edge of the guitar and then spraying so you get your own natural binding look. is this possible, has anyone done it? i also imagine taping accurately to be awkward as its curves obviously....im a perfectionist, so im worried this will be easy to mess up if i try it thanks

On this web site it shows putting a decal onto a headstock. can this be done on the body? like, before you laquer it/clear coat stuff you do the same process as the headstock decal but putting it this time on a stained body? thanks

i think i perfer it without the darker oil look.....can i just sand it down and then add a small amount of varnish or i'll look into it (dont attack me) also is there a way of removing the paint yet preserving the epiphone inlay at the top of the headstock? and by some miracle the limited edition stamp on the back (i only ask coz i have one like yours, but i guess your headstock was always red) thanks for the help!

thanks for the help is the scraper used to ge the lacquer stuff off, and then sanding down to wood? if so, i think i only need sanding.....i sanded the laquer off a while ago on most of the neck so it would play better and i'll have to research more about what sandpapers to use do i just put masking tape along the side of the fretboard to protect it when sanding? btw, Maiden69 your fret board looks awesome cheers again

ok, i dunno what my nut is made out of! but anyway i've gone through the site and i'll double check but i dont think there's anything about removing paint from the neck. sorry if there is, i know noobs are painful. sanding was my other possibility but it seems awkward around the nut on the headstock, but i guess if thats my problem it'll just take ages. if your sanding, how do you not scratch the sides of the rosewood fretboard? put tape on it? also while im asking, i didnt find anywhere saying how to clean frets. as in, not the frets, but the fret spaces. my wordings great i know. can you use a bit of white spirit to remove some of the gunk than must have accumulated over time? thanks!

when i got my fuzz probe pedal from america, i got away with import charge i think coz it was a gift, got charged VAT which was ok.....but got a charge of £35 or something from Royal Mail saying it's a clearance fee......whats this?!

Hey I have an epiphone neck. I want to strip the paint off it. For the body, i'm using chemical paint stripper. Can i do this for the neck? im concerned for the side of the rosewood fingerboard and the plastic string groove thing at the top can i just put tape around the edges? i guess it would soak through...is this damaging? thanks for your help

hey thanks for the advice. i've got a lot or reading to do! the parts for the tune o matic bridge did come off when i got a knife under them. as with the truss rod: i took off the strings, and now if i unscrew it on the back does the neck just come away? im worried about the tross rod, it seems important in the setup of the guitar.

hi, hope you can help. im a noob to this board, so if i've posted this in the wrong area etc. i'll expect lots of abusive/hitmen coming my way anyway...im wanting to drastically change my guitar. it would be easier if i could remove the bolt on neck. i have an epiphone lp100. can i just unscrew it and thats it? i know it has a tross rod...my question is about that? what do i do with that? just unscrew that as well and then screw it back in when im done?? also, on the face of my guitar, where the 2 tuning bridge parts are put into the guitar, i have 4 metal pieces stuck into my guitar (to allow screwing of the pieces into the guitar)...hopefully you'll know what i mean, its how every gibson base is attached. anyway.....cant get these off, and sanding down will be much easier if i can. can i? or are they glued thanks for your time, baz
