  1. Send me the pickups, I could use the wire in there as I'm making my own custom pickups . Ok, to your problem. If you want to bring the pickup back to life, you could try building a pickup winder. If you use a drill, you will risk to break the wire as it's as thin as hair. Search the internet for ideas and build a winding mechanism. After you rewind the the pickup, it'll sound more vintage because it's now handwound (You might want to pot it afterwards though). Be aware, an average single coil is about 8000-9000 turns of wire. Anyway, good luck, and if you are thinking of throwing the thing away, send me an e-mail. I'd be happy to recieve some free wire and a free bobbin for my next Raydenmegasuperhyperpickup. Naah, I'm not that pro at pickups... I just need something to practice on ----------- Jimbo
  2. I mean the one used on the USA Gibson Les Pauls. -------------- Jimbo
  3. Well, I was about to buy the ESP EC-100QM and the shop-guy said it was mahogany. It was truly the heaviest guitar (by mass) I've held in my hands. Now, Music123 sells it with an agathis body. Is agathis as heavy as the heavier type of mahogany? I don't want to buy an agathis guitar... :\ I think the guitar is gorgeus. Just needs a few of custom-made pickups and golden hardware (including a bigsby trem) and it'll be a sweety. ---------- Jimbo
  4. I couldn't find any information about the wood called Agathis... What's the sound compared to mahogany/alder? how heavy is it? ------------ Jimbo
  5. Umm... sand off and refinish??? I don't see a good way to remove the sign... maybe some sort of acid... ------------ Jimbo
  6. Thanks alot, that'll be a whole friday of reading. You're a lifesaver ------------- jimbo
  7. Bright white Les Paul with golden hardware + bigsby tremolo and 3 custom hand-made pickups (H-S-H positioning). Concentric pots and custom-made wiring. ..... Oh, and "Jim Rayden Custom Shop" written on the head And an active cab sim built in for straight recording, wich can be turned on/off by a main vol switch pot. Ok, I don't know about the cab sim... maybe went too far Actually everything except "white les paul" and the cab sim part is going to be included in my current project. ---------- Jimbo
  8. I'm gonna put a solid finish on it, so grain direction is no big deal. I got a huge piece of ash but I think I'll buy the 1/2 size alder too. I think the ash isn't dried enough... Oh, won't it damage the sustain a bit if I make the body out of that many pieces? What do the drying process look like? I can throw it down to the corner of my room and take it out after a year or two? ------------ jimbo
  9. Hmm, what causes the side seam to be seen if I form it and sand it to the same level? I mean, there's grain fill, sealer, all that stuff to make the finish look smooth... ---------- Jimbo
  10. I found some suitable alder for me in the local woodshop but it's thickness is about 1 inch. Now, would it be too bad to glue the guitar out of 6 pieces: three side-by-side and in two layers. I've never seen guitars built with two layers of wood, will it be alright or should I keep looking? ------------ Jimbo
  11. Bigsby B5 and B50 seem to be exactly the same thing with a minor design change. One seems to be rounder. What's the real cause of the price difference? ----------- Jimbo
  12. Everything's ok now, I looked at Guitar ReRanch thoughly and it has no big choice and no big chance to buy wrong stuff. I read the tutorials there and I also got someone on MSN who explained the whole finishing progress to me throughly So now I'm happy and won't have to bother you anymore ---------- Jimbo
  13. Well, I don't actually need to know everything about color types... I think. Why don't you help me out and give me a list of things to online-order from a certain paint shop... you know, grain filler, primer, paint, clear, what types, etc... I need to paint a three-colour alder solid-body (blue-black-white) and I need a list of what type of what paint to buy. Just as a reminder, I don't mean to be rude to any helping people like it seemed from the first post... --------- Jimbo
  14. Sorry, Maiden69. I didn't mean to be offensive. I like the tutorials but I don't understand the endless conversations and argues following them. primers, nitros, acrylics, polys, what to use with what, what not to use with what, etc... oh, and hello! hmm... the jet tutorial mentions an ivory soap... is this used with guitars too?? ----------- Jimbo
  15. Oops... I just noticed I accidently posted this to the tutorial section...
  16. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to paint. So, I would need some help selecting the cans for my guitar. I don't know anything about the paint types there are and I don't understand the mumbo-jumbo in those stickys. Here's the situation: I want to make a custom finish but the local guitar repair shop don't do this kind of stuff. I need to paint it myself... What kind of spray cans to choose for primer, colours, etc? How many layers is enough? And I don't want to buy the big brushing system since I'm not painting very often. ----------- Jimbo
