  1. So do the Bartolini pickups come just on their own? Or do you get pots and such, as with the EMGs? If not what pots and such would I have to get, in order to install a Bartolini Musicman pickup? Thanks
  2. I am assuming its the best sounding spot. but where is the sweet spot? or does it differ from bass to bass? i am unfamiliar with this term. I just know how to play it. Thanks.
  3. i was going to try to make some type of block to hold my wood as i sand it down to veneer it.
  4. Hey im curious as to how people feel about single-pickup basses. Whether it be a musicman humbucker, pbass or soapbar, please let me know. Any info would be appreciated.
  5. man am i ever gonna live that one down?
  6. what unit would you use for the led? is there something on www.fiberopticproducts.com you could point me towards? i dont know anything about fiber optics... id like to get a parts list together. so, it would just be a battery n switch going to an LED with an attachment to the led wires? so when u install the .75mm wire, the strand curves up over a few frets? do u run it shallow then ange the hole on the edge of the fingerboard? thanks
  7. yeah i hear ya, i wasnt sure if i could apply a 1/8" veneer. but a paper thin piece would do nothing, i know that. but the only issue is tuners huh. how would be the best way to get a piece of to that thin? belt sander? Oingo boingo huh... man boingo fans seem to be few n far between. they should be on that bands reunited show....
  8. Is it possible to take a piece of ur guitar top. and use it to veneer the headstock? i expect id have to thin it a bit, but will the tuners be able to attach still?? will it affect tone? im looking at maple burl... thanks..
  9. Im sure if you had to, you might be able to take out a lil room from the neck itself. but correct me if im wrong, im not sure. especially as it would be on the bass side. but the idea of using .75mm cable is kool. could u not run aline to each do, and then, use one of those 25 line connectors and put an LED in it. this would be in the body of course. but it would draw little power and only one LED to service or fix if need be. all in the body. This is your idea from ur post is it not? Im just trying to see if i understand it. thanks
  10. yeah but they dont make the schaller in black. only black chrome, and its 60 dollars from allparts.com. do u think the gotoh will really flake? why didnt you guys put a piece of duct tape over ur slotted, and then u wont be as harsh on the hardware. are there any other sources for a cheap schaller in black other than allparts? thanks
  11. Ok so the guitar im going to make is going to use a TOM, but i dont know what one to buy.... I dont want to spend a fortune. I want it to be black (kinda limits it). But i was curious as to what one to pick, so far ive seen: Gotoh TOM - $30 at allparts Mighty Mite - $15 i think im not sure wat else there is. any suggestions on a good priced good quality bridge? thanks
  12. This site was brought up in a previous LED post, but I was curious if anyone thinks you could use this as an LED system? http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Kits.htm Item FSK-2 and it would wire up like this: Battery___LED______|______|______|______|______|______|______| Each of the vertical bars, being the fret dots. Could add a switch no prob. You may need to buy more connectors, but is this not basically an LED system? just cut n connect with T-Shaped Connectors. Looks very professional too. Not some radio shack hack job. Let me know what u think. Thanks
  13. Hey thanks for the tips, but im curious as to how mahogany would look stained. im making a guitar with red acrylic headstock, and i figured maple would be the brightest red. I like my heavy metal as well so maybe just plain maple will work? how will it stain. or dye i guess is whats best to use isnt it? will the carved spots dye differently? id like to use mahogany, but im worried it wont be bright enough once its dyed. thanks
  14. I am going to start a body. I want to make it with a carved top. Carved as in like a picture carved, not a traditional carved top. My question is, Is using a two piece body made of say birds eye maple going to sound any good? Id like to use quilted maple, but its rather pricey. Im not sure what to use. but im going to stain it red and clear coat it. Do figured maples carve well? thanks
  15. forgot to ask, so then i can use a non TOM bridge and standard mounting to attach the neck. and no angle would be required? or would the edge of the fingerboard have an angle on it? is a badass bridge any good? is it a TOM? thanks
  16. Hey if u want me to email ya pics let me know. but i dont know how to post em on here. It has Gotoh tuners as well. these very good? I assume they are based on the price of em.
  17. I just bought a BC rich neck with an Acrylic headstock. Looks Cool as Nails. But i was curious as to the tonal quality etc. I am an impulse buyer, but I hope its an Ok Purchase. Also, is the neck angled, for use with tune o matics? or is it a non angled join to the body? Thanks
  18. hey there. so is there anyone here that can gimme a hand? Thanks
  19. I hear that there is a brass plate under the saddles. and i get the tailpiece, but how is string height adjusted? are the sadlles arranged in an arc? or do they just go straight across? any insight would be great. pics would be cool too. Thanks.
  20. so i have to cut grooves in the saddles for the leo quan bridge? thats kinda crappy. how would you do it? any experiences/knowledge of other bridges? Im liking the quan bridge, just because i have seen them on j and p basses. i have a J and enjoy it alot and almost want to emulate the feel. so maybe this is the bridge to go for, as it is a common upgrade on p and j basses:?
  21. So if I plan on making a bass, with neck thru design and wantto make it string thru body, how will this affect the height of my fretboard? do I have to make It higher than if I were not going thru the body? Im kinda unclear on this. like a bass bridge that does either, is the fingerboard the same height regardless of how its strung? Thanks
  22. Yo Matt, That guitar is F'in awesome. I like the design alot. you have a good eye for a wicked metal guitar. it looks so mean. Puts Dimes to shame IMO. what program you use to make this picture? Sweet Axe man.
  23. Hello, Im looking at building a bass, and was curious what the benefits, if any would be of putting strings thru a body on a 5 string bass? I was looking at the hipshot bass bridge, which accepts string thru body. Also i was looking at a BadA$$ bridge. Which would be the better choice? And lastly, i was curious how high the fretboard sits above the body?? I suppose it depends on the bridge? Should i angle my headstock? Thanks for Your Help
  24. I am planning on starting a 5 string bass. My plans were to take the body size and style from my jazz bass, and perhaps change a few minor lines. My plans were to go with a bought, pre-radiused fingerboard. Any advice on this? Also, I am looking to find a bridge, but am having trouble deciding. I am looking in the $75 to 120 dollar US range. Unless there are better deals. I want this to be a quality bridge. Thanks for the input.
