  1. If it makes you feel any better my old harbor freight routers switch doesnt shut it down, and whenever i use it i have to hold it with a deathgrip while I plug it in...
  2. Yeah Im thinking the same thing, luckily theres enough for 2 seperate projects. Ill probably do an all poplar bodied bolt on with the rest.
  3. You can use just about anything. I cut my last one with a circular saw, not for the faint of heart though.....Also you need have some real good experience using the saw.
  4. Heres a better look at my wood! It all came ups in today, I rough sketched the shape Im leaning towards on the maple (The quilts not half bad!). The horns kinda remind me of little lochness monsters smiling at each other..... The recess at the bottom wont be so big either. Poplar side 1 Poplar side 2 Man I cant decide which side of that poplar I want exposed for the back of this bass. Any Ideas?
  5. Yeah but being that you have smaller gap on one side and the bigger gap in the other tells me that the whole mating surface of the scarf is bad. Dont risk taking it any further from where you are now, you can cut the joint apart and try again with the two pieces flatter. No amount of sawdust is gonna fix that, and it would be alot easier to fix now then when your fingerboard is attached.
  6. I have seen it done in laminates I dont think id trust it personally, but thats just me, zebrawood isnt exactly known for its strength but laminated next to some maple or other hard wood it should be ok. Norstrand, a well known bass builder has done it heres a photo.
  7. To all you guys who make full size drawings of your builds, don't laugh! Ive yet to work with a set of full size plans. In the back of my mind I know it has to make things go smoother, but for now I just like to go from a sketch.
  8. Yeah ooten2 thats where I got it. Was cheap enough for sure, its great to hear you had a good experience with them. Makes me feel a lot better about the purchase. Yeah they should consider taking pictures of the wood somewhere less I dunno dungeonly....
  9. I literally had to toss a coin between the Kraken and Toddler........
  10. Here is the poplar I won today also. I got enough for a few projects $29.00 with shipping. Kinda sucks that i can buy the same type of wood at home depot for about 10 bucks, but i really like the mineral stains in these boards and to think they filter those out at hardware stores. Back of Boards, COOL!
  11. Top notch man, looks great. By the way your shop looks kinda dangerous!
  12. Here is the top I won off ebay today cost $18.00 Is it just me or does it look depressed in its current enviroment? Being the lighting isnt so great in the picture Im hoping the figure will be a little better in person but if not oh well.
  13. I know what some of your are thinking and no Im not going to dress up a squire or an old Ibanez No this will be a from scratch build and a quality one at that. All hardware will be built by me. The only thing that will be bought premade are frets, fiberoptics, electronics and possibly the bridge. Specs are: 4 string headless neck-through 35" scale Nine laminate neck of purpleheart, Paduak, Maple.(last bass build produced 2 neckblanks about 25$ here.) Mineral stained poplar body, I really like poplar and would use it even not on the cheap! Quilted maple top (wont be a multi A top but Itll be nice) passive J pups with matching wood covers (brand undetermined, depending on budget) Maybe a homebuilt active Eq MAYBE! (depending on budget) fiberoptic side markers Cocobolo fretboard Lmi fretwire Home built headless tuners Home built truss rod (longer than whats availible from all the retailers ) Home built strapbuttons, knobs, covers ect. neck blank
  14. Why not just build a baritone guitar?
  15. Just out of curiosity how do you get your logo in your pickups?
  16. Wow the drama....anywho nice work on these guitars! I really like the bass, it would be great if we could hear some sound clips. Great job! Your building skill are exceptional!
  17. Last one I bought came from Lmi You have to pay a little more for them to slot it, but they did a nice job.
  18. Excellent first project, I like your selection of pickups too.
  19. Yeah I thought about bidding on that sweet waterfall, what did you end up getting it for erikbojerik?
  20. Yeah I have them where they are different lengths from the middle out to try and make them flow with the body more ( I experiment). All and all the tuners cost about $4 each. Most of that moneys in the brass stock for the knobs.
  21. Ok this set is done. All and all they turned out good, and with the new knobs work flawless and smooth. Not to mention I saved myself 300-400 bucks. Unlike this bass my next build will be a headless design so I am working on a smaller more petite tuner design. Also I was able to move the tuners closer to the bridge for better looks. ANother View Not too bad for home made eh?
  22. I used a curly redwood top on my last build and the wood is very very soft. Its best to finish it with something hard like poly(it will soak up poly like a sponge). I cant imagine it being very good for a bolt on neck. It is easy to work and looks awesome.
  23. Yeah but not with this bridge. Im thinking of making them flush with the very first bevel to shorten them up.
