  1. Very interesting. Thanks for the reply! Once the wood has resurfaced, is it necessary to do any sanding or can i just finish the guitar? The guitar currently has no finish on it so I want to work out these minor dents before shes given her finish
  2. Thanks for the advice and help with authenticating the piece. I was told the guitar was created at the custom shop quite some time ago. It was never finished and thats where the story ended. Now here I am to bring her to life! Whats the difference protection wise? I would assume a few layers of gloss might help not dent the instrument. Is the oil finish susceptable to more damage?
  3. Thanks bro! Thats exactly what i was thinking of doing. As far as creating the bridge, how would i go about recreating the cavity for the saddle? Route it or dremil it out? And as far as the pin holes just drill press it through?
  4. I have this BC Rich Innovator bass coming to me and I need to do some routing on her to bring her to life. I was thinking about maybe scoring some jazz style pickups for her. I was going to use the templates from stew mac to make things easy. I also need to route the control cavity and I was also going to use the stew mac templates for this as well. Ive never done this before so I plan to practice on scraps before making a move on her. Shes going to need a bridge. Any reccomdenations? Lastly, I have to do the imput area. Whats the proper way to do this? Let me know what you guys think of the project! Im still uncertain if I should put jazz pickups or go more with some other pickups. Once I have all the routing done, I can worry about finishing. What do you guys think of this layout? Any tips for the rotuing would be helpful. Here some pics http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010609.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010611.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010612.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010613.jpg
  5. Hello. This bridge is cracked and needs to be taken off and replaced. First off, does anyone know where I can get a replacement? I havent seen any online in this shape. Im thinking I might have to reconstruct it with a blank board from stewmac. Ive read that the entire bridge will need to be reglued and clamped into place. Whats a good way to go about removing the old bridge? Ive heard of using heat but I dont grasp the concept well. This seems like an easy fix but everything ive read says not to attempt it lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Heres some pics of the instrument and the crack. http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010620.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010621.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010623.jpg
  6. Hello all. I am currently in the midst of a few projects. This just became my new priority haha. This is a BC Rich Eagle made out of Hawaiian Koa. The guitar was never completed and I will be finishing her off. Its looking like shes going to get gold grovers, a gold original floyd, and some creme pickups (not sure of company yet). I need some advice on finishing the guitar. The guy I got it from said it can be glossed or oil rubbed. I have a basic understanding of the difference but I need to know more about them. If i decide to gloss or oil rub what are going to be the materials needed and are there any tutorials I can review. I dont want to just jump into this and ruin a fine instrument. I have plans to practice before I go ahead and do the finish. Figure id refer to the board before even attempting anything. Heres pics of the guitar so you can get a sense of what Im dealing with http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010614.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010615.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010616.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010617.jpg
  7. I am interested in finding out how I can fix these dents on the back of the guitar near the end of the neck. The guitar is currently unfinished. It has never been finished and it can either be glossed or oiled. I have hear of using fillers, or even putting some gloss in the dent. I want this guitar to come out as best as possible. Please refer to picture to get a sense of the dent area. Thanks all! The dent is on the back of the neck going towards the right horn http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/CatalystofThought/P1010615.jpg
  8. Currently I am working on redoing my Ibanez S 370 dx. Nice little s series that I bought on the fly at sam ash for $325 used. The guitar has an awesome neck and a really light weight body which i enjoy. I am not a very big guy and the small neck really works for me. I ripped out the pickups a few yrs back and dropped in some duncans in the neck and bridge. The only problem I had with the guitar was staying in tune. I got mad one day and took off the tremolo hahaha. The guitar has been sitting in my room for the last 6 months and i think its time to get her running again. What kind of tremolo system can i drop in that will really keep her in tune? Im open to ibanez trems and I am used to original floyds which are pretty good. What do you guys think would fit and would enhance the guitar? I would really like to find something that matches the pickup rings which kind of have a gun metallic finish. If you search the model you can get all the specs
  9. Whats the name of the clear coater? Im assuming i have to air brush it on?
  10. Is there anyway to preserve the work if its done in pencil?
  11. Nice stuff matt! Thanks for the advice. Do you know if it would be ok to draw in pencil on the spray kilz?
  12. I have an old bass body in a deep blue finish. The bass body came off of a starter ibanez bass. The wood is nothing special looks like compressed stuff to me. The only reason I hung onto the body was because a friend gave it to me and it was the bass he used at our first concert - a high school talent show! Right now the body is in bad shape, lots of chips and cracks. I have a friend who is a very fine artist and I want him to draw on the body. I want to know what would be the best finish to let my friend draw and paint on the body. My plan was to strip the body down to bare wood then give it some type of white primer to let my friend draw on. What do you guys suggest would be the best finish to draw or paint on? Also after my friend has done his work, how would i go about preserving the work? I know most guitars get a clear coat after being painted, would this be the same? As always i turn to the board before making any moves! Thanks in advance
  13. Cant wait to see the finished product! Wish I has a big bro showing me the ropes. Im left to figure it out from the big brothers on this board who have proved to be the supreme masters of building! Keep up the great work
  14. I think thats totally awesome! I hope you will be showing her how to shred it up!
  15. Yea i will be disassembling her and giving her a complete over haul. Thanks for all the help!
  16. Absolutely some beautiful work! Take that PRS!
  17. I agree as well. Jackson doesnt do it for me unless I know its really something special. Maybe an original rhoads would be nice. I put a jackson dinky together out of parts I bought on ebay. Body and neck were both jackson and it just never had the right feel for me. I placed some really good parts in there but it just never seemed to gel haha. Back to the floyd lol Would you think it would be best to take the whole floyd apart to clean it up? Also i seem to be having a little issue with dive bombing. When i dived preety far My G string went sharp. I took of the nut and made a small adjustment on the springs and then tuned up. Do you know what might be causing this? Im not the biggest floyd master
  18. I lucked out big time. Found a USA standard 1 in black. Missing the back plate but the neck and body are all original. It was switched out from a kahler to a floyd but atleast its an old floyd not a liscensed. Has the kahler nut, original strap buttons and knobs. I have to admit the tone on these babies is far superior to anything ive played. The only thing that holds a candle to it is my gibson les paul classic. I can see why they are do highly sought after and why no one gets rid of them
  19. Hello. I recently purchased an 85 charvel with and original floyd rose. The bridge has a little bit of wear and some blemishes. The bridge just looks a little tarnsished. What can be used to clean up the floyd? Ive heard lighter fluid works but I wanted to ask the board. Thanks!!!
  20. sounds good. I already have original 80s tuners on there. Im going to start combing ebay for a nut. The guitar is painted with laurel and hardy on it. I will put up pics when im complete! Thank you all for helping
  21. The neck came off a non locking guitar. I believe this guitars were originally fit with Kahlers bridges The body I have was routed for a Floyd so I opted to buy that
  22. I have a Fort Worth Model Charvel Neck from the 80s. I just recently bought an Original Floyd Rose with R3 nut. Problem is this neck wasnt designed for the floyd style nut. Is there any way I can alter the neck to fit the nut or can i just use a regular nut and not lock the floyd? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to finish up this Classic Model 2 Charvel. I posted a link to a neck just like mine. http://cgi.ebay.com/CHARVEL-JACKSON-MAPLE-NECK-VINTAGE-80s_W0QQitemZ260425493642QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item3ca291ac8a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A15%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A2%7C294%3A50
  23. Hey Guys I need to install the ground on this lespaul body. Its for my girlfriend hence the pink lol I am dropping in an Air Norton in the Neck and a Super distortion in the bridge. I need to know how to install the ground and then wire the dimarizos to get this baby off and running. I have pics of the guitar and the areas involved in the job Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Links for pics Neck Pickup Area http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/C...rdanguitar5.jpg Pickup Switch http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/C...rdanguitar4.jpg Volumes and Tones http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/C...rdanguitar3.jpg Pickguard http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/C...rdanguitar1.jpg Body Shot - Not completed http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg217/C...rdanguitar2.jpg
  24. I am throwing a super distortion and an air norton into a les paul body. I have 2 500K volume and 2 500k tone. Do I need to connect capactiators? Also what type of wiring do I need to connect pots and install the ground? If anyone has any schematics that would help alot Im trying to give this les paul a bit of new life! Thanks for any help in advance
  25. This is a Charvel 2c body that i purchased off a local music store owner named Mr. Maggio. Mr. Maggio hand painted this body which I think is exceptionally cool. I am trying to find a charvel neck to put on her but havent had much luck so I will probably have Warmoth make me up a neck. I have all the original hardware and an original Bill Lawrence XL500 for total screams. She only has one pick up and is just going to be a scream machine. My only problem is I do not know what type of tremelo brigge she needs. I dont think an Original Schaller would fit. I want to put something really nice in that bride, I just dont know what fits. I dont want to jump the gun and buy an expensive bridge if I know it might not fit. I really am clueless on this one so any help possible would really be awesome. The first pic is an upclose shot of the trem area. The second is a full shot of the body. Thanks!! Trem Area Full Body
