  1. Like a dumbarse, I cannot locate my actual 3/8" reaming bit and needed to resize some peg holes in a purchased neck today. Sure I could have used the 'carbide tipped' drill bit collection, but have seen/heard too many chips and nicks happen from this so..... Turns out that I did find my 10mm threader - they're like $5 at Home Depot. It has the value of being able to be perfectly centered in the existing hole. It also leaves threads - here's the cool part. The small drum head for a dremel is right about 10mm, so it slips right in with a 120 grit head. Turn it on inserted in the hole and voila - perfectly resized holes with no chips, dents, dings, nicks, etc.
  2. It's all good. I'm just hoping this thing doesn't pop too loudly when the switch is hit.
  3. You are correct - only instead of using a push/pull - would be a regular switch added. Course, if I were feeling generous, I could donate a push/pull
  4. Unless it's a rough spot that was treated heavily with sealer - in this case clear sealer, when you sanded it - you got down in the grain. ??? just a thought. Anyway you could get a closer shot?
  5. As always, forgive the somewhat sloppy 3-yr old version of schematics, but it's been a day. I was drawing this while on the phone with a guy asking me about throwing a kill switch in at the volume pot because he has a spare DPDT switch. My question is - based on the dashed lines I have drawn in there - would this suffice to keep everything grounded when the killswitch is engaged (pun intended). Can anybody recommend a more solid means of doing this without a momentary switch?
  6. I am no expert but I will say this - we have yet to completely, confidently overcome mother nature. You can glue the hell out of that bow, clamp it to within an inch of its life and bake it in an oven with 200 lbs of steel on top and guess what? It could still move. (ask me how I know )There are always exceptions, but it's usually cheaper to just buy another stick.
  7. Based on the following search results: No results found for 'minimum +body +thickness'. Any gotchas on the one piece design with thickness? 1.5" enough?
  8. Huf, I noticed you recessed the bridge - was that out of necessity due to material thickness - or just because it's cool?
  9. I just got done cleaning up the routs on a body purchased from them. They are great people to work with - but since there wasn't anything "wrong" with this body, it got brought to me to clean up and seal.
  10. This is cool. I was just thinking about a 1 piece, but trying to get comfortable with having the fretboard included.
  11. You could always just take the tone pot out of the equation first.
  12. is there any reason to believe that the high E string is a different composition than the other stirngs? I mean, I could see this happening if high E were say.... a bronze or phospor acoustic string. Have you tried new strings? Sorry, just stepping through the little things first.
  13. No problem. I just have an aversion to paint stripper. Meaning... for some reason I have the patience to sit and slowly scrape/sand, but not for waiting for that stuff to dry out after it's been removed
  14. Might not be the best solution, but in a paint removal situation in a tight spot, I use an XActo chisel blade. Very flexible and try to scrape the finish down. Otherwise, a can of 3M spray adhesive and whatever piece of dowel/scrap/etc. that will get me in there effectively.
  15. Gotcha. Offer still stands. If it's a thread worthy of pinning for tutorial purposes and we just need somewhere to host images - just drop a PM.
  16. My pics are self hosted on my domain. Should be around as long as I am. Peace, Mark So between the two of us - there should be plenty of hosting for those willing to put something together. Ok, killed that excuse
  17. I own a hosting service so hosting images is pretty cheap for me
  18. 3/8" cove bit around the edge, then round the hard edges and have a unique design.... hey... that gives me an idea..... to the shop
  19. It would almost be cool to create a thread that was a collection of the best of the best techniques and walk through a build. Ahhh just a thought.
  20. If you wanted to do it on demand, you could simply add a form of preamp or gain to an already high-output pickup. Figure, it's pretty easy/cheap to grab a no name single coil on ebay (or from my bin of no return), and add an active preamp to it to create all sort of delightful squeals. EDIT: And of course a switch.
  21. Though we see it on several builds here - it might be nice to see more tutorial on headstock angle, that also included WHY. Maybe I have built a few, but my understanding is that saddle height = nut slot height so why would you angle the headstock (that kind of thing)
