  1. yeah your probably right.. im even worried about using nitro while finishing my strat... im sure grinding abalone is alot worse.. i completely forgot about that side of it..
  2. lol... sheesh.. im not that picky... yeah i got dye in there too... but i mean... theres gonna be a pickgaurd over it... haha who cares... you are refferring to my lack of taping off the cavities frustrating you... right tiesco? PS - you should see my brothers strat by epiphone... the wood is actually splinterred... and it looks like someone routed the cavities with their teeth... its terrible
  3. Yeah i was just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to make Abalone sheets yourself... or something that is suitable for inlay... i have a pretty big abalone shell at home. Its probably not possible considering i most likely dont have the right tools... but if theres a way to do it, i would love to know... i wanted to make a sheet big enough for like a design too, not just dots... im thinkin at least 1" x 2"
  4. i mean heck, ive done hmmm... 4 sanding sealer coats... and 8? coats of clear gloss.... i think its close... but ive only used 2 cans... everyone recomended i buy 4... i guess thats good though... another excuse to build a guitar
  5. Im just abotu to wire my strat with 2 humbuckers... Im thinkin about doing 2 volumes and one master tone (if thats possible LOL... havent researched it much)... so i can get the ability to do the Jimmy Page cut off/cut on by turning the volume off on one and high on the other... yeah... im obssesed... and im used to playin an LP... so that would be cool too with 2 volume controls
  6. I like Figured Koa... its pretty dark...and expensive... or maybe even a figured walnut... not real sure how well they would work with trans white... dont have any experience using it... what does it do... just make like a haze over the wood?
  7. Yeah, I didnt build this body but im finishing it. I just ordered all gold hardware today, heres a few pics. This is my first guitar ive really done major stuff to... and yeah the dye is inconsistent in some spots... so go easy lol http://www.geocities.com/ledzendrix1128/Blue.jpg http://www.geocities.com/ledzendrix1128/Qu...leTop_Rough.jpg Everything was done with stew mac color tone dye with a rag. The second picture is with the sanding sealer.... (spray cans from stew mac) Ive been doing coats of nitro, about 3 a day with 4 hrs of seperation... BTW... does anyone know how to tell when your done clear coating?
  8. I normally dont like those crazy outrageous body designs..... but you have made me a fan of pointy guitars.... just wow...is there a tutorial somewhere on how to do the bubbles... or is that a material finish?
  9. Yeah ill probably def. go with the mono jack just because Im formiliar with the wiring schematics. But I was thinkin of getting twin EMG's.... Do I HAVE to use a stereo jack for those?... EMG's i suppose complicate everything... but any advice would be appreciated... thanks in advance
  10. yeah that makes sense... but i just looked at it today... one can is definately plenty... i just did my third coat and it has a nice build.but its still nice to know for the next guitar if i can get something cheaper
  11. I always thought there was just one kind of jack you can get for a strat. I was so formiliar with it... and i know exactly how to wire it... and when i went to buy one... i saw that there is a stereo jack too... i know when it comes to listening to music and watching TV... hell yeah... always stereo... but for guitars???? whats the difference, and which sounds better, and do you wire them the same.... How i just overlooked the fact that there was a stereo jack.. dont ask me...
  12. yeah i dont know if i need more than one or not... i most likely dont but i wanna get a thick coat before the laquer goes on. I also shoulda been more specific. It has to be clear sanding sealer. And i already filled the grain with stew mac's $20 expensive grainfiller too lol.... but that deft sounds good... is it clear?
  13. hey guys, i was just wondering if any of you have used a sanding sealer thats cheaper than the stew-mac stuff. Prefferably something i can get at a hardware store. I just sprayed the first coat of sanding sealer, and i only bought one can. I can sorta tell that 1 can isnt gonna be enough. I also have 4 more cans of nitro. On that note, is there a cheaper "hardware" store alternative to that laquer as well? Ive never finished a guitar before so pretty much any advice would be nice.
  14. I just got my warmoth strat body today. I stained the top blue with a black sand back method. There is a clean line seperating the quilt maple top with the back of the mahogany body. I ordered some black grain filler for the mahogany, but the mahogany is pretty light in color. Since the guitar is a dark blue finish i need to darken it up a bit. What would you guys recomend doing on this, ill put up some pictures soon. Thanks in advance. - Louis
  15. A SQUIER BULLET MADE OF PLYWOOD!!!! NOOO WAYYYYY Are you seirous? LOL....
  16. I'm curious...what does that mean? I can understand raving about a neck, since that's the part you actually hold in your hand. But a body? What's the big difference between that and any other CNC-machined tele body? Okay, sure, if you're going for some fancy wood...still, even then... ← .... Are you kidding me???......
  17. yeah ill just dilute the black so its real weak, and just keep doing multiple coats on the quilt maple until its dark enough... then sand it back... or will that make the wood absorb the stain too far into the top?
  18. hahaha, heck no im not doin it... my friend has an LP junior... hes getting me to install some pickups for him... and it was one of those "i wonder if..." type things. So i figured this would be the best place to find out if anyones ever done it.
  19. yeah that is really nice, guess ill be ordering some grain filler for the mahogany, how would you recomend staining the mahoganyi wanted to get it to like a dark brown. and also, what kind of black dye did you use, like ratio wise.... im so afraid im gonna make it too black and mess everything up... is that even possible to make it too dark, cuz if it only absorbs to a certain point i can sand it back and ill still have dye-able maple to stain blue right?
  20. are epiphones supposed to have bolt on necks... cuz someone else told me that too... and everyone i know who has an epiphone is set neck. My epiphone is set neck too. And im talkin about a single cut away LP junior... the double looks like a PRS yes...
  21. yeah that finish is awesome... my main concern is the back though, is that mahogany? and if it is... how did you finish/dye it
  22. Has anyone ever put a laminate top onto a les paul junior, and made it into a lespaul... i mean im sure theres stuff im not thinkin of.. like the neck pocket... but i just thought of this randomly..
