  1. I just was asking what it is vinyl material, I live in Italy and I have no idea on how translate that "word"!!! For clear epoxy, the one I could buy, is the slow setting epoxy selling Stew Mac. Will it be ok?
  2. Hi folks I have my clear acrylic vine inlay (Jem style) just cutted. The vine is for a neck I have to make for a swirled body. This is my first project. Not easy I live in Italy and here we call vinyl something other, can you tell me what material have I to use? I read the tut on 3D inlays but I don't understand exactly what it is. An advice about glue, it's a clear inlay so I think I have to use slow setting clear epoxy. Right? I am going for a rosewood fretboard (no ebony this time) maybe Bois de Rose or maybe simply eastern indian rosewood. What filler do you advise me in the case I would need it? For the stem I would go for a wood, I am still undecided about the kind of wood but what glue to paste it? Titebond or just the epoxy? Thanks to everyone!!! Gian
  3. They use mainly basswood. Almost every guitars are built with. A few models (like the oldest JEM 7VWH) are alder, the neck through models are mahogany - maple top. This is valid for RG and JEM series. Others I don't know.
  4. I have seen around the standard is to apply a white poly base coat for every swirl. I sealed the wood then I applied the base coat. Test how many paint you need. However it isn't too much. With test you will avoid any "hole" in the swirl. If you have some runs or bubbles, you always can sand down gently with 800 or 1000 grit.
  5. Yeah the price of Bill's pickups is low. I think I will go for a PAF Pro in the neck (I like some shred) and the 500XL in the bridge. What do you think about?
  6. Hi folks, I am still undecided on my configuration. I'm going for a guitar with 1 PC mahogany body with 3/16" maple top; maple neck with ebony fingerboard scale 25,5". Lo Pro Edge floyd rose. My candidates are: Seymour Duncan 59 neck Bill Lawrence 500XL or Di Marzio PAF Pro Di Marzio Superdistortion Modern rock oriented guitar.
  7. I mean that many people saying OFR sounds better than a Ibanez LoPro. I tried a Valley Arts of a my friend but I don't remember well the feel. If I would go for a FR I would buy an original floyd. I want to know if it is true the opinions on "OFR better than..." or only personal preference. I simply think Ibanez Lo Pro is one of the best tremolo system available. Gian
  8. Ok but there are folks saying floyd has a different sound, it sounds better and so on..... I would like to know if it is true or not. I have played guitar with floyd. A Valley arts of a my friend but I had not too much time to try. I remember few impressions.
  9. Hi folks I always played on LoPro Trem and 17" radiused fingerboards. I want to try an original floyd bridge on a compound radius fingerboard (10 - 16"). I have to make a new guitar and I'd like to hear your comments about. I'm still undecided. What are your advices? If I should choose the compound fingerboard, can I inlay a vine on it? Or is it difficult on pre radiused? Thanks Gian
  10. Hi folks I performed a search on the forum and I understood what it is. But now i want know a thing. On his site I seen pictures of Fender guitar, Gibson and acoustic. I can't understand how it can be applied to locking nut. I seen the Steve's comment, or does he use it only on his acoustic? How can I apply it on my guitar? I'm going to make my first JEM neck but I would like apply it on my Strat too. I took a trip on Earvana.com, maybe that is the short way for Strat. What do you think about? Thanks Gian
  11. Yes what we call purpleheart isn't the purple ebony of madagascar but a wood from South America. By the way I will try it (always ebony is but I like the idea of purple wood). Did you not try the "Bois de Rose" (madagascar rosewood) ?
  12. Ok thanks folks!!! I think to try it. I would try the purple ebony, what you call "purpleheart wood" or something like. It should change only for color, or not? And who tried Boise de rose (madagascar rosewood)? P.S. I live in Naples (Italy) here isn't so expensive black ebony. Gian
  13. Hi I seen on net many people use ebony for fingerboards. i'm going to make my first neck. i would try it (black madagascar ebony) but some guys told me its quality is no so good today, also it tends to shrink, causing back bow. Finally they don't recommend me to use ebony. Do you agree?
  14. It tends to absorb. Solid finish is the standard on basswood. If you want a stained top, try to look the tut on Brian on adding veneer. Bye Gian
  15. Hi folks I seen many AANJ Ibanez necks are 17" radius. So I thought Lo Pro bridge is too. right? My problem is this: I have to made a JEM neck but Stew Mac sells only 16" or 20" blocks. If I buy a 16" radius block can I have problems? I seen on Floyd rose site bridges have a 10" radius But have jackson and ESP necks 10" radius? I seen they have original floyd rose.
  16. Wonderful!!! We wait the completed guitar!!!
  17. Hi axemen now I'm ready to swirl my first body. I've it nice white covered with 2 part poly. Now I would know if exists a formula for coverage. I've an acrylic oil base enamel and I practiced with scraps but I didn't understand really how many paint I need for a body. Will there be a formula like oz/square-inch? Thanks Gian
  18. Hey guy look at this Link. You'll find each piece forming the vine inlay. Look also the page of the vine inlays.
  19. Hey guys I forgot an important question. I read that many people say for swirl it's better a poly urethane clear coat. Ok as white base coat can I use an acrylic spray can? After swirl with oil paint I think I will have not problems with poly clear coat!?!
  20. Yes, apply sanding sealer, sand, white base coat, sand, apply wax in any hole and guitar is ready for swirl. Read the replies to my post, always on swirl, for more infos.
  21. Ok thanks, I understood. But for the paint? What kind? Any brand name can I buy? Remember you, I must use cans and I live in Italy: many brands you said there aren't here.
  22. Hi guys I read many painting tutorial and I canned translate many words of supplies I need as sanding sealer, lacquer, enamel ecc. but one I can't: Primer!!! I have to start my paint's work but I don't know what is primer and which to buy!!! Can you help me trying to describe its use? I don't have a gun so I must use cans. I don't think I can find poly urethane in cans. So what do you raccomend me? Acrylic, water or nitro based? Thanks
  23. Ok now you've mentioned climate conditions and water temperature. I read around internet that water mustn't be cold water, right? Of course also not hot. And climate? I live in a damp place? Can I have problems?
