  1. yeh i know that stuff is deadly, thanks though. tonewise i geuss i'lll just have to try it i hope its ok. if not well i will be able to iron out the kinks in my design and the walnut will give me good practice. ps i also think cherry is somewhat piosonous to breath.
  2. it works pretty good id trade this to if anybody is interested. its an 8 track it has level meters for each channel and i have a remote for it and also the snakes to go to and from the mixer. 350$ takes it i also have a stand that also fits about 15 rack spaces below the reel to reel it works well. i'll throw that in for free. its not a piece of junk the stand looks good and the recorder works good! email me if interested thanks
  3. do you think a thickness planer can take it down to thickness if i take off thin amounts at a time ? i dont own a thickness sander but i do have a nice new dewalt thickness planner that works great! and the acoustic looks great by the way. as for the snake wood, ithink i'll use my 100 bucks for something else right now. if i messed up on the piece i would never forgive myself! and besides im new to building a whole instrument, ive only refervished them before. but eventually i will get some and use it, the prs web site has a nice snakewood necked mcarty on thier custom page you should check it out its the first and only snakewood neck ive ever seen.
  4. yo my landlord just gave me a slab of walnut that used to be a coffee table back in the 70s its been sitting in his shop for over 30 years! and the grain is awsome on it! its about 1.75 inches thick. and there is enough for about 4 bodies, man am i excited. hes not even charging me for it ,its free! i think i have the best landlord in the world! he lets me have part of his workshop, lets have free reign over his tools and now gives me walnut, and he gave me some teec (is that how you spell it?) i might use that for the fret board ,think it will work? all i need now is to find some quilted maple, any one know were i can get it on a limited buget? rye
  5. its a digitech gsp 2101 studio tube/guitar preamp. i got it on along with other stuff on a trade with a nighthawk. i dont use it but everything works, and its in good condition. i have the manual and i,m making a travel case for it, they are going for like 300-500 on ebay but i will sell it at a good price! or i will trade for some PA equipment ( like a powered mixer) email me if your interested,i also have other stuff i dont use that i could sell!
  6. man some of ya have a ton of gear! i'll have to use you as examples when my wife complains that i have to much stuff. heres what i got- amps- Mesa Boogie dc-5 combo fender 68 dual showman, that recently fried again! mid 80s carvin 100w head( the one steve via used) an old univox combo and two custom cabs made by mua! dark stained pine they look really good both are loaded with celestions guitars- prs custom mcarty soapbar, 61 SG , an old vantage LP that i customized with inlay work and body work, its awsome i'd put it up against any LEs paul out there!, 77 mustang, martin stinger, dano baritone, sigma acoustic, and a cheapy national acoustic. effects- all kinds, old 60s maestro phase shifter, 60s "italian" crybaby, rat, boss octave, ernie ball volume , digitech delay, ibanez stereo chorus, and some a-b pedals.
  7. hey my band is called ROOTED you cant have that name but i think CIB would be a cool name its short for Charlie In the Box i stole it from that stupid claymation movie with rudolf! i might use it for a record label name but heck if you use it first then i guess im out of luck
  8. ha if i had that kindda money i would buy a house or at least a vehicle thats less than ten years old!
  9. dude youve never seen an old fret board thats been played alot? ive seen many that have divits in between the frets from the string rubbing from doing bends and what not . even on the second fret ive seen some nasty divits, and that is with rosewood!
  10. hopefully one of us can find them, if i do i will make sure i post them so we all can enjoy! i would love to tear apart my prs and get the measurments but i am giging like every week its seems so i dont want to have it apart and have to do a show without it! my prs is my drug! i guess if youre gonna have an addiction guitars are the safe way to go!
  11. yah that was the next wood i was gonna ask about , any good places to get it? i cant seem to find it up in pa. and i will be sure to post some pics but i will have to learn how, i suck at computer stuff! rye
  12. i was thinkin it would be a good wood to use , its hard, dense, and it has a nice feel to it. and it would look great with some mop, abalone inlays in it!
  13. old heavy cadilacs = good old heavy les pauls= good i go with the motto= if its heavy its got to be good ! so dont worry about the weight !
  14. does anyone know where or how i could get all the specs on a mcarty? i am in the process of designing a hybrid mcarty meets mustang and it would be easier if i had thier caculations rather than tear apart my prs ! thanks
  15. as far as tonal qualities i find maple has a warmer sound compared to ebony wich is brighter. the mahogany would definetly look pretty cool but i'd be afraid that it would wear pretty quickly its considered a hard wood but you can dig into it with a finger nail quite easily.
  16. hey guys , im new to this site I really dig it! its very helpful! as for the Elm i would cut it to lengths for a body and you have to take wax and melt it over the "end grain" of the blanks , this will keep the blanks from "checking" (cracking along the grain length wise). up here in PA most of the luthiers ive talked to let the wood aclimate for up to five years! in the same temp and humidity if possible. but i know i am to impatient to wait that long so i would at least give it a good year of drying. good luck with your project. rye
