  1. I'm going to tattoo this to Kevan's forehead. He's been having a major fit over this and I've been telling him the same thing for roughly the entire 6 years that I've known him. There is no such thing as a "10A" top. Paul Reed Smith has *NEVER* claimed to have "10A" tops. The "10 Top" that PRS puts on their guitars refers to the "top 10% of PRS figured tops" this grading is for looks only and has nothing to do with sound. a "10" top might make a guitar sound worse than a guitar with a "1A" top. In conclusion a "10" top is a VERY GOOD LOOKING "5A" top. If anyone tells you differently they are lying.
  2. I don't know if this is still the case, but Yamaha actually advertised using Warmoth necks on their higher end Pacificas a couple of years back.
  3. Ironically I was just at the Depot picking up some paint for the office last night (yes, my wife and I are painting ghost flames on the walls. I love her so) and I was looking at those cans and on the side it says: "CAUTION: May cause slight ambering" Which for me is ok, 'cos my next project is going to be amber anyway, but you might want to check that out.
  4. I love you too, Dennis. Would you have been happier if I'd bought the natural quilt one? And also, I don't care what you say, I wanted the amber flame first.
  5. both my wife and I are guessing about 11 pounds, but I don't have a scale, so I can't weigh it properly. It's pretty dang solid. I'd be interested in knowing how thick the maple is on it, but it sounds spot on like you'd think a Les Paul would, so I'm not too concerned.
  6. I'm not a big fan of the pickup covers (which weren't in the picture online) but I think that they cut some of the shrillness of the ceramic magnets, making the pickups sound better. Other than that, I can't really complain about the looks at all. Even the headstock (which I thought would bug me) really doesn't bother me that much. I don't know how it stacks up against Gibsons and Epiphones, but taken on its own it's a VERY NICE guitar. The quality of the workmanship seems top notch, the playability (literally right out the box) is great, don't know how durable it's gonna me, but it's *SOLID* and *HEAVY* like a Les Paul should be. basically, I'm happy.
  7. That's weird, I see them fine. Oh well... http://mysticnegro.com/Agile/DCP_0579.JPG http://mysticnegro.com/Agile/DCP_0580.JPG http://mysticnegro.com/Agile/DCP_0581.JPG
  8. I was gonna buy this for myself for Christmas but I ended up spending all that money on my wife. So I got it yesterday instead... The flame isn't the super 10 Top* esq deal from the picture on their website, but it's a good 3A-4A IMHO. The neck is both norrower (boooo) and fatter (YAAAAAAAYYYY) than the Ibanez necks I'm used to, but it's thinner than my Epiphone neck (boooooo) really comfy. The pickups surprised me. I thought they'd be a lot more shrill, but they sound good and do a passable jazz tone. Overall, in less than 24 hours, I like it, I like it a lot. *Kevan always has a minor conniption whenever someone mentions "10 Tops" because there's no such thing as a "10A" top. This is true, the "10" in the PRS "10 Top" refers to the "top 10%, figure-wise, of PRS tops."
  9. the Wizard 2 is my favorite Ibz neck, but I still like something a little chubbier. For me a fatter neck just puts my hand in a more natural position than a thinner one does. Also I have WAY less fatigue.
  10. The higher end stuff I think is nice, but over-priced. Not BADLY over-priced, but overpriced nonetheless. I also hate the lack of finish options. Mostly I'm moving away because I don't find the necks comfortable anymore. I have big hands and a reoccurring case of tendonitis. Paper-thin necks aren't really comfortable for me and are sometimes just PAINFUL to play. Since I find I can play better/faster/longer with a fatter neck I'm checking out guitars with fatter necks (and my wife keeps goading me with new power tools to just build a guitar from the ground up, "What would you change about your favorite guitar?" she says...)
  11. I'm moving away from Ibanez guitars as a rule, but that second guitar is like my dream guitar (minus all of the holes in the body and all).
  12. You know how you spend half your time in the UK and half your time in Oz? If you buy a guitar instead of the ring you might never go back to Oz. Now this might be a good thing. The bad part is you'll spend your time in the UK recovering from massive trauma. The ring reduces the drama. Reducing drama is good.

  14. Well, fellow Ed, given that I have to get the lumber, cut it into boards (it's still in log form right now) and either find someone with a kiln or sit it in the garage for 2 years or so. I'm pretty sure that I'll have long-sinced mastered the art of patience by the time I actually would be able to build anything out of it.
  15. How hard is it to work with? One of my co-workers just cut down a tree in his back yard and he has some 18" long x 18" diameter pieces that he's trying to get rid of. I figure a couple of slabs of that stuf would be really nice to make a body and a coffee table or two out of. but if I'm going to want to kill myself after working with it....
  16. There could be strap sizes like cup sizes.... That being said, since each woman is different, my guitars bother the crap out of my wife as far as how they sit on her lap. "Daisy Rock guitars - Now available with A - DD cutouts"
  17. Sadly, you're only fueling my lust....
  18. I think, however, the deal is most people charge as much or more than he spent on the guitar ($300) to do it....
  19. A bound RG7 neck is Dennis' holy grail. If you can get him one, he'll name his next child after you.
  20. It's Geezer and a couple of relatively unknown guys. The first album (Plastic Planet) had Burton C. Bell from Fear Factory singing, the second (Black Science) has some guy who's name I can't remember, but who was dressed like Kid Rock on the album sleeve (this was pre-Kid Rock). On the drums in the studio is Deen Costranovano (sp?) who's in Journey right now but has played with Ozzy and, I think, Steve Vai in the past. Live drums are handled by Chad Smith, not from the Chilli Peppers but from my favorite never-got-a-break band, Anacrusis (He played on "Manic Frustrations" fire up KaZaa and download "Paint A Picture." He's pretty amazing). Chad/Anacrusis are from Geezer's U.S. hometown of St. Louis, so there you go, supporting local music.
  21. I used some paint I got from Wal-Mart. Since it had a helmet as the example I figured I'd be safe (and it's color changing too, wooo wooo). Yeah, ok, first off the cans are poorly designed. More paint comes out the top than comes out of the nozzle. I thought I might have just gotten a bum can but so far both the primer, the color-change and the completely unrelated can of black I bought have ALL shown this problem. Then the paint kept pulling off the helmet when I was masking off the flames, even though I let it sit for 24 hours in my bone dry, 90 degree garage for the better part of 36 hours. *sigh* I never had these problems with painting wood. I just hope that all the paint doesn't pull off when I unmask the flames tonight (if it doesn't the helmet is going to look bad ass).
