  1. thans for the advise mike. i have been looking over the body and the suggestions ive been given and i beileve the plan of action now is to round over the sides deep enough to remove the mistake but not cross over to the mahogany. ive scrapped the carved top idea because after much review and a test peice i came to the conclusion it is currently out of my league thank you for the advise and suggestions everyone. ill post pics of the finished result when i get there.
  2. Hey guys. i was wondering if this idea a freind and i have thought of is possible. im sure this has probably been done before. originality is getting harder to find lol. the idea is this: haveing a semi hollow guitar with one humbucker (Passive) and also throw in an acoustic pickup (not sure if it will be peizo or not). but the catch is this: can both pickups be wired to a 2 way switch and to the same jack? our idea is essentialy an electri/acoustic hybrid idea, made from a scrap guitar. i was just wondering if the pickups can wired this way?
  3. Thank you for all your help guys. yes i am an exreme newbie to guitar building. as for the chunk being ripped out so brutaly what happend was i was routing along with my template when all i heard was the wood crack, so i imediatly shut the router off and checked the damage and that is what i found. as for the questions about the painting i am sorry for my misleading and lack off info. My original plan was to paint the back body blank and neck black. the purple heart was being used as a top because i like the coloure and grain pattern. It was to remain purple. Sorry for my misleading information earlier but i would like to thank everyone fot there ideas and suggestions. i beileve i am going with the burst idea as mentioned above.
  4. thanks for the idea man however, im leaving the purpleheart purple. Therefore the fill would need to be purple as well
  5. Hey guys i have "slight" problem: I am making a Tele shaped guitar out of a peice of Mahogany and a peice of purpleheart for a top. However when routing the edge of the purpleheart flush with a template the router did this in the blink of an eye: does anyone on here know how i can possible save this peice because i would realy hate to start it over. P.s the purple heart is going to be the carved top peice. the body will be painted solid black along with the neck and the purple heart is being rubed with mineral salts and a U.V protectant. also the purple heart is alittle over 3/4" so it can be taken down some. any help would be greatly apreciated.
  6. Im 18 and am just graduating high school grade 12 and ive had long hair to my shoulderblades since grade 6. it started as a trend but then i got to lazy to realy go get it all cut off so i occasionaly get my girlfreind to trim it. its enough to ponytail when im woodworking or cooking lol.
  7. hey guys Fridge here. i havent been on here for quet some time because fo school exams and stuff. My cousin contacted me form thunderbay wondering if i could make here this guitar. or at least try:) however she also said that if it was to complex just to make a tele or strat. she wants this shape of body: but the catch is she wants it to be carved top such as a les paul and prefferably a tremolo system if budget allows. i told her i would see what i could do and so here i am consulting with the experts. My question is what do you guys think of this body as a carved top cosmeticly and sonicly being made from mahogany back and flames maple front.(being dyed purple) p.s she only wants 1 volume knob, 1 tone knob and input jack on the fron in same position as in the pic. all input would be greatly appreciated.
  8. thanks for the info man ill definatly give it a shot. we dont have a store like the one you mentioned in my town but i have a place in mind that may help. thanks alot. it is greatly appreicated
  9. Hey guys. its been a while since my last post ive been busy with school and band stuff. i have a question about painting my headstock. the neck is a maple neck i bought at my local guitar store from a kit that had missing parts. my question is this: i have just finished puting the last layer of Black Paint on it. the paint has small rainbow like flakes in it. its Dupli-Color Effects paint. i was wondering if i could use a silver or gold Gell Pen or similer to right a logo or my name on it then put the clear coat. is this possible and if not what is an alternative aside from a laser printer? (i dont own one) any help is gratel appreciated thanks
  10. Who me gripe? Never... I would build a V copy out of it.... soon you will get enough guitars in your arsenal to get around to building the V. Then you will know the real power of not being able to sit while playing! I like the wood. Looks nice. Keep us posted. lol my first build is a jackson king v styled body. im actualy finding it fairly simple in terms of shaping the body/
  11. hhmmmm very interesting. well this morning i finaly got around to finishing the routing of the tremolo bridge placement and pickup placement and aside from lots of sanding left to do its basicly ready for finishing.mind you i have to spend the next million years sanding for a good finish lol my dad came up with a cool idea though for a finish. he said he onse seen a car with black paint that had small dark red metalic flakes in it and he though it would make a kewl finish and so do i. and being a V made for metal and more agressive music it seems to suit it nicly. picks will be up when first coat or 2 are completed
  12. thank you for all the help guys it is greatly appreciated:) i will post pictures of the finished product once i can find my camera lol.
  13. p.s the second picture is older. it was taken before round over routing and neck routing. it was jsut a size comparison picture to my current guitar.
  14. thanx for the advise DaDovfor i will definity give it a try. heres a picture of the guitar so far: keep in mind this is ust an experiment with a realy old cuttingboard(yes cuttingboard!!) that i got for free lol.: http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm28/Fr...um/DSCN1520.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm28/Fr...um/100_1986.jpg
  15. thanx guys. i didnt know leo used automotive paint. i should prolly brush up on my guitar luthier history lol. i will post pics of my "experiment"
  16. im currently building a king V shaped guitar and was wondering if it were at all possible to paint the guitar using primer, automotive paint, then laquer? this may seem like a stupid question but i've searched on this forum and could not find much advise so i just thought i would ask becuase i was thinking of using the left over paint my father was using on his mustang. . Its a black with metal flakes in it to make it look all shiny and pretty any advise would be greatly appreciated. feel free to critizes my idea as well becuase i am a total noob to doing finishes and realy wish to learn different ideas and techniques.
