  1. thats a good point/idea having so many choices sure can be confusing especially comparing prices of different models with actual differences as for "limiting prices to a moderate number" im sure G & F would rather keep offering you a huge array of basicaly identical guitars and charge more barstards
  2. "How do you account for the soaring sales of Suhr, Tom Anderson, Sadowsky, Grosh, DeTemple?? " i dont. ive only ever heard of them on this site. "Guitarists tend to be traditionalists.. moreso than bassists.. That's why the top dogs in boutique bass building are all originals.. tobias, thompson, f-bass, etc.. Bassists are much more accepting of a beautiful instrument regardless of the name or look." maybe im suposed to be a bassist then, "because i can accept a beautiful instrument regardless of looks" whatever that means "The bottom line is for the builder to build what they love and seek perfection in that." damn right, each man to his own i dont mean to sound so patronising just a difference of opinions i guess
  3. has anyone played a baritone in standard tuning? i guess it sort of defeats the purpose of a baritone (unless ur mastermind) i think i have reasonably large hands (27cm (10 1/2") span ) and i have no problem with my hand hitting anything maybe trying to changing ur technique would be an easier solution or maybe i dont have big hands i dunno
  4. whichever way you go i think building strat clones is about the most limiting thing you can do in terms of guitar building sure there are variations on the theme but if i ever buy a strat style guitar it will be a fender i think "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" sums it up well i understand that strat style gats are probably the best selling guitars but if i were to pay good money for an obscure handmade guitar i sure as hell wouldnt want it to look like every other guitar even if it had exotic wood, pickups, etc. all that said i still do like strats style gats i have dreams about building/selling my own guitars one day in the same way as you want to( i just dont blurt them out and look silly) but i want to have more unique shapes, construction, etc i think alot of the reason people opt for botique gats is their uniqueness thats my thoughts any ways
  5. stoned/drunk bucket/bong beer/bourban jimi/jimmy (hendrix/page) some silly/gross ones pads/ tampoons soft/hard ****/vaginal spit/swallow maybe i went to far
  6. yeah emgs crank very hot, exellent harmonics best string definition ive heard. full distorted 6 string chords easy (no mud) some people might tell you they are one dimensional and dry well dave gilmore of pink floyd uses emgs (not 81or85s though) and i dont think many people would dare say his tone is one dimensional or dry
  7. theres no way in hell she'll be able to play seek and destroy hammers/pulls seem really easy to ppl who can play but when u watch a 10 year old girl try them they look very very hard as for the solo sepul are u learning it from tab or by ear? im to lazy to wrk things out so i have alot of tab books including kill em all either way dont move on to the next section until u have really nailed the current one or u will learn it halfasses and stumble through it makeing alot of mistakes (like i used to) also if you start learning it and you know the notes well but just cant get the speed try a different solo go back to it later. i used to learn lots of solos way outta my league and go over and over them trying to get them up to speed but never could. a few months after i would go through them and nail them 1st time and regret wasting my time trying to learn them earlier theres alot more satisfaction in playing an easy solo really accurately than playing hard one poorly also you look pretty stupid doing a fast one badly. allot of people wont notice but other musos will and they will probably be the people whose opinions you care about the most hope this helped
  8. ive seen that but thanks anyway the most helpful thing in that it says its similar to mahogany(im assuming hes implying its similar to honduran) but id like to see a more in depth comparision
  9. marzo root + 5th= power chord reagardless of the octave monkey yeah ill give puple haze a try (just worked out super easy way) so far all ive been doing is showing her new songs, going though songs ive allready shown her, correcting her, trying to show her good technique(or what i think is good technique) and trying to play things together to improve her timing eg she likes to plays Em open string arp of nothing else matters while i play melody or i play chords to crazy little thing called love d - dsus4 while she played the melody F# -G (ill show her the full chords when shes up to it) she tries to play in time but does go out of time sometimes and i usually adjust to put her back in time. im thinking now that i shouldnt do this maybe i should play in ridgid timing and try to make her adjust into time i just dont know any more help at all is much appreciated cheers
  10. i saw dave matthews band play on rove (aussies letterman) and they had a guy holding an electric violin like a gat and plcuking it it sounded quite good very interesting sound the song was called american baby if u wanna download it but i cant tell u weather its on the studio version but id say it is
  11. i dont think ill go with emgs ive allready got some and since ive got nickel hardware i wanted to get pickups that i can get nickel covers (and coz dimebag uses em) i saw on the bill laurence sit u can get nickel covers but i couldnt find any pics does anyone have a link or a pic or just explain to me what the L500 nickel cover looks like please i just ordered a router bit with a bearing for using with a template they only come with a 1/4" 6mm or 1/2 12mm shank(got the 6mm) and the dick who i bought the router off of trademe (nz ebay) advertised it with a 6mm and 8mm collets but it only came with the 8mm and i dont think they make replacment parts on such a cheap brand so now im stuck with a useless router and all i can do is hassle him by email and place bad feedback it seems noone seems to know anything about the tonal qualitys of sapele mahogany ive only seen it on guitar washburn the shadow fall guitarist signature gat. but ive also heard gibson use it on their guitars when they're running low on honuran supplies or just want more profit this seems beleivable to me because on gibson.com they dont usually specifiy exact wood type they just say mahogany. dont u think that if they were using the more superior wood (honduran) they would say "honduran mahogany"? i know i sure as hell would . im confused
  12. i just listened to the meshed song of bobd and that oasis song yeah it is a pretty blatent ripoff and no i dont teach people how to wank over acdc (not quit sure what that means) but i do think acdc is one of the greatest bands of all time i showed her that song because i was playing it when she turned up and she recognised it and said she liked it . i think learning songs you know/like motivates a person to practice more
  13. ive allready taught her smoke on the water is free bird G C D C ? havent heard it in a long time she cant play three finger chords yet im sure boelevard of broken dreams is a rip off on a thousand songs E G D A (with capo) hardly the most original progression thanks for all the help keep it coming
  14. ive just started teaching my first student about 1 1/2 months ago a ten year old girl (gotta start somewhere) what ive taught her so far shes into punk unlike me greenday boelevard of broken dreams blink 182 dammit acdc highway to hell bob dylan knocking on heavens door ccr down on the corner (bassline) and a couple others i showed her the easiest way/part possible to play them she cant play power/bar chords i havent bored her with any theory till its more important she comes twice a week for 1/2 an hour usually ends up an hour though her father is the biggest hendrix fan and wants her to be the next jimi (he insisted on twice a week) ive never had a teacher myself so i dont know a awful lot about teaching what are some really easy good songs for an absolute begginer ? any other teaching tips would be helpful cheers fergus

  16. so what is proper moisture content? is 12% allright?
  17. yeah its not the final design the curves that meet the neck will come further up the neck to about the forteenth fret im left handed so it will be on the opposite to normal i would like to do an AANJ but ill cross that bridge when i get to it
  18. im in a similar predicament (cant get hold of template type bit) i read the thread and realised i had on of those "things" from what i red it seems u guys must use a bigger diameter bit than the template guide (hence the undersizing of the template) i have a plunge router with a dodgy clamp thing (the thing that holds it in the plunged down position) so if my clamp thing fails the bit is gunna spring up into the guide and do some damage so i think ill use a smaller bit and oversize the template also why not use a bit with same diameter as template guide so u dont haveto resize the template if this was posible im sure someone would have thought of it. so i have a feeling ive got the wrong idea on the whole concept does someone wanna post a pic please PLEEAAASE i dont wanna fork out bulk for a router bit with the bearing for no reason cheers fergus
  19. first attempt at pics of my current (and first ) gat hope they work 1st pic; neck and body shape plan (necks from a cheap strat copy but its the nicest guitar ive ever played in terms of action and inotation, horrible sound though) 2nd is my first scallop job.used $2 shop files in pic 3rd is better shot of paua inlays i did myself neck still needs cleaning up pic1pic2pic3 the plan so far tom bridge (ressesed no neck angle) gotoh machine heads body wood; had my heart set on honduran mahogany but cant find a supply here in nz only sapele. how inferior is it to honduran? the idea for this guitar was a classic lp sort of tone. but once i thought about the body shape i thought well i dont want to go though the hassle of building a body if looks just like every other guitar so i came up with this shape (based vaugely on dime bags gat) then i thought that the shape would suit a metal sort of sound but i sort of have that base covered with my rg with emg 81/85s now i cant decide on pickups asides from i want coil splitting all sugestions welcome
  20. prepare to be sicker sapele is 15 nz dollars per metre for 50mm x 300mm (2"x12") 3 metre min but smaller peices on occasion $1 us= approx 73cents nz not from a luthier supplier though i have seen it no knots or anything

  22. found cheap rosewood but checked botanical name against pinned post bout tonewood and they are different pined post rosewood = dalbergia .... nz supplier = peterocarpus indica from png and solomon Is wot to do wot to do
  23. im in a similar position as u digi i was asking timber suppliers for mahogany and they allways said "yep we got sapele mahogany" i did some research and now i think sapele isnt real mahogany botanical names; sapele = Entandrophragma Cylindricum honduran mahogany =Sweitenia Macrophylla now i dont know if i should settle for sapele "mahogany" or keep looking for honduran (in vein probably, theres not much selection in a small country like nz ) anyways sorry i was much (any) help if u do decide to use the sapele post about the tone cheers
