  1. Center line and double checking perfect 45 degree angle on the blocks
  2. Yes all were within 1/16” of being 1 3/4” thick. There were a few pieces that had some figured maple tops, bocote, wenge etc so the back will have less color.
  3. 30 minutes with belt sander and orbital sander and top is flat. Wet down with mineral spirits for a pic
  4. Or with my remedial Paint skills, a hybrid of both
  5. I also like the Peavey Wolfgang 3x3 headstock too
  6. Played around on the computer this morning and came up with a rough modified Musicman style headstock. 3x3 instead of 4x2
  7. Going through my neck lumber and decided on some darker woods that I feel would complement the body best. Black walnut neck blank and cocobolo fretboard. Due to the length of this neck blank I’ll have to go with a 3x3 or 4x2 headstock shape. I originally drew out a Snake head Tele type headstock shape on this blank
  8. Puzzle complete. Just need to epoxy some pieces. For this last round I’ll use rubber bands vs clamps due to all the body curves
  9. So you can kinda tell in this pic. See the racing stripe looking block. That’s part of the cutoff curve and I set it up against the edge for a straight edge to glue the little pieces on the other side
  10. I should have taken pics of the clamping and gluing but basically I started gluing up 3 or 4 blocks at a time then I’d glue a couple of the larger pieces together, so on and so forth. I saved the curved cutoff pieces so I had a straight edge to glue the largest pieces together
  11. I just added up all the species of wood: Alder Ash Basswood Black limba Black walnut Bocote Cedar Mahogany Maple (plain, flame and quilt) Padouk Pine Poplar Purple Heart Wenge
  12. I had just bought a brand new mitre saw so with the new blade, hardly no tear out to speak of.
  13. Almost done. Got a few more pieces gluing and drying to fill in last gaps
  14. Just for fun thought I’d show the only other multi laminate body I ever made. In comparison to this adventure, not too difficult
  15. Very cool. Probably stating the obvious but this has been the most labor intensive body I’ve ever made. Totally worth it when it’s finished though
  16. Cut away some excess to see shape so far. Everything pictured is glued together.
  17. Finally more cutting and gluing and gluing and cutting
  18. Not a lot of work done except for gluing up small size pieces. Goal will be to resurface the new pieces and arrange them how I like
  19. More pieces cut this afternoon including some figured maple pieces I had already stained, so we’ll see how they look after sanding back
  20. All my pieces are 1 3/4” thick so wont be the exact same as the example. I’m also going to use epoxy vs wood glue, then after sanding, seal the whole body with super glue and epoxy.
  21. Yes the original is super cool. I can only hope to put together my pieces as nicely as that builder.
