  1. My vintage ones say 1B on the back so mabye they are the vintage ones...  If so than I can say they sound amazing!

Thanks for the clarification. They did sound great, they were just in a project turned bad. I've got too many others going now for other set ups to be using these.

I've had a lot of questions, so if anyone is interested, act fast!

  2. I'm selling two Seymour Duncan P90 soapbar pickups for $60 and will ship them to you for free.

Which SD P90's are they? There are 3 versions in the Harmony Central Database, not sure if there are more than that.

    Jeff

All they say on the back is Seymour Duncan. There's a 1B and 1N for bridge and neck, but I don't know if the 1 means anything. They weren't too hot, so I don't think they'd be that model. Probably vintage is what they sounded like.

  3. Wow. Great wood in that top.

I agree with all the comments. I would have probably been a little gentler, but good job taking all that criticism and not having a hissy. :D

I think you've got a great eye for picking out wood, I just think that with your body styles, the headstocks are all wrong. I think its time you made your first neck, or start buying necks with paddle headstocks.

I also agree that if you are not going to do a time proven design, that you should prototype the body AND neck and see how they go together. Post some pics here and get some feedback.

Man, I really like the top on that twisted SG, care to share your wood source?

It was off the Bay, but I can't recall the source. I'll try to go back and look at my account and see if I have the record. I really just did a "spalted maple" key word search. I've found awesome stuff looking for "figured maple" too.

  4. Actually, Marksound, it is a Washburn N1 neck. Good eye.

Thanks again for all the feedback. I'm going to take it all in. I'm completing a hollowbody right now, and I just got some lacewood and a killer maple top to start another solid body (I'll start another thread for that one to avoid this problem), so I may take some time getting to the refurb on this thing.

  5. Thanks for the comments. Yeah, the semi hollow neck really doesn't go with it, but I liked the way the neck felt so much, that I sacrificed with the headstock. The Mohog was my first real attempt, so I did leave a little too much material in that upper horn. I'll try to see what I can do with the spalted maple.

Thanks for all the constructive criticism.

    Best building.

  6. Thanks for all the comments. I was thinking of shaping each curve to a point. Then it would be much more metal looking. Kind of like a BC Rich Warlock. The neck is a Washburn N1 I believe, and I liked the way it felt, so I tried to make it work with this body idea.

I really don't want to scrap the body before I try to rework this.

Let me know if you think the Warlock idea is a good one.

It's hard to believe it from the way this one looks, but I made these other two first.

  7. Guys, I need some help. I really don't like the way this turned out. I had an idea for a kind of twisted SG looking guitar, but I don't like the end result. Any ideas? The sound is what I wanted with P90 pickups, so that's not the problem, simply aesthetics.

It has a spalted maple top with a black walnut back. The top was brushed laquer and the walnut was rubbed with tung oil.

  8. Long time for progress, but I've been traveling a lot for work and I'm getting married in about a month. I'm trying to get this done by the wedding and play something for my new wife with it.

Here's a link to a slideshow of the progress so far:

I need to trim a little more around the neck pocket, and then I'm going to thin out the top by about 1/4", right now it's 1/2" thick.

I'll get some braces for it and then glue it to the body. More pics to follow.
