  1. You do NOT go to Guitar Center for repairs. I'm sure there are good builders/repairers dotted around NY, but since I don't live there, I'm of no help.

I've never seen a GC that does repair work in house. Most can't even do a proper setup in house. They, like most other music stores, outsource to a local shop that specializes in repairs. Ask who they use/suggest and check on them yourself.

True, I asked the Guitar Center in Little Rock, who did their repairs, and they send them to a local repairman, no in house, which kinda suprised me.

the guitar center near me actually does the repaurs a tech comes on tuesdays only. i doubt they could repair the finish though.

  2. High dollar guitar, spend the coin to get it fixed properly.

Or, if you want to be cheap mix a little fresh *dewaxed* shellac (from flakes) and pad it over the area. Smooth will a little 00000 steel wool or high grade wet or dry, and buff by hand. This will seal the wood and allow a future repairer to spray nitro without any adhesion problems.

Don't use KTM or ready mixed or waxy shellac; the instrument is too pricy to use cutprice DIY solutions.

any idea how much it would cost to have it professionally done? or where i could have it done? guitar center is about the only place near me that does repairs. im in ny

    thanks, Adam

  3. hi i have a fender eric clapton strat with a maple neck. on the back of the neck the finish has worn down in 3 spots to the wood so it feels rough when u play. the neck is finished in a clear natural finish, im not sure what type though. was wondering if i could fix it with some leftover ktm9 ( water based lacquer from lmii) or some shellac. im not all the concerned about it matching cosmetically just want a smooth neck.

    thanks, Adam

  6. how does popular compare to alder. i know popular is cheap wood. j paid 139 for the body did i get ripped off?

    Adam

I have read that poplar has tonal qualities similar to alder. There's nothing wrong with it, I'm using it for my Tele project and PRS uses it also for some of their guitars.

thanks popular is greenish i read while alder is tanish. the wood is very pale almost matches the finish. i hope its alder

  7. Cheap, cheap, cheap, plywood body...the works. But for that price, can't go wrong. Even the standard MIM strats are trash so you're probably in okay shape.

Expect to do a setup! :D

kinda off topic but i just bought a fender mim alder strat body i was gonna use it as the fondation of my next project an eric clapton strat clone. is it that bad of a body?

    Adam

Not really, the rest of the guitar's parts are simply not very good. The MIM standard strat (not Squire) should be real wood. But, it maybe routed poorly so be careful and measure frequently. :D

what ya mean routed incorectly? like the pickup cavity and bridge cavity? sorry im off topic

  9. My 7 year old son is learning to play the classical guitar. I thought it would be fun to learn along side him as we practice every morning. I build cabinets and furniture for my day job and have always thought that it would be cool to make an instrument. Which brings me to my call for help. I would like to buy a kit guitar and also some good books on how to build a classical guitar. Having a shop with both power and hand tools would allow me to get a kit that was slighty less finished. I would rather pay more for a kit that had better wood then one that was more finished. Thanks for all your help.

lmii.com sells kits im pretty sure

  10. Might it not have been an idea to remove the body blank from it's wrapping? People are keen to see more than 20% of things they are buying!

yeah probablly but im super allergic to padauk hence why im not using it. the one plank is dented in one corner about an inch or to in length . wouldnt be a problem making a body from it though.

  12. I'm very sorry to say but you're getting dam annoying with all the new threads you start about those PRS guitars you want to build/buy/modify and which you end up never doing what people suggest you do anyways. You ask for help and you always end up doing/buying something else and beginning a new thread about it :D

    Back to topic:

Why would you want to know what it's worth? Are you selling it again? If it's worth $0 or $9000 would it play or sound any better?? Just buy/build the guitar you want and you like and play it. If you want to go buying and selling then I suppose eBay is a better place for you :D

BTW I have nothing against you as a person because I don't lnow you B)

Warn me or band me for this comment, but I guess there are more people who think the same!

thats not true i actually did the majority of the stuff i asked about or bought the stuff i asked about. im still dont understand if u dont like my threads why do u read them? its not like anyone is forcing you to.

  13. It's worth about as much as you paid for it, if not a little less. It's just a CE with an "AS" stamped beside the neck plate and a little of playing wear. Personally, I would have spent another $100 and picked up a new CE, but that's just me :D

PRS regularly gives their top employees guitars for special bonuses or whatever. They'll usually take 'em out of their loaner stock, or "artist stock", which means there's nothing really that rare or special about them, other than they MAY have been played by an endorsee at some point and returned.

Every once in a while one will pop up on the 'bay from an employee who's trying to cash out their "perfect attendance award". CE's are usually handed out to those guys because they're the bottom of the line guitars. You have to do something really good to get a Custom or McCarty. If I were one of the attorney's that put the kibosh on the Gibson suit, I would have happily accepted partial payment in the form of a 513 or a Modern Eagle. Maybe a Dragon Private Stock?

it has a flame maple top and last time i checked a ce24 new was $1900 at musiciansfriend.
