  1. What strings do you use? I wanted a high A on top, but it broken as soon as I tighted it.
  2. What do I do after my last coat of clear, just buff it?
  3. Walmart didn't have it. I checked Home Depot again, and they don't have it. They do have 400 grit. It's the highest I found so far. Auto parts store didn't have anything fine, either. I don't know if there is an Ace hardware around me, I also don't know where a machine shop is. I'm going to check Napa and an auto body store after I get out of school today, but right now, I'm in my ASP class.
  4. I'll have to check out Steven Kersting. Custom wound pickups seem like a good idea. Think I should get silver, gold, or black pickups? I have some silver pickup covers, and found some gold ones cheap on eBay. I want to stay with the vintage look.
  5. I need pickups for my 1963 semi-hollow body. Something for blues or jazz. Any recommendations?
  6. I was looking at Home Deopot and Lowe's and neither one had 1500 grit sandpaper. They had nothing over 320. Where do you get it at? Even 1000 grit would be good.
  7. What about the slots for the strings? Would I file it down, then make new slots?
  8. I can't find one that's the size I need. What's a good place to try?
  9. I want to refinish my Epiphone acoustic, but I want it to be black. How would I do that without it sounding dead? Also, the body right now has light sanding scratches. How smooth does it have to be, should I sand it with finer grit paper before starting to refinish it, or just leave it the way it is?
  10. It's Valspar Interior/Exterior High Gloss Protective Acrylic Finish. The clear is the exact same, just high gloss Ultra Clear. Should I use it? Will sanding the shiney red make it look stupid when I add clear?
  11. I was going to build my own cabs. I started talking to people who were really good at it and they were talking about the 9 or 11 ply wood, and all the other crap that makes it sound good. Then how to build the box with all the fancy things to make it strong. Then they listed all the good speakers, and there was no way I could build my own cab for the price of just buying them and paying $300 in shipping. I even looked at cheap wood, and the cheapest speakers possible buying in bulk to make 12 4-12" cabinets and I still couldn't get the price lower than just buying them.
  12. I need a nut for my Ephiphone. I bought one, but it's way too big. I need one that's 1-5/8" long, 1/4" tall and thick. Anyone know where I could get one at?
  13. It's red, but it's not automotive. Should I clear it, or just buff it?
  14. I need to refinish my Epiphone acoustic. The neck broke, so I glued it back together. The problem is you can feel the crack. If I fill it, it's going to be obvious it was broken. It's obvious now. I was thinking about filing it, then painting it because the guitar has already been sanded. It's no longer shiney. Would I just paint it the way it is now, or would I prime it? I don't want too thick of paint. Would it be better just to shoot a coat of clear, sand it until it's a littly scuffy, then refinish it? The guitar itself was natural wood color. When the clear was sanded off it, there is little scratches, but they can only be seen while holding it at the right angle under light. Should I try to sand that completely smooth before clear coating, or is it better that way so the clear sticks? I just don't want the clear to magnify the scratches.
  15. I painted a guitar with a high gloss paint. I think I'm done with the paint coats now, but should I sand it before putting on clear, should I just spray the clear, or should I just leave it alone because it's already shiney? If I should sand, what grit should I use?
  16. My friend wanted an acoustic guitar, but he wanted a good one. He plays an Epiphone Explorer and dropped it several times where it's missing chunks from the corners. Appearance isn't too important to him. I got this acoustic with the finish sanded off. There is some sanding scratches in the wood, would I be able to cover those up with paint, or should I sand it with fine grit paper before I try to paint? I'm not even sure I want to paint it. It looks pretty good the way it is. The only It's missing a nut. The person I bought it from is going to get one Monday for me. The only thing I'm concerned about is the neck. The fretboard has some cracks, I'd guess you'd call it. At the top coming half way down to the first fret is some cracks. They don't all the way through the wood, just on the surface. Also, the fretboard either curled up, or the neck moved back and it's starting to crack along the sides. What should I do about that? I don't know if my friend would care about the crack, just as long as it was treated, so it won't keep growning. Should I just show some glue in it and clamp it? If I wanted to make it look better, what should I do. sand it and stain it?
  17. My friend was looking for an acoustic, but he's cheap. We found a good deal on an Epiphone acoustic, but the finish has been taken off, so it's not shiney at all. We were thinking about just clearing it, but then we kinda wanted it to be either black or red, so how hard would it be to re-finish it? Is it just like doing an electric guitar, or do we have to do something special?
  18. Where is a good place to buy speakers? I need some for a guitar cabinet and some PA cabinets. They don't have to be all that great.
  19. That Ryan guy is pretty sweet. I don't know if you looked at his website, http://www.RyanFormato.com, but he's better than all the teachers around here.
  20. If anyone is looking for some money, http://www.iMusicLessons.com is looking for teachers..........if anyone sucks and needs lessons, lessons start October 1st.
  21. If I have 4 single coil DiMarzios, can I make them into 2 humbuckers? If I can, how hard would it be?
  22. Stew Mac is $10.77 and Musicians Friend is $15.94. Is there any other place cheaper than Stew Mac? And how do I know which one I need?
  23. I just bought a Washburn 7 string with a Floyd Rose. It was cheaper than an Ibanez with a Flyod and it was new. The only problem is it didn't come with the arm. I'm kinda mad. Anyone know where I can get a black arm?
  24. About the one coat, I lightly misted. It dried really quick, so I would mist everything, then go back because I didn't completely cover it, and by the time I misted everything, the first part was dry. I misted about three times. I just call it one coat. It's still not much paint, but it's not real even. The part that I sanded down to the primer matches some other parts. Is this going to eventually get even, or is the whole misting plan a bad idea? If I paint, not mist, two more coats, then sand, will that even things out?
