  1. Well i haven't updated this thread in awhile. So anyway whilst i was in the process of buffing out the s/c i had abit of a rubthrough to the bare timber so i have had to respray the area! I was hoping to assemble the guitar today for a gig i have tomorrow night. "The Deadbeats" first wedding! But it will now need to cure for at least two weeks before i can put it together. Nevermind. So in the meantime i have done abit of work on the d/c. I had to chamber the body quite heavily due to the weight of the spotted gum. It was upto 5kg including the neck and top so its had abit of internal surgery! You will notice a raised area in the top left of the body to allow abit of thickness for the ribcage carve on the back. I did all this routing freehand as i really didnt think it was necessary to make a template. ( Yeah i know lazy bas***d) The top is on the geewah now so its no big deal! Ive also changed the shape somewhat. Brought it in at the waist and trimmed a little off the hips. Before After I much prefer the shape of the d/c now, although, if i make another one like this i will definately add more length to the overall guitar. Someone asked early on in the thread about the stability of the spotted gum... Well this body and the neck has been sitting in a tin shed all summer with a temperature varying from 40 degrees celsius during the day to 10 DC at night and it has not moved a millimeter. As with the neck still straight as an arrow so im thinking its safe to say its well dry and stable. Anyway enough yabbering back to the workshop for me!
  2. Fair call! I knew there would be some reason why you guys have not done it yet! So why then does vibes say to move it up the fretboard? Their design is obviously individual drivers for each string or much more compact. Is there a link to vibes sustainer so i can have a look? Chad.
  3. Hey guys! I have been interested in a sustainer for awhile but alot of the stuff you guys are talking about flys way past me. But in Davids quote here he says that vibesware say to move the driver up the fretboard to reduce squealing and howling. Now this may have already been said as i have not read every page here, but is it possible to make a driver that is relatively flat and inlay between your last frets? Say in between the 21-22 etc. This is just from an outside looking in. You can tell me im a fool if you like and that it will not work its just a thought really. Chad.
  4. Just a quick question! If you wire a p/u reversed(eg. Hot to ground and ground to say your volume pot or wherever its headed next) is that called out of phase or does it not matter which way the signal passes through a p/u? And if it is wired that way will it change the sound of the p/up? My guess is that it should not matter which way the signal passes through as its just a coil of wire around a magnet? Im no expert though so i thought i would ask all you clever kids! Cheers Chad.
  5. Here Jules try this fella on ebay. I buy all my pickups from him and if he doesn't have them in stock he can get them in! http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/RAMMSTEIN88...tem330279013557 Ive never had a problem with him and all my parts come in two days!
  6. Wow that firefly pcb looks sick! I may even have to give it a go. One thing to remember with attenuators, if you are driving your tubes pretty hard it will reduce tubelife even if the output (volume) is low.
  7. Nice work metalhead! Super neat and tidy and i really like that shape. I reckon your friend will be pleased!
  8. Their just plain shite! Look at it! Look at the guy modelling it! Pete maybe you should write a formal letter to gibson asking them to explain their actions all those years ago! Maybe someone in the design team was on crack?
  9. I just think your all crazy! I will be watching all this though to see if any of you can make something of this!
  10. Nice build ledz! I think i like the back more than the front!haha im really digging the heal, i think it looks really comfortable to play. Im not a huge fan of the headstock, but whatever floats your boat! Good work!
  11. So i haven't updated this thread in awhile but i have basically finished the s/c. Just finishing the final coats of clear on the neck and headstock. But i have a problemo. When i sprayed clear on the neck around the heal i have had a little spot go white. Has anyone had this problem before? and what is it? My guess is to just scrape the finish of this area away and see what it is. There was no visual spot there before the spraying so its got me stumped! Any help would be much appreciated! Looking good! so this one will be curing for a couple of weeks before the final buffing and im gonna get to work on the d/c!
  12. I'm liking it in the blue photo now. I prefer the way its abit stretched from the waist and the lower horn is abit more compact. What program do you use to make your designs metalhead?
  13. I agree with avengers that it doesn't jump out, but i do like it! I think its a great design. The butt end kind of reminds me of an aliens head. At the end of the day you build a guitar for yourself and if you like it, build it. The thing i have found with my short existence in building is that during the process you figure out what works and what doesn't and once the guitar is complete and you have played it for a while you definately know what works. Goodluck!
  14. Here is my first. Someone said it before about a few cosmetic issues with theirs, this is the same with mine. I feel now that i over finished it too but you live and learn. Other than that though it is my main guitar and i play it at all my gigs.
  15. As with most months all the builds were great! but... + 1 for swedish! Carousel nearly got the vote for me but i just like everything about the northstar so i couldn't go past it. Nice build Avengers your builds are getting better and better, i hope the owner loves it!
  16. Yeah Dick Smith p****d me off too but not as much as it did you!haha Im pretty sure we have an altronics and jaycar over here. I think their in the city. Cheers Pete im sure i will be asking some questions!
  17. Thanks Pete. Im finding dick smiths to be really poor of late when it comes to actual electronic components, every time i have been in there lately there stock has been down and not only that it is all jumbled up so its hard to know what values are what on some of it. Anyway just a whinge. I do have a major weakness for teles. Im hoping when i go on my big world trip next year ill have enough money to stop into the fender factory and pickup a tele direct from them. Im off to the sustainer thread, wish me luck!
  18. Hey Pete, This guitar is sweet mate. I happened to have a quick peek before underbelly started last night and i was fairly excited to check this thread out this morning. I just listened to the sound clips and they are brilliant. Im usually one to keep things simple on guitars cause to many knobs and switches scare me, but after hearing the tracks i'm really impressed. I may have to go back to the sustainer thread now and try and understand it! Where abouts do you get your electronic components from in oz? Keep playing that guitar Pete cause its one of the best tele's around i reckon! Cheers Chad.
  19. Hey, Well im back from Perth and have got some work done on the s/c! I wasn't sure if this guitar was gonna be a set neck or a bolt on but i routed the neck pocket today and have gone with the setneck option. I don't know if anyone else gets excited when the neck and body meet but its a special moment i think! Neck joint. Also got the p/u cavities routed. Front shot Had abit of a tearout in the corner of the neck p/u cavity but it shouldn't be a problem. Looking down guitar So im hoping to get the neck shaped, binding on the top glued and holes drilled for the Bridge, tailpiece and other controls done this weekend. Hopefully glue the neck in and start to finish this one early next week as i have been offered a 3 week stint up north in the mining towns building houses starting the end of feb.
  20. I don't see why not. As long as you have the equipment to slice a thin veneer. I have recently being looking around for good timber suppliers and have met a couple of guys who have some wicked jarrah in their yards. Burls, curls and all sorts of figure. Its just a matter of getting to it!
  21. Got a bit more done today. Binded the bottom side of the s/c. Didn't take a pic of that until i do both sides. Gonna wait till i rout the neck pocket before i do the front edge. Reshaped the d/c today. Not sure if im entirely happy with it yet. I feel it needs a little more off the hips now and probably abit off the sides of the butt! The more i look at it the more i like it though.Looks better with the neck. Don't mind the Japanese workboots. Decided to have a crack at the ribcage carve on the back. Is that what you call it? No progress for awhile i think now. Have to go up to Perth to do some work.
  22. I once glued sand all over a guitar. that thing hurt my arm. so I removed it and wrapped it in aluminum foil. looked kind of cool with a black pickguard.
  23. Hey all, Ive got abit more progress done but if i had the router bits im waiting for i reckon i would have the single cut complete and be doing some work on the d/c. So i slotted and dotted both fingerboards. and decided to complete the s/c neck I was originally going to paint this guitar a solid colour but ive changed my mind. I like the grain to much in this Jarrah. I really like the way this bit of rosewood contrasts with the body!Let me know if you like the natural finish for this guitar. Fingerboard next to the body Hopefully if im not working tomorrow i will reshape a template for the d/c and rout that to the new size and cut the top of that to fit. I have the d/c neck to finish shaping the headstock and rest of the neck. I could also start the carve on the d/c if i get to it! Cheers Chad.
