More out of the box, but did you ground your conductive paint?
Also is anything in the live part of the ciruit touching the grounding paint?
-
Damn that looks sweet!

Didn't get much work done building guitars as I was bookmatching everything I could get my hands on! Loving this new bandsaw!
Great saw. Great blade. Very happy.
A few snaps from today:
Brazilian Walnut:
Spalted Sassafras:
Zebrawood:
Rimu:
There was lots lots more, but you get the drift!
Those look nice. I didn't know Sasfrass got that big. Around these parts one with a 6" diameter trunk is big.

Does the guitar otherwise work or is all that you get is the hum?
-
Both maybe?

I have an RSB Deluxe just like the catolouge picture on the left. If you need to verify any measurments, just let me know. I am away from my bass untill Wednesday and would have to bring my metric measuring stuff back from here.

May the demon of zircote and its evil henchman gravity be cast into the firy pit from which no wood returns excpet as ash. Or zircote may you end up as a 2X4 in in the bathroom wall of a flatualnt family. Just trying some curses.
This truly sucks but I am sure you have the skill and patiance needed to make it right.

Is it real Subaru paint? As the happy owner of an Sti, I can say that the paint is a week point. It scratches on a windy day.

Looking good. Best of luck.

So far all I have done is repairs and restore work, no builds. When working on a project, I use an old printers type tray to orginize parts (particularly electronics). That way they are available but orginized. Also that way I could justify buying the tray which I got because I thought it was cool.

With 90 seconds you could even do a swirl.

If you think about it, the strings and the neck remain in more or less parralel planes in either case. The neck angle relative to the strings is the same. The neck angle does allow you to have your hands closer to your body. For some this may result in cleaner playing which could allow for a lower action

He was great to deal with the one time I bought some materials from him.

Almost all of the violin family uses "soft" maple. This includes the upright bass which is under a lot more tension than a guitar. I would rather buy a piece of wood that I can look at than mail order any day.
-
Its going to be messy. That stuff stains anything.

As a player who uses a bow on an upright bass, I have to wish that you left the Penembuco for bows. Its getting rare and their are lots of good neck woods. That said it looks like an interesting guitar.

I would be concerned with things working loose and becoming dangerous. I know that is possible with conventional tools, but it is easier to detect. Failure in wood can be much more sudden. Also, the weight of the metal provides stability and absorbs vibrations. You still have to admire the thought and effort that went into these though.

I used to love Rotosounds on my bass but found that I broke them to often for the wallet. So I am not so sure that they have any advantage in strength.
-
So Restoration, you want someone else to use as a guinia pig so you can figure out how to stop your guitars from slamming into the ground?
-
Hmm a bit surprised you say it is oak. All the thru-neck Matt's I have seen specs for say maple. The wings vary. Yours looks like the sycamore on my TS350. I don't know how sycamore smells though.
-
Dan claims that hte advantage to his is that it makes difference if the guitar is in the playing postition. I don't buy it.

MY APII RSB Deluxe has beeen my main bass for 29 years. This is a very worthy project.

use guitar picks for inlay, cheap and they come in lots of different colors.

I modded an inexpensive Strat copy by putting a fairly hot HB in the bridge. I used a push pull pot to coil cut it to to single coil mode. It lives most of its life as a single coil and gets switched for leads when needed. Just a note, depending on the guitar, if I were goind to do it again I would use a mini switch rather than the push pull pot. The plastic pick gaurd on mine is fairly flexible and when I pull on the pot it distorts making it harder to pull.

That just looks spectacular.
