  1. I dislike all kinds of bindings (especially the PVC ones). Even though I am trying to make triangle inlays for my present project, i dislike big position markers too. Here is my problem: I'd like to remove the mega-annoying bindings on this guitar's neck: The triangle markers are bloody annoying too. I'd like to replace them with dots. Do I need a new fingerboard or is there a way to fix things without the need of replacing the present one? PS: By the way, this guitar is a mint condition Ibanez and is for sale. Buy it before I start ruining it
  2. Not yet. But your tips helped me alot. I will order MOP and some crowning files as soon as possible. Thank you.
  3. Rendisha, thanks man, you've been in great help. Zvezda or Partizan?
  4. I saw a tool that looked pretty much like those little routers by Dremel. Actually it was ezactly the same thing. It was quite compact, still looked solid and durable. It was in a special case with a set of about 80-100 bits and other attachments. I forgot the brand name but I remember that the salesman told me it was a Dutch brand. He showed me a printed catalogue of the brand and it looked like of a trusty company. They make drills, machine saws, etc. Do you know a power tools manufacturer from Holland that makes Dremel-like tools? I really need to know the brand name, so I could check their products' characteristics online. I think I will recognize the brand name if you guess it right. Thanks guys!
  5. Rendisha, hvala, batko I will give StewMac a try. Hope they ship the goods immediately after they've been oredered because I don't want to wait forever
  6. Idiots do exist. The world is full of them and every single one of them begs to get punished by pissed off Drummer Dudes I hope All the way to peoria gets his money back. Offtopic: I am not a real drummer, I've never even played a beat (excluding several MIDI tracks in Cubase SX) Edited for Language/Profanity
  7. I'd be more stubborn and I'd be calling this guy like 5 times a day. If this doesn't help, I'd beat the guy up and claim my cash back. When you're dealing with assholes, you have to act like one yourself. Otherwise, assholes would ruin your day and (in your case) steal your money. My advice is to beat him up - this solves all kinds of intra-personal problems. Your other choice is to threaten the guy with the police. You may also call the coppers for real but they are somekind of a bigger trouble themselves. I am sorry that I don't live close to where you are. I would solve the situation quite easily. Good luck and remember: you have to be an asshole or you will lose this little battle of yours.
  8. You need to tell your frien to stop telling you lies!!! The process you are talking about is to mix the clear, you take the poly clear and mix the hardener(catalyst) for it to cure. The flakes are actualy metal, pearl, micca particles added to the clear and in some cases you need a stirrer bowl to keep the flakes at a consistent level while you are spraying, because they tend to fall to the bottom of the can if you take too long to shot. This is common knowledge on Car PAinters, so I don't know what kind of car painter your friend is. http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/howto/...ake/index2.html show this link to your friend, maybe he needs to learn a little bit. ← Well, actually he showed me some samples and he told me that all he used on them was paint and that liqud that looks like mercury. I don't think he's lying. Can't see the point - I have grown toghether with that guy and I know that he never lies. But I'm just too lame in the world of painting, maybe I've misunderstood some part of the whole stuff...
  9. I am not a professional but I like the metal flake effect so I asked some friends of mine about how they do it. They, of course, are into car painting. They mix acryllic automotive paint with another liquid and that's all. Maybe this is just one way to go but it doesn't involve any hard parts or real metal flakes. Just this liquid that does the effect. I believe that the mixture could be used with a spray can too because it's just liquid and there are no hard pieces in it. Hope that there are companies that produce such spray cans.
  10. Thanks man, this helped me a lot learn and find such finish. Have a look at this BEAUTY: Imagine it was your guitar in cherry red
  11. You don't sound rude. I suppose you just didn't read my previous post. No one ships anything to Bulgaria, because of the high percentage of fraudilent "hacker" orders. I am using an internationally recognized MasterCard-Maestro debit card (one of those that hold your own money, not loaned ones like credit cards do) and still no online store cares to accept it and ship the goods to Bulgaria. That's all. I've tried everything but online traders simply do not deal with suspicious East European countries. The pikguard idea is good but I need something that looks like mother of pearl all the way through the material. 67gretsch, thanks, my grandma has some ivory at home herself but I don't think it looks good for fingerboard triangle markers.
  12. So, where do you get your mother of pearl from, guys? As I mentioned, I have no ability to order from online stores or auctions like e-bay. What kinds of stores offer mother of pearl or its substitutes?
  13. They don't have distributors in Bulgaria (not surprised ) I could order it for you and send it to you if you pay for it... I live in Germany. Last resort though. Cannot believe there is no mother of pearl to be had in Bulgaria... But I think PayPal should work if you don't pay with credit cards. ← Mr.Churchyard, there sure is mother of pearl in Bulgaria, but I don't know where to get it from. Actually my question should be: what kinds of stores offer mother of pearl? Groceries? Pharmacies? OK, bad joke, still, good question... PayPal does not work with Bulgarian residents (not surprised N2 ) Thank you for your offer, man. I may order some natural mother of pearl in near future. I hope you will be that kind again to help me.
  14. That's exactly what happened with those plastic buttons I used on my previous project - when I sanded them to the level of the fretboard, they lost their cover layer and it was the thing that holded the mother of pearl effect. Now it's gone and they look just transparent. I will try to find that Corian material but we import stuff mostly from Greece and Greek stuff is crap. No one ships stuff to my country because we are not yet members of the EU and traders are afraid of fraudulent credit card orders and stuff. I live in Bulgaria, by the way. Thanks, man.
  15. I will try to find that Formica stuff. I read about it and it appeared to be a brand name. I doubt that they import it where I live, but still, I will search for it. I have seen a synthetic material that emulates mother of pearl on pocket knife handles. I'll try to find such a knife and ruin it in the name of guitar building. Thanks guys!
  16. I want to make some cool position marking inlays for my project's fingerboard (triangles or other "heavy metal" shapes) I can't get mother of pearl where I am and I can't order stuff online. I am looking for materials that can emulate the look of mother of pearl. Are there any of those or eventually how could I make my own? Out of what? I used plastic buttons that emulate mother of pearl on my previous project (dot inlays). But now I need bigger pieces of similar material for the triangles. Anyone with an idea? Thanks guys!
  17. OK, I know several guys that are doing car painting. I asked them about that very interesting metallic effect I saw on a fancy car (maybe it was the local pimp's car, or at least it looked like it was) and one of them showed me how he mixes the different substances to achieve the effect. So, the finished stuff looks like there are rather big shiny flakes inside the paint pointing in all directions. In other words, the metallic looking parts in the paint are flat and big. They don't look like small grains but like shredded shiny sheets of metal. I like this effect very much. It's cool looking and you can tell that it's a metallic finish from a mile while most of the ordinary metallic finishes I have seen requred a close look and (eventually) a magnifying glass It would look cool on stage because even that guy at the last row with the coke bottle glasses would notice and admire your metallic finish. I would like to know if anyone has done such finish. Pics are much appreciated (even if they are not of your own work) Thanks guys!
  18. Matt, people put down others achievements out of spiteful human nature, but screw them. See, I've never "put down" Matt's achievement out of my "spiteful human nature". Actually I enjoy his project a lot. What I was saying was that pink colour and evil pointy guitars just do not go hand in hand. Lollipops are another story. And you are right, I didn't know that it was a transparent finish over a pink piece of wood. Still, it doesn't change the pink colour. I can see it. It's pink. EDIT: PS: Yeah, Chuck Billy ain't a guitarist but actually that's the exact reason why you should have taught him a thing or two about guitar building (including the purpleheart part ) Or maybe it is better that you leave this to Alex Skolnick... Actually what happened to your interview and may I read it somewhere on the net? And wasn't Steve Sousa their original vocalist? Bay area thrash rules 24/7. Peace.
  19. Southpa, you are right, the can started spitting big drops after some use (it was at the very beginning - the can was almost full to the top). But when I discovered what was causing the annoying spitting, it was too late and everything was already messed up. When the can starts spitting, you have to turn the nozzle clockwise or couter-clockwise (it really desn't matter) and continue spraying without spitting. This worked for my spray can (a Greek piece of utter junk, I should't have bought a Greek product and I will never do it again) Shaking the can only helps you keep the paint well mixed. I asked several guys that are into car painting about spray cans and every single one of them laughed hard in my face.
  20. Thank you for your reply, Gorecki! Yes, I sprayed it with way too many layers of paint I used a whole spray can for just one body and neck and I suppose that I will have to wait forever untill the paint is cured and ready for sanding. I will sand the bumps down but I am afraid that I could over-sand the good layer and the wood would pop out under it Isn't grit 600 too coarse? I'm so afraid of ruining the stuff... I don't want to apply any new layers over the sanded ones. PS: Some people claim that acrylic paint cures very fast but in my case the layers are to thick, so I believe I will have to wait a month or two before it's redy for sanding. What do you think?
  21. OK, I used an acrylic paint from a spray can. Jet black colour. The result was horrible - lots of bumps (paint drops) and a fair amount of tear drops and splatter. How to remove the messed up paint? It's thicker than the good layer, of course. Should I sand the bumps down? What number should the sanding paper be? How long should I wait until the paint is cured enough to be sandable? And can I polish the painted body and neck using sanding paper only? I would like to skip the buffing wheel part. Thanks dudes!
  22. bluespresence, ok - I will try to avoid profanity as much as I can. I really do have some issues with curses and swearing, so I believe I need some specialized Thumbs up
  23. Thank you for your reply, AlGeeEater. Yeah, I've seen it on cars only. You apply it on the surface. Then wait for like 30-40 minutes for it to dry very well. Then you just wipe it off with a cloth and the result is mirror glare. Didn't know that there's such thing especially made to be used on guitars. So, does it wear off or is it hard as a rock and indestructible?
  24. OK, I don't know how it's called in English. I believe it's somekind of an artificial wax. You apply it on the already painted and laquered surface. Then you rub with a cloth and the substance adds mirror shine to the surface. I have seen it being used on automobiles. Is it ok to use such thing on already finished guitars? Does it easily wear off? And what's it's name, *******EDITED******? Thanks guys!
