  1. it's also much much much faster to change (a) string(s) with locking tuners. Post 300 Devon
  2. It depends quite a bit on how thin you want the neck, and how rigid. Some people have said they like to feel the vibration in the neck, and you just don't with carbon fiber rods. That can possibly be a plus side, so it's really just personal taste. The Hard maple neck should be stable enough for a normal sized (maybe even a thin) neck, although it won't be quite as stable as carbon fiber reinforced necks (duh ). Devon
  3. I just like the look of bookmatched wood over 1 piece tops. Devon
  4. Stew Mac IS a great company for customer service and quality, but you pay for that with higher prices. Then again, you might buy inferior products from a different place and have tons of screw ups like that. Devon
  5. Can you use a drawknife? I noticed that the only thing StewMac sells is a drawknife. My dad has a really old one and I was using it yesterday, and it seems to work really well. His spokeshave must need to be tuned, though, because all it does is chatter. It WON'T cut. I really do like the drawknife though. Devon
  6. I was wondering about the clear lacquer in the rattle cans too...I saw some at Lowes, but I couldn't figure out what it's base was. Devon
  7. Somebody let me know how they are when you get 'em in. Devon
  8. I'm not filling a cavity, it's a crack where the heat gun shrunk the wood joing a little bit. Not a very big gap, but plenty enough to screw up a good finish. Devon
  9. www.stewmac.com should have everything you'll need. Devon
  10. I guess what I meant was "what exactly is lacquer as opposed to polyurethane, or other finish types?" Devon
  11. What is a filler I could use to match (or at least get close to) the surrounding wood, that will work with nitro? Thanks
  12. I might can get the scroll-saw idea to work, but I don't know many people with laser cutters
  13. That would involve more routing. It sounds like he's trying to keep everything looking stock. Devon
  14. Like I said, it should be strong enough . Anyone want to explain exactly how to do a volute? I'm in the same situation as Rones, and I might be interested in doing a volute. I might try to get another neck (at least a regular neck if I can't get another neck thru) out of the same piece. Devon
  15. Actually, how would I go about making one? That just occured to me . Smart one here. Would I use close to the same method as used on the body? Devon
  16. Those measurements look about right. 14" is a little bit wide, though. There is no set-in-stone measurement, but that's acceptable. Bandsaw is best if you have access. Devon
  17. I'm guessing that was from before my day? Devon
  18. I'll start a thread as soon as I get the stuff together. Devon
  19. Guitar...I already have the purpleheart, but thanks for the offer. Jigsaw it is Devon
  20. What about a jigsaw? I'll get my brother to ask around at school and see if I can use some equipment there. He (my brother) works at a furniture building place, but something about insurance makes me not be able to use their machines. Hardware opinions, please. Devon
  21. Will two part epoxy take finish without a primer? I wanna use nitro translucent on one of my guitars, and there's a bit of a gap I need to fill. Devon
  22. Is it possible to cut a body out with a router? Would a jigsaw work better? My biggest problem is going to be rough cutting the shape of the neck without a bandsaw . I might try to find somebody that has one, but does anyone have other ideas? I'm gonna have to cut the angled headstock out too. The wood selection is goona be purpleheart neck, with purpleheart top/mahogany bottom wings. Bocote fretboard/binding/pickup rings/control cavity(ies). Should I go with chrome or gold hardware? Approx. wood choice
